It may be petty of Mark Cuban, but that’s on the salesman. If you are pitching a product to a prospective group of investors, and you know without a Google search that one of the 4 potential investors is an NBA owner, don’t you tailor your sales pitch accordingly? That is a stunning oversight. Know your audience.

On one hand, it’s a bad idea to troll a prospective investor on national TV, especially over a wound still fresh (Mavs lost to the Warriors in the West Finals just a few months ago).

Then again… there’s a chance this could’ve worked, that the entrepreneurs woulda caught Cuban off guard, and he would’ve laughed it off and respected their chutzpah. So you never know.

I have never sensed that Cuban has enough of a sense of humor (read: any) for this to have worked. But then, based on my own experience with him as a journalist, I rank him among the largest jerks with the largest egos in sports, so I’m not exactly a neutral observer.

Agreed. Incredible lack of judgment on the part of the inventor. You’re asking someone to become your partner in a business and this is your approach?

Years ago we did a pitch to a major consumer products company. The first thing we did before they came in was scrub our office of any trace of competitors products. That stuff matters and it was noticed. This is the equivalent of inviting Coke to a meeting and serving them Pepsi with their lunch. Unbelievably stupid.

Gotta imagine he was a “no” regardless of the logo and all of this was just for show to make for dramatic reality television.

Call me cynical – but this is reality TV. I think there’s a fair chance that this was done on purpose.
