- Canada had some pretty nice unis at the 1982 Little League World Series. And if you’re wondering who that player is, that’s five-time NHL All-Star Pierre Turgeon. Five years after playing in the Little League World Series, he’d be suiting up for the Sabres in the NHL. (From @mrbh204)

Hockey
NHL
- The Hurricanes wore their red helmets with white sweaters on the road in Pittsburgh last night — the first time they’ve ever worn that combo. It’s a look I quite like, actually. (From multiple readers)
- There was more helmet news out of the Canes/Pens game, as the Penguins added a memorial decal for Franco Harris. (From Wade Heidt)

- England: Nottingham Forest, who had been the only Premier League club playing without a primary shirt advertiser this season, have signed a deal with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to put UNHCR’s logo on their shirts for the remainder of the season. I’m surprised Forest lasted this long in the biggest league on the world without a shirt advertiser, and pleasantly surprised that the deal they signed isn’t with a betting company or dodgy airline. Good call on the Hurricanes’ red helmets. When I saw that last night, I had a feeling they had never done it before. It’s a great look…
Reminds me of junior hockey uniforms. The coloured helmet with white uniforms. Back in 1980s and 1990s major junior hockey teams only had one helmet so this type of thing was common. Today, some major junior teams still only have one helmet but more common now for most teams to have a white helmet with white uniforms.
Though some teams have 2 different colour helmets that are meant for home and road uniforms. Moose Jaw Warriors and Kitchener Rangers.
So, do you like it or no?
I don’t like it at the top NHL level. The regular white uniform should have a white helmet. How it is at the pinnacle of hockey and how it’s always been (with exception of the Penguins in the 1980s of course).

If the Hurricanes want to mix and match, I want to see how they would look with the red helmets/pants with black jerseys/socks.

I had the opposite reaction. They looked VERY college hockey to me. Actually love it on the BU Terriers, but doesn’t feel NHL to me.
The Penguins/Hurricanes game also featured both teams wearing diagonal names on their sweaters.
Black over purple — the worst of all worlds.
I think it’s a great look. Especially if you think about a “raven” and the fact that it is the team’s actual colors. Not some BFBS like the Jets, Cardinals and Eagles.
It looks better than purple jersey over black pants. Imho, pants should never be darker than the jersey in football, unless the jersey is white. It just doesn’t look right.
In the NHL there could be color-on-color games if teams provided three helmets (white, primary color, and secondary color) to ensure opposing teams contrast. A game between the Rangers and Habs would look incredible if one team had red buckets.
Original 6 teams wearing same colour buckets and playing colour vs. colour did happen back in 1991-92. Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs. Enjoy my friends:

Why force color vs color unless it’s 1) an outdoor game or 2) a neutral site game? White vs. color in the NHL is probably the most aesthetically pleasing uni matchup of any of the major sports. And teams should wear white at home, as god intended.
