- It’s more of a Framber Valdez thing, but last night marked the first time ever the Astros wore their blue softball tops in a World Series game (from Texas Trev). Throughout this year’s ALDS and ALCS, the Astros wore those tops when Valdez pitched.
- Interesting: The Astros Martin Maldonado used an “illegal” bat in the World Series (from Texas Trev). Here’s more on that.

- Odd/Unusual NFL Unis Today/Tomorrow:
- For today’s London game, as you’re no doubt aware, the Broncos will be wearing their blue pants with their white jerseys for the first time ever; the Jaguars will counter by going mono-black.
- The Bears and Cowboys will be going color vs. color. Yesterday’s lede looked at other color vs. color matchups in the modern era.
- The New York Jets will be debuting their new black alternate helmet, which they’re pairing with their mono-black uniform, against the Patriots.
- Monday is Hallowe’en, and the Bengals will go orange/white/black vs. the Browns in orange/brown/orange. It would have looked ugly — but very holiday-appropriate — for the Bengals to have gone orange/orange/black.

College
- “I was watching Ohio State at Penn State and it got me thinking about goalposts,” writes Andrew Cosentino. “Penn State has white goalposts, which I‘ve never liked. I feel like they blend into the crowd way too much. Yellow just always feels like the default color. How many teams have white goalposts? Do teams have any colors besides yellow or white? … Tennessee also has white goalposts, whereas LSU has white “H” goalposts.”
Hockey
NHL
- The Seattle Kraken will be releasing an alternate jersey for the 2023-24 season. Interesting note: A team source tells me “there’s a reason why the Metropolitans weren’t used for the Reverse Retro” but no confirmation yet that it going to be based on that. (From Brian). Could that mean…this (but in Kraken colors)?
- Speaking of RR, on Saturday morning, the Buffalo Sabres broke out their white pants and gloves, which they’ll pair with their new RR sweater. (From Patrick McQuillen)
- The Buffalo Sabres look to be partnering with the company Legends to find a corporate advertiser for their jersey ad. The hed for that article is particularly distressing/depressing.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs were scheduled to wear their black, Justin Bieber-inspired sweaters on the road for the first time last evening.
- When you change uniforms often, your playoff banners almost look like they were for different teams. Looking at you, Buffalo. (From Steve Sher)

I never noticed the white goalposts at State College. That could be rough during a whiteout.
I prefer yellow, but even better, I wish they’d bring back striped goalposts. I know that was a thing in the CFL. Maybe it was in college football too?
They have been around long before the white out. I never had trouble with them, but I never had to placekick into a white clad crowd either.
By the way, kicking field goals on an actual college field is pretty great. I think I liked playing broomball on NHL ice more though.
I got to kick field goals at the Akron Rubber Bowl. It was a dump, but it was a college field and yes, it was pretty great. Made my personal longest there…a feat which I’m hoping to top this year or next. I’m five yards away currently!

The school with the puck sculptor for an equipment manager is Minnesota State (,Mankato).
Re:BFBS. Black is not a color. It is the absence of color. If your school/professional teams colors do not include black, don’t wear it. I am a Vanderbilt fan, they are black and gold. (although I question their gold sometimes.) Missouri, Colorado, Texas Tech among many others should be allowed to wear any variation of black they would like. That is my rant for the day, no get off my lawn!
All NFL goal posts are sulfur yellow, and the color is applied by powder coat instead of paint, which tends to chip and fade. That change was made about 10 years ago. It was in 1966 that NFL owners mandated that all the league’s goal posts should be bright gold. That’s not universally the case at colleges and high schools, where goal posts are often white.
Is that Junior Jazz jersey from before Nike took over from Adidas, or is Adidas allowed to sponsor/outfit certain programs?
Good question. I don’t honestly know.
TBH, it does look like an old jersey
Coming late to this, but the jerseys are brand new this year. Adidas has not made them in the past, but they do now.
Sacred Heart Angels are in Hainesport, New Jersey. Googled the phrase and found their Facebook.
