  • Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki’s latest email newsletter says the Phils will not wear green for St. Paddy’s Day this year because of Nike’s “four plus one” rule. He also says the team’s City Connect uni will make its on-field debut in 2024 but might be unveiled sometime this year. (From Shawn Sweeney)
  • White Sox OF Luis Robert is going JrOB this season. (From Aaron Telecky)
  • The D-backs’ sleeve ad, which was originally presented as a massive square patch, has apparently been trimmed to match the shape of the logo, although it’s still plenty prominent. The full square is still appearing on the team’s spring training jerseys, at least for now. (From @DbacksStatsInfo)
  • Back in 2010, I wrote an ESPN article about baseball artist/designer Joe Petruccio, who among other things designed the Mets’ “racing stripe” uniforms in the 1980s. Here’s a good new article about him. (From Kary Klismet)
  • Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins’s hometown of Chatham-Kent, Ontario, plans to honor him with a statue.
  • Whoa, check out the amazing socks worn by the 1973 Twins’ wives’ softball team.

    File under International soccer:

    – Premier League players wore black armbandsat last weekend’s games in memory of Ghanaian international and former Everton player Christian Atsa, who was found dead after the earthquake that struck Turkiye and Syria.

    – Real Madrid wore black armbands in their Champions League match at Liverpool in memory of Amancio Amaro, a Real player from 1962-76 and a club honorary chairman.

That interactive NFL map is not my creation at all. A member of the 506 Sports community, which specializes in NFL TV coverage maps, whipped it up based on the station list in the catalog. It even includes the (apparent) catalog error where a Cleveland station wasn’t included in the Browns market.

Can’t wait to see the Seahawks throwbacks. But, with the jersey cuts these days, it will be interesting to see how they handle the sleeve stripes. Those are still the “Seahawks” uniforms to me.

¨The Seahawks had wore the classic silver helmet and teal jersey since their debut season in 1976 all the way until 2001.¨
    Teal? Really? Sigh.
If they go with the pre-´83 look the sleeve stripes ´could´ be a problem since the TV numbers were right above them…if they go with the ´83-´01 design (which I prefer…loved those blue facemasks), the hawk-head striping should easily fit since the TV numbers were located topside.

Agreed, but many (most?) teams have eschewed wearing green jerseys for St. Paddy’s Day — and everyone will be forced into wearing those caps (link), so there will still be a merch angle to the “holiday.”

That being said, I think it’s a bullshit excuse — I’m 99.9% positive teams can introduce a “limited use” (5 or less games a season) jersey without the usual 18-month lead time, and … at least before this 4+1 rule was enacted … those didn’t count towards a teams’ total number of alts. Even so, it’s a friggin Spring Training game…who cares if they want to wear a green jersey for the day? If they want to enforce 4+1 in season, that’s fine…but c’mon it’s Spring Training!

And minor league teams have a million single-use, theme night jerseys that go to auction. I don’t think Nike’s sweatshop will collapse by whipping up a bunch of plain green jerseys and stitching on the team’s existing wordmarks and numbers.

What I want to know re: the D-Backs is which of their jersey’s got the boot with 4+1? Is the white/teal now the primary home jersey, or do they have 2 whites and ditched the grey or one of the alts?

Regarding the Diamondbacks’ ad patch, Chris Creamer did a side-by-side post on Twitter last night, and the logo appears to be bigger, since the patches appear to be the same (maximum allowed) height. What an “improvement”, right?

Irvington HS´s 1985 and 1986 girls basketball championship teams included one Dana Owens…aka: Queen Latifah.
