- Former Reds P Tom Browning died Monday. Yesterday we reported how he once joined fans on a rooftop across from Wrigley Field in full uniform. In yet another uni-related story, Browning once drove his pregnant wife, who was in labor, to the hospital while wearing his uniform during Game Two of the 1990 World Series. (From @texastrevor)

- On Tuesday, we reported the Vikings were going to go mono-white against the Giants this week. But the Giants tweeted way back in August that they would be wearing white during that game too. Obviously, the Giants will wear blue. That’s the second mistake in their published uni schedule, which also said they’d be wearing blue in Dallas on Thanksgiving. The Cowboys wore their blue throwbacks that day, so the Giants actually wore white. (From Matthew Brooks)

Regarding Dyami Brown and 2 mouthpieces…I’ve noticed more and more players keeping a “spare” mouthpiece tucked in one of their many helmet vents during gameplay. The guy that sticks out to me is UGA TE, Darnell Washington. Not sure if it’s a fashion thing? Brown having 2 attached to the facemask for his choosing is a new one though.
With lip guards being so prevalent now, almost a mainstay for any position player, we’ve seen tons of artwork, logos and such being put there. There’s even the pacifier one that guys like DK Metcalf wear. Why any grown man would want to mimic wearing a pacifier is beyond me but here we are.
Might be worth doing a piece on mouthpieces across the leagues. Steph Curry started his chewing on a mouthpiece trend….enough that video games include it now. A lot of MLB players use that plate thing. I can recall Ryan Howard chewing on his a lot as a Phillie. And now across football, the lip guard is a fashion statement.
What exactly is the point of a “lip guard”? I’ve never heard of a player getting hit beneath his facemask where that would be required.
Also, all season Stefon Diggs has been wearing his mouth/lip guard dangling from his helmet. I don’t believe he is wearing a second mouthguard. I’m guessing also for “fashion” though I’m not so sure what’s fashionable about it. One game he had it yanked off. Not sure why a player would want anything additional that could be grabbed. UNLESS, if it’s grabbed it increases the chances of being mistaken for a facemask penalty, in which case it might be a brilliant move.
Since the Vikings kinda came up with the white-out gimmick at the last minute, I do not find fault with the staff at the Giants uniform guide.

Due to Franco Harris’s death, there are Immaculate Reception replays and stories abounding across the internet. I clicked a YouTube link of the play and holy cow, look at that nameplate for John B A N A S Z A K on the Raiders:
