In today’s Ticker: a soccer jersey made from plastic bottles, the supply chain’s latest effect on the uni-verse, and more.

Football

NFL

  • Apparently the Raiders don’t have captaincy patches because of a supply chain issue, which the league is working to resolve. (From Moe Khan)
  • The Ravens have released their uni combo for this Sunday’s game against the Browns. (From Andrew Cosentino)

College

  • Virginia apparently lost five players’ jerseys ahead of last night’s game, so those players were forced to play in NNOB jerseys with different uni numbers. (Thanks, Jamie)
  • Here are this weekend’s uni combos for Mizzou, UNLVPitt, UL-Lafayette, WVU, Tennessee, and Minnesota. (Thanks to all who shared)
Hockey

NHL

  • Reader @WeberKing compiled a “somewhat definitive” list of all the times the Bruins wore their original Pooh Bear alternate. One notable thing is that the Bruins wore white helmets the first time they wore this uniform and then switched to black helmets. This is probably because the white helmets looked awful with the dark jersey.
  • Reader Nicholas Walz notes that the serifs on the “2” in the Rangers’ uni number font are slightly different between the TV number and the helmet number, a problem the Reverse Retro unis do not seem to have.
Basketball

NBA

  • The Jazz’s purple throwbacks have the regular Nike maker’s mark, rather than the one used on “Classic Edition” throwback unis. Why? Because Utah has designated the purple throwback as their City design, so it’s not a “Classic” throwback — just a City design that happens to be a throwback. Confused yet?

College

Soccer

International

  • Italy: Inter Milan have finally gotten around to releasing their third jersey, which is made primarily from recycled plastic bottles. (Thanks, Phil)
Rugby
  • The Leigh Centurions, recently promoted to England’s Super League, have rebranded as the Leigh Leopards. (From Sy Hart)
Grab Bag
  • Here’s a Twitter thread on the recent history of British Prime Ministers’ lectern designs. Evidently, each Prime Minister gets to choose their own. (From Scott Rogers)
  • Here’s a fun Philadelphia-centric quiz where you have to guess which logo each letter in the alphabet is from. If you’re not familiar with Philadelphia, it can be tricky. (From @phillyparttwo)

The difference in the NY Rangers sleeve “2” versus the back of the jersey was something I first noticed in 2020 and I just assumed it was one of those “that’s how it’s always been” kind of things, similar to the interlocking NY on the Yankees jersey and hats not matching.

After years of US presidents using seemingly the same lectern, there is now a similar variety like the UK’s; based on type of event. The UK Twitter thread is quite funny, and I love the Jenga analogy.

Never been to Philadelphia, do not know a lot about the city but I scored 20 out of 26 letters on that Inquirer quiz. A lot of fun! Go LaSalle Explorers!

Anyone know the reason the Ravens stick with the “Speed” Nike template for their current home/road set. But, use the “Vapor” for the Color Rash????

Is it me or do the phillies uniforms look like they We’re laundered in bleach and the red numbers ran. The white of the Jersey’s not there. They look pink.

I have said this before, but today’s gopher uniform reveal activated two pet peeves- as a gophers fan I have generally enjoyed their different looks (except anthracite).

    HOWEVER

    1. I hate reveal videos. Would much rather have photos where I can actually look at the details. And why a parking garage for this one?

    2. ROW— uniforms should not be a vehicle for anyone’s personal branding.

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three emails with the same comment.

Is there any way you can remove people from that service?

    Bless you!
