Baseball

MLB

  • With the Phillies and Padres facing off in the NLCS, someone in San Diego painted a mural of the San Diego Chicken kicking the Phillie Phanatic’s ass. But one day later, the mural was painted over. (From Mike Chamernik)
  • Following up on yesterday’s lede about crypto deals gone bad: The Nats signed a deal to name a fancy suite in their stadium after the crypto platform Terra, whose CEO is now an international fugitive. (From @SamBobLev)
  • Here’s something I didn’t know: Before moving the Kansas City A’s to Oakland, owner Charlie Finley tried to move the team to Louisville. Key quote from that 1964 article: “We will wear bluegrass green and Ft. Knox gold. And we will be called either the Louisville Athletics or the Louisville Sluggers.” (From Dwayne White)
  • Another team wearing long parkas in the dugout: the 1981 Dodgers, as seen toward the end of this video clip. (From Dwayne White again)
  • Really interesting article on the decline of ash bats.

NFL

  • The Dolphins will wear aqua throwbacks this Sunday, along with a jersey patch marking the 50th anniversary of the team’s “perfect season” in 1972. (Thanks to all who shared)
  • In a related item, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel doesn’t Get It™. (Thanks, Phil)
  • Newly signed Ravens WR DeSean Jackson is wearing No. 15. As you can see in that link, his Twitter handle includes the number 10, which was his longtime number with the Eagles, although he’s worn several other numbers since then. (From Andrew Cosentino)
  • Teal jerseys and black pants this week for the Jags, who’ll be hosting the Giants.

NBA

  • The Pacers’ City jersey has apparently leaked at retail, and it’s really, uh, something. (From Nate Miller)

  • Here’s a thread showing all of this season’s new NBA court designs.
  • Jazz G Collin Sexton reportedly came into last night’s game with his shorts on backwards. “He had to change them during a quick timeout,” says Christopher Jones.

  • Judging by the cover design, an upcoming book about sports and the American presidency may have some good uni-related photos. (From Max Weintraub)

I have to chuckle at a Penn State football uniform reveal. Oh, we have white shoes and a number on our helmet this week.

That Pacers jersey is brutal. Please NBA and Nike, stop with these endless jerseys. You’ve clearly run out of ideas already.

I’m guessing Dragic had Indiana on the back of his shoes, because those are probably the University team shoes, with Adidas being their shoe supplier.

Exactly. I think adidas supplied him with these as they have (Bulls) red striping. Looks cool, even though the guy never was a Hoosier. I love college issue sneakers found in outlets, I once owned a pair of purple and black TCU Nikes.

The La Tech Columbia blue alternates seriously deserve their own lede. An absolutely visually stunning retro uniform. The Techsters primary uniform is quite nice, but this weekend’s combo takes it to a whole different level.

Just tried it, could not find anything under boiler on hockey skates or stove on hockey skates. My guess: a high school team or some obscure team from Finland or Sweden. Great hat, absolutely.

I doubt it is for a foreign team. The price tag shows it is sold by Ross Dress for Success. I put the codes into a Google search. Came up with nothing productive. A complete picture of the tag might help.
