Tucker: 2005–2017

Paul here, popping in from my August break to report the sad news that Uni Watch boy mascot Tucker (shown above with the 16-letter nameplate for A’s prospect Eric Stuckenschneider, which would have set the record for the longest MLB NOB if he’d made it to the bigs) died yesterday. He’d been sick for the previous week with a problem that was difficult to diagnose. After several vet visits and tests, it turned out to be a neurological problem, and yesterday I decided he’d suffered enough. He was 12 years old.

Tucker was as awesome a cat as I’ve ever had — super-friendly, super-sweet, with a big purr and an even bigger heart. Nicest guy ever, really. Uni Watch HQ already feels so much emptier without him. His sister, Uni Watch girl mascot Caitlin (who’d spent every single day of her existence with Tucker, even going back to their mother’s womb!), can tell something’s wrong. How do I explain to her that her buddy won’t be coming home?

We’ll be closed today. Back tomorrow. Thanks for understanding. — Paul

My condolences to you for the loss of your family feline member. Tucker did indeed sound like a “cool cat”.

Sincerest condolences, Paul. Folks without pets sometimes don’t “get it” that pets truly are family. I had a similar situation with our 12 year old black lab last month. You know the day is eventually coming that you’ll be faced with this, but it doesn’t make it any easier.

Sorry for your loss, Paul. I just lost my Xander, who looked exactly like Tucker let Wednesday.

Sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed seeing what Tucker and Caitlin were up to in your posts.

I want to wish sincere condolences. Tucker sounded a lot like my best cat, Lemon, whom I lost in 2011. Hope Caitlin doesn’t suffer a “broken heart.”

Sorry to hear about Tucker. Had to say goodbye to our family pet this spring; Buddy our pug. Never easy. Hang in there.

I am so sorry Paul. It’s so hard to lose a pet.
    Condolences to you and yours

As a loving pet owner as well, I dread the day I have to make that decision. Ugh. My condolences..

Sorry for your loss Paul. May Tucker’s memory be eternal. I hear there is an infinite catnip buffet where he is now. Hope Caitlin is doing OK without her litter mate and life companion.

I can only echo others by saying how sorry I am. This is an emotional blow; and, if my own experience is any guide, it takes some time to deal with. All you can do to ease the pain somewhat is to reflect on the pleasant and comfortable life that you gave the dear little guy.

I’ve got 9 kittens, want one? Lol. I just lost my 2 year old kitty two days ago. Found him ran over. I’m 35, had pets my whole life and that was the first time discovering a pet dead. I didn’t handle it well.

Makes you realize how much joy these guys bring you that going in knowing you will lose them, you still do it.

I have 15 cats right now, but I need to name that dang baseball team litter.

So sorry to hear about Tucker. Sounds like he was an amazing cat who lived an amazing life. Extra snuggles for Caitlin during this sad time.

Paul, my heartfelt condolences to you and Caitlin on your loss. My girlfriend lost her cat of 16 years recently, so I know how difficult this can be. I wish for comfort and healing for both of you in your time of need.

I’m very sorry for your loss, Paul. You can, I hope, take comfort in knowing that you gave Tucker a great life.

So sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences to you and anyone else who will feel Tucker’s absence.

The loss of a pet is sad. As sad as can be. I’m sorry for you, Caitlin, and of course, Tucker.

Paul, My condolences on the loss of Tucker. Pets do become part of the family. Losing one sucks. You and Caitlin keep your heads up.

Sorry to hear this. Best to you and the people in your circle who knew Tucker.

Sorry to learn of Tucker’s passing. No doubt his 12 years were filled with fun and joy being your good kitty.

Sorry to hear the news Paul. The Uniwatch family will miss hearing about Tucker. Take as much time as you need, and we’ll wait for you.

So sorry to hear the sad news about Tucker. All anyone can ever do is make each day count, but it’s an awful feeling to let a friend go.

Sorry to hear about your loss. . Losing a pet is very difficult. They are family. Take a while to grieve.

My deepest condolences Paul. It’s never easy to lose a pet, but at least he’s never suffering.

Darned critters, how they work their way into your heart. I’m very sorry about Tucker’s death. That decision is just hard.

So sorry for your loss Paul. We lost our favorite guy in February and still miss him greatly. We’re also cat-less for first time in decades. Our hearts are totally with you. Tucker was truly handsome guy.

I am sad for your loss Paul. I hope the happy memories outweigh the sadness we have today.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Paul. I know Tucker meant so much to your family, and the Uni Watch family.

Very sorry to hear Paul! Loosing any pet is very hard and even more so when there are decisions involved. As previously mentioned, our hearts are with you!

So sorry for your loss Paul. The hardest day and decision of any pet owner’s life. It is the loss of a family member, nothing less. Hang in there.

So sorry about your loss, Paul. As a pet owner myself, I know how attached we become to our pets and how they become part of the family.

My heartfelt sympathies to you, Paul. I always enjoyed Tucker’s cameos at Uni Watch. He helped bring a refreshing touch of warmth and whimsy to the site. He’ll be missed.

Sorry for your loss, Paul. We lost our dog in April and even moved since then and it still doesn’t feel right. My thoughts are with you.

    So sorry for your loss.

You gave her a good life and she was lucky to have you as a human.

    Deepest condolences.

Sorry for you loss, Paul. So many people don’t understand that pets are just as much family as anyone else. Thoughts and prayers during a difficult time.

Sorry for your loss Paul. Thoughts and prayers are headed to you and Caitlin.

Paul, I add my condolences to those above for the passing of your beloved Tucker. (We lost our dear Emma this spring, so I truly empathize.) He and Caitlyn have added even more charm to what is a wonderful and charming site — and, more importantly, he was part of your family.

My heart goes out to you, Paul. I know this is a big loss for you. We’ll be here for you (virtually) as you grieve.

Toughest and most heart breaking decision to make – still makes me cry 14 months later. My deepest condolences.

I’m very sorry to hear about your cat. The special bond between us and our animals is stronger than most people realize.

If you have a bonded pair, bring both animals to the vet together, and they will understand when they see their friend. My vet recommended it when I had a pair of elderly dachshunds, and the surviving dog never seemed to be “searching”.

Long time reader, only have written previously to chastise you for overlooking something Oklahoma State. This post is not for that. Take care bud, deservedly mourn your ass off – and we’ll pick up on the MLB barf weekend tomorrow.

My wife and I feel your pain. We have been in your shoes 3 times in the last 7 years, having to say goodbye to a four-legged feline child before their time. Having to make a decision about whether to let a furry family member suffer isn’t easy… but, from experience, I know that it is the right thing to do as a final act of love from us to them. Hang in there!

So sorry Paul. We lost our 15 year old cat last Wednesday. She had been sick since January, but got worse quickly last week. We’ll miss her so much.

So sorry to hear that Paul. Having been through the loss of a 15 year old pet, I know how empty the house and heart feel once they’re gone, and I hope you’re getting some personal TLC from friends to help you out.

My condolences as well. We also lost a cat suddenly this past June and it was tough. Thoughts are with you.

Paul, I’m verry sorry for your loss. The loss of a pet is like losing a family member.
My family’s 2 cats died a few years ago and they are missed every day.
    My thoughts are with you.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Paul. I know how important cats can be in our lives and the effect of losing one has on us. I hope that it gets better over time.

Paul, I am so sorry to hear about Tucker. I went through this twice in the last two years and it sucks, to be blunt. My cat Sam’s death really hit me hard, to the point where I made a blog post about him. Maybe it’ll help a bit.

Sorry for your loss. My wife and I have three cats and don’t know what we will do when that time comes for us.

Paul, please know you gave Tucker an incredible life. Losing a friend like him is hard. Despite everything life throws at us, they are the one constant. Always there by your side. Sorry for the loss.

Paul, I’ve been through this way too many times with both dogs and cats. It leaves a small hole in your heart that you can never quite fill. Sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing of all.

So sorry to hear this, Paul. We lost one of our guys 15 months ago after a three-month battle with cancer. I can’t imagine going from “all is well” to goodbye in a week.

I’ve been reading with regularity, but haven’t been pressed to comment for some time. I’m so sorry for the loss of your furry buddy. So many of us empathize. That doesn’t make it any better, but, well, we’re on your side.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I always loved when they showed up in the news feeds. Losing a member of the family is always hard. I hope you’re doing OK.

Tucker lived extra years because you were such a caring owner. People like you should have pets. I’m really glad you do.

Just came upon this…..dang. Have had cat children all my life, and have had to make that decision fat=r too many times. You KNOW you are helping them, but is never is easy. My sincere condolences on Tucker, and extra love and treats for Caitlin.

Condolances. I lost my “once in a lifetime” pet a year ago. I’m still not over it – but now I can look back on the happy times and smile. I’m so sorry for your loss, Paul. And all my love to Caitlin.

Tucker looks like a sweet kitty with white paws and that white face. Kind of reminds me of my ex-GF’s cat who we lost to cancer earlier this year. It’s not easy.

So sorry to hear about this (and that I was this late reading it). People who don’t have pets often don’t understand that losing one is very much like losing a family member. I wish you and the Tugboat Captain the best in getting through this.

So very sorry for your loss, Paul. You clearly gave Tucker a wonderful life, and I hope that your many wonderful memories of him will be a source of solace and, in time, joy. Sending positive vibes & thoughts of peace.

Very sorry for your loss, Paul. I’m a fellow cat owner and know how important and special these little guys are. My thoughts are with you.

My prayers and condolences to you Paul on your loss of Tucker. I know how much my cats mean to me and I pray that Caitlin is ok as well.
