‘Football x Football’ — World Cup Nations Depicted as Football Helmets

With the World Cup Soccer (Football) Tournament now about half way through competition, I have a fun project from graphic designer Jonah Ward to share with you today. Jonah has shared concepts with us before, when he resurrected several NFL defunct franchises, and he’ll have more designs related to the NFL to share with us shortly.

But today, in spirit of the World Cup, Jonah — also known as Dubya Design — has decided to combine both the World’s Football and American Football. In this concept, all 32 of the nation participants of the World Cup have had their on-field kits translated into an American Football helmet. Jonah was inspired to do the project because he hopes to one day see American Football on the global stage, this could show how each country could look on the gridiron, but with a World Cup spin.

For the concept, Jonah did not modify any of the logos, flags, or crests from what they wear in real life, he also strictly stuck to the looks they wear on the field. Those were the main premises of the project as it helped maintain the World Cup theme.

Denmark, and their kit manufacturer, are protesting the human rights record of Qatar and the migrant workers that died. More details here – link

Fun, but really whet my appetite to see the jerseys. Wondering if it would include checkerboard or vertical striped jerseys for and .

Really great work. The designs look magnificent on the helmets. The Socceroos (Australia) wear the actual Australian Coat of Arms on their shirts. The crest you have shown is the retail version as it is not permitted to sell anything with the official coat of arms. But the crest you have used on the helmet looks brilliant.

These helmets look very cool indeed. But because of the popularity of the sport being played at the World Cup right now the football game using a helmet will never grow anywhere near as big. But we can always dream.

These are suh-weet! If these were real, I might have to become a fan of Australia, Cameroon, Senegal, and Wales.

On balance, I like these. I would have liked to see a head-on front view because a lot of these helmets need some sort of middle striping. Argentina with a sky blue-white-sky-blue stripe, with or without the Sun of May, would look amazing.
Not entirely sold on some of these – Brazil without a yellow lid is questionable, as is Ecuador; Poland in a 2-tone white over red would work. I guess a lot of these can’t be judged without jerseys/pants to see how all the pieces fit.
