In today’s ticker: will the Browns move to a white face mask permanently? not enough Messi jerseys for Argentina fans? and more!

Football

NFL

  • The New Orleans Saints will again wear their black-below-the-neck uniforms today. The NFL really needs to alter their second shell rule to let them wear their alternate black hat with that combo. Or better yet, just ditch the black pants entirely and wear gold pants with the black jersey.
  • The New York Jets will wear their green jerseys for the first time all season today against the Detroit Lions. Until last week, they hadn’t worn green jerseys or green pants all year. But they’re not just wearing green shirts: it’s going to be all green all the time. Hard to believe the Lions will be the better looking team, but sure enough.
  • In a (color) rush to see who has the worst mono-uni, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will wear their all pewter getups today. They’re trying to wrest that crown from the Lions.
  • The Los Angeles Chargers will wear their mono-royal uniforms today against the Titans.
  • And for tonight’s SNF game, the Washington Commanders will be going head-to-toe burgundy against the Giants.
  • In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s been cold, windy and snowy recently (but unfortunately no snow till near the end of the game last night) in Buffalo, so Shaq Lawson went with a very interesting jersey-over-long coat practice look. (From Mike Raymer)
  • The Steelers will wear their throwback jerseys next week when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Eve at Acrisure Stadium.
  • I wasn’t aware there was a “process” involved to change facemask colors, but apparently there is, and the Cleveland Browns — who wore white facemasks last night for the first time in 20ish years — may make the move permanent. (From Tony C)
  • Apparently there’s something missing on this NFL Network logo. (From Summo13)

College

  • For the first time in school history, Ole Miss has worn a different uniform combination in each of its games this season. To keep that trend going, what threads can it wear in the bowl game?
  • In yesterday’s NAIA national champ game on ESPN, the broadcast started with old logo on score bug but was updated mid game to new logo. (From Jay Wright)

Baseball

MLB

  • “I caught a subtle change to the Phillies ‘P’ on Taijuan Walker’s cap during his intro press conference,” writes Mike Wissman. “The top part ends in more of a hook on Wagner’s cap. The version they normally wear is a tad thicker…Not sure if this is a real change or a glitch, but it caught my eye and wanted to share.” Mike added that new Phillie Trey Turner had the correct cap at his presser.

Minors

  • Did you know that way back in 1994, the Arizona Fall League had ads on unis? Not one, but TWO ads! (From Official Rearfactory)
Hockey

NHL

Minors/Juniors

Basketball

College

Soccer

International

  • World Cup: France will be wearing its all-blue kit for the World Cup Final this morning, while Argentina is sticking with its usual home white & sky blue jersey. They’ll wear white pants and socks.
  • World Cup: adidas is having trouble keeping up with enough stock of Lionel Messi jerseys to satisfy the demand, especially since Argentina has reached the finals.
  • England: Manchester United’s home uniform will undergo major changes next season.

  • Why do players swap jerseys after football (soccer) matches? It’s actually a tradition that goes back 100 years.

LA Kings need to make the purple and gold a full time part of their uni lineup, or just rebrand. Their current home and aways and logo are outdated and frankly quite bland when compared to the chevy and crown logos. Whats old is new again, so lean into it and get on track!

I never really cared for the Kings’ rebrand in 1998 and its subsequent derivatives, especially the fonts and the current “home plate” banner logo. I would really appreciate a change as well.

Many of us on board with Kings return to the purple and yellow. The successes of the 2 RR uniforms have put the foot in the door for serious consideration to return to their original colours when the feeling previously had been this would not be something the team would consider.

The current Kings uniform and logo in serious need of redesign. The striping fad of their current uniform design has passed. The logo with the “LA” font has never been good.

The Kings have two good designs to use: the Gretzky-era uniforms, and the 1977 solid purples. Everything else is a compromise.

That NFL Network logo looks like something you’d find on cheap knock-off items at places like Wish dot com or Ali Express. I really hope they’re not planning on making that their full-time logo.

Remember how every team’s gumball helmet looked great with the white facemasks? Hopefully the Browns going back to that look will start a trend!

“So this happened during the Jets vs. Canucks game (last) night!”

Was it a primary jersey with the Orca logo? A message being sent that the fans want the Canucks to dump the Orca. Or maybe just getting really unimpressed with the lack of the team’s effort on a consistent basis.

Or just someone that visited the beer vendor too often and threw his sweater on the ice because he was too drunk to climb over the glass himself.

And then there is non-color vs. non-color, which really needs to cease to exist.

Black vs dark gray, I agree.

Black vs light gray, like yesterday’s Rice vs Southern Miss game, I’m on board.
For football I’ll take bone/cream/dishwater/light gray over white jerseys. You’re not supposed to look so bleached white clean when you’re playing!
