  • Why did home teams in the NBA (originally) wear white uniforms? The answer is probably what you were already thinking.

  • How did a junior hockey team in Ushuaia, Argentina end up with jerseys from Juneau, Alaska? Ushuaia got a rink recently, and there was no hockey store in town, so Val Martinez, who is originally from Ushuaia but now lives in Juneau, went to visit her family in Ushuaia and she brought down a whole bag of used hockey gear from Play It Again Sports in Juneau. • WHL’s Swift Current Broncos wore special New Year’s Eve unis last night. Wade Heidt says. “Strange. Wearing the colours of rival Brandon Wheat Kings instead of usual blue and green.”

  • Fun Fact about Roberto Clemente: Clemente’s original number with the Pirates was 13, but early in the season he switched to 21 … It is reported that Clemente chose the number because his full name, Roberto Clemente Walker, has 21 letters. (From Texas Trev)

Happy New year. What’s maddening about the Lions is that they have the throwback uniform set that they could have worn on Thanksgiving but instead thought all grey was a better choice. Let’s hope they go through with the 90s style/throwback efforts they mentioned.

The Lions unis in the 80s were perfection.
Canada should never wear any colours but red and white. Kids these days…

Correction for the ticker: actually Roberto Clemente’s full name is Roberto Enrique Clemente Walker, according to Wikipedia. Apparently in some Spanish name the maternal familial name will be added after the surname.

The Christopher Nolan Batman movies were shot in Pittsburgh and Chicago. In the last movie, Hines Ward had a cameo, so black and gold it was.

Thought the same thing. Love the blue face mask and white stripe on the helmet but the modern numbers are unnecessary, especially if the Lions were to move toward a more classic look.

I think the Seahawks may be sending a subtle message as to their second helmet choice next year. Get used to Navy/navy/grey being Silver/royal blue/silver…one can hope…

The other thing the Seahawks need to do is a 1961 Broncos-like burning of all the neon green they have in inventory.

Until the Lions lose bubbles the lion on the helmet and pick a different shade of blue (what does Honolulu have to do with Detroit anyway?), those unis will be a dumpster fire. Losing the WCF decal is a huge step in the right direction. Never sure why there was a permanent memorial patch to an owner whose tenure was synonymous with losing. And more losing. And still more losing.

The best Lions unis were the ones with the numbers rendered with material that sparkled and was the traditional blue and silver colors. They were special.
