Baseball

MLB

  • Singer SZA appeared on this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live wearing a vintage Mariners hat. (From Max Weintraub)
Football

College

  • Left over from Saturday: The ACC championship game’s field featured UVa Strong graphics around the edges.
  • Ohio State will continue to wear the white version of its 2002 throwbacks for CFP games, as was the case last season, assuming Georgia doesn’t choose to wear white.
Basketball

NBA

  • The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the Jazz, who just introduced new uniforms this season, are already surveying fans about possible new uniforms that would debut in 2024.
  • The Heat posted a video of SF Jimmy Butler stretching out the armholes of his jersey prior to suiting up. (From FK Yang)

College

  • The Virginia Tech/North Carolina men’s game yesterday was color vs. color. (From Andrew Cosentino)
  • Rutgers named its court after former women’s coach C. Vivian Stringer yesterday. (From @stevenwoj)
Hockey

NHL

  • Capitals LW Alex Ovechkin has a large and growing collection of game-used equipment that he both saves from his own milestones and gets from other NHL players, apparently with the goal of donating it to a museum in Russia or opening his own.

College

  • After a sportswriter raised ethical questions about the trademark for the North Dakota men’s team’s popular “NODAK” jerseys being owned by the coach’s daughter, the university is now taking steps to acquire the trademark.

Minors/Juniors

  • ’Tis the season: The AHL’s San Jose Barracuda  and the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers both wore ugly sweater-themed jerseys on Saturday. (From Wade Heidt and our own Jerry Wolper, respectively)
  • The QMJHL’s Acadie-Bathurst Titan wore throwbacks yesterday. (From Wade Heidt)
  • In the same league, the Charlottetown Islanders wore Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys on Saturday. (From Wade Heidt)
  • The WHL’s Calgary Hitmen wore alternates for their annual teddy bear toss game. (From Wade Heidt)
Soccer

USA

International

  • French center-back Jules Koundé started yesterday’s men’s World Cup game against Poland wearing a necklace, which isn’t allowed for safety reasons. The officials didn’t ask him to remove it until 41 minutes in, at which point he needed help doing so. (From Max Weintraub and Trevor Williams)
  • New Zealand: New Zealand Football has a new logo. However, it won’t be worn by the national teams, meaning there are now two different fern-based logos that say “New Zealand Football,” one with one fern and one with two.
  • Scotland: Scottish Women’s Premier League teams participated in the No Home Kit campaign by wearing second or third kits to support the homelessness charity Shelter Scotland. The only SWPL 1 team that couldn’t participate of the 10 that played was Dundee United, because opponents Celtic wore a black second kit and United’s second kit is also black. United wore Shelter Scotland warm-up shirts instead.

The moth tins collection is very cool! Thanks for sharing. And, based on the photo included, can you bring back the Uni Watch Bobblehead? I’d love one for my collection.

I’m glad North Dakota found a unique identifier (“NODAK”) after farting around with that trite “Fighting Hawks” name.

“NODAK” isn’t replacing Fighting Hawks as the teams nickname. They are just trademarking “NODAK” for merchandise reasons. They will be the “Fighting Hawks” for now and forever. Go Gophers!

Which is infuriating for many reasons, one of which being that many clubs will change out of their first choice colours to wear alternates when there isn’t even the slightest semblance of a kit clash.

You’d think the Premier league would lunge at any opportunity for clubs to don their lesser-worn kits to promote sales.

Doesn’t have to be the vintage uniforms. It could be something new. I just want to see the Jazz back in purple with green and yellow trim as the primary look.

Why do I feel like City Connect is already taking over NBA and MLB? Enough Nike! Stop with the Geography already!

What survey is there really to take with the Utah Jazz? Do fans really want anything other than the purple/green/yellow look with the basketball Jazz note as part of “JAZZ” along the front?

It’s crazy how many sports franchises keep changing their look or making their look worse when they have a look from years ago that were absolutely perfect.
