  • Reader Jonah Reed noticed that Thunder SG Aaron Wiggins cuffs the bottom of the left leg of his shorts. Jonah says he thinks Wiggins may have been doing this for a “little while.”

College

  • Indiana’s teams are among those that wore alternate uniforms for Black History Month, doing so last week. (From Kary Klismet)

NHL

  • We mentioned yesterday that the Sharks retired No. 12 on Saturday for Patrick Marleau. Reader Jonathan Goupil noticed that the participants in an alumni game last week wore a different patch than the team actually did on Saturday.

Minors/Juniors

  • Reader Scott Towery sent us the jerseys of the 1966-67 Oklahoma City Blazers, who played as a Bruins affiliate in the minor Central Professional Hockey League.
  • The WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers wore their winner of the CHL’s “Your Team Your Jersey” contest on Saturday. (From Wade Heidt)

More

  • The PHF’s Metropolitan Riveters brought back last year’s alternate jerseys with a Black Rosie the Riveter logo on Friday for Black History Month.
  • The PHF’s Connecticut Whale wore Pride uniforms yesterday.
Soccer

USA

  • In MLS, Atlanta United midfielder Thiago Almada celebrated a goal yesterday by revealing an undershirt saying “Fuerte Apache,” the nickname of the Buenos Aires neighborhood he grew up in. The moment has already been turned into an advertisement. The team also wore memorial armbands for Anton Walkes, the former Atlanta center-back who moved to Charlotte FC and died in a boating accident over the offseason. (From Michael Rich)
  • Reprinted from yesterday’s Ticker comments: MLS’s Nashville SC wore their new second shirt at home on Saturday. (From Brian Henke)
  • Two new shirts for the USL Championship’s Loudoun United.

International

  • Australia: The A-Leagues held their pride weekend this weekend. Some teams wore rainbow numbers and NOBs and the Perth Glory women’s team added rainbow socks.
  • England: Multiple men’s teams wore warm-up shirts supporting the charity Her Game Too on Saturday, including Birmingham City, Leeds United, Southampton, and nonleague St. Albans City. The charity works to bring awareness to and prevent sexist behavior in sports, especially among fans.
  • England: Newcastle United goalie Loris Karius played in yesterday’s men’s League Cup final wearing a pair of vintage-looking “leather” gloves. Karius only played because starter Nick Pope was red-card suspended and backup Martin Dúbravka was cup-tied — that is, he was ineligible because he’d already appeared for another team in the same competition this season. That team was Newcastle’s opponents Manchester United, leading to speculation that Dúbravka could actually receive a winner’s medal after Man U’s win. (From Kary Klismet)
  • England: Speaking of Manchester United goalies, David de Gea was given a No. 181 jersey to commemorate his record-breaking 181st clean sheet. (Thanks, Anthony)
  • England: Hereford, in the men’s sixth tier, wore black armbands yesterday in memory of commentator John Motson. One reason why? Hereford’s predecessors Hereford United pulled off one of the most famous upsets in the men’s FA Cup in a 1971-72 third-round replay against Newcastle United, which a young Motson commentated on for the BBC’s Match of the Day. (From Brian Henke)
  • Japan: Teams in the men’s J.League used to participate in the primarily Asian quirk of wearing front numbers, which is otherwise usually restricted to national teams. Apparently none are doing so domestically this season for the first time in the league’s 30 years. However, front numbers are still required for Asian club competitions, like the men’s AFC Champions League, barring an update to their equipment regulations. (From Jeremy Brahm)
  • Scotland: Rivals Hibernian and Heart of Midlothian’s women’s teams played each other yesterday. Both participated in memorial gestures for Hibs chairman Ron Gordon by wearing warm-up shirts and black armbands. They also both supported Football v. Homophobia Scotland‘s month of action.
  • Turkey: The men’s Süper Lig resumed this weekend after the earthquakes affecting the country and Syria. Beşiktaş fans threw stuffed animals onto the pitch for children affected by the quakes, much like teddy bear tosses in ice hockey.

  • Australian Football League club Sydney has participated in the city’s Mardi Gras parade, which is also a very large pride parade, for several years. This time they sent players and others in full uniform with both of their teams’ pride designs.
  • The mascot for the upcoming World Judo Championships in Doha was revealed recently. (From Kary Klismet)
  • The electronics company Nokia has a new logo for the first time since the ’60s. (From Tim Dunn)

I noticed that too. My bet is they had dead stock laying around and that was the cheapest option rather than getting Adidas to make current versions, or versions of the original Sharks sweaters, both of which would’ve been more appropriate.

I don’t hate the new Loudoun United kits, especially that home with the patterned hoops, but my goodness I miss their old matching home-and-road reversed sash kits. They wore the sash look for, I believe, three seasons. Here’s the home: link The road was a color reversal, with all the white bits turned red, and red bits turned white.

Did anyone else notice the Twins logo in the preseason game yesterday? For the first few innings, NBC Sports Philadelphia used the old logo on the score bug, then around the 5th inning, they updated it to the new one.

Please tell I’m not the only one who loved to see an A’s and a Warriors uniform with no corporate logos on them!

Also, have you ever seen 2 different patches for the same event before?

Marleau (previous link) versus players during the game (this) :
    link

Looks like they had a patch for the ‘Marleau week’ and a different one for the ‘Marleau night’….

    3-D batting helmet logos…yawn (with mild blech-factor).
Proof that just because you CAN do something, doesn’t mean you should….

Not a fan of the Nokia change. Old one was simple but solid, like the phone. This one has pieces missing, not a good omen.
