If you accept the premise that the MVP trophy needs to be named after someone, it’s logical that it would be named after someone who won the award multiple times (Jordan), rather than someone who won it one time (Bryant).

That said, the article in the ticker about Jamal Crawford seems to be about his opinion on the league’s logo, rather than the NVP trophy, unless I misread it.

Shaq, Duncan, Hakeem, Bird, Magic, Wilt, Russell, LeBron, Kareem, MJ
And some people would put Steph and Oscar above as well. All subjective however, but easy to see how arguments can be made either way

Jordan, Russell, Kareem, Wilt, Magic, Bird, Duncan, Shaq, LeBron, Steph. My brain debates over Hakeem and Oscar but I already named ten.

Jordan, Chamberlain, Magic, Russell, Kareem, LeBron, Bird, Duncan, Hakeem, Shaq, Steph. I just gave you 11 who are head and shoulders above. Shall I continue??

I’ve found it interesting that hoopers of all ages absolutely idolize Kobe. He’s their guy. I think it’s because they respect Kobe’s tenacity, work ethic, clutch performances, and maybe most of all, his “bag” of skills and moves.

Agree on the continued worship of Kobe. Does everyone forget the trial in Colorado? He was found not guilty…but he still didn’t come off as a hero.

Technically, while Kobe is considered innocent until proven guilty, he wasn’t found not guilty at a trial because his accusor declined to testify after a settlement on the civil suit.

That Westbrook/green shoes thing reminds me of when Joe Forte, after being drafted by the Celtics, wore a throwback Lakers jersey at something like a press conference, and I was thinking kinda the same thing as Reggie Miller (if my memory is correct about the whole thing).

In this age of #MeToo, I generally tend to shy way from honoring men who sexually assaulted women.

And before you decide to troll me, go back and read your hero’s letter of apology: “I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.

As lame an “apology” as it was, he admitted IN HIS OWN WORDS, standards which would be considered sexual assault at the very least, and rape in most states.

Just because you’re Kobe, and in your mind “every woman wants to f$%& Kobe”, doesn’t mean that in real life every woman really does want to f$%& Kobe.

    No means no.

That you had to rough her up to get what you wanted should be a clear sign to you and to everyone.

And to those of you that still see him as some kind of hero, it never ceases to amaze me how blind you people are.

Mybe we should rename the NFL Man of the Year trophy after OJ.

I’m glad I’m not the only person that has this opinion of Kobe Bryant. He was a horrible human being. The fact that he is almost deified by the basketball community has always blown my mind. It got worse after his death.
Despite paying off his victim to drop charges, he did sexually assault her. No one like that should be the enduring symbol of basketball.

While I understand not wanting to support Bryant over what he did, are you going to hold that over his head for the rest of your life? How would you like it is someone publicized your worst decision ever made and every time you tried to do something, they brought that up.
Athletes are human. They make mistakes, and they make very bad decisions, but they are still human. Given that he gave an apology, granted a half-hearted one, but an apology notheless, we should be able to move on as a society.

We see him as a hero ON THE BASKETBALL FLOOR and FOR THE BASKETBALL COMMUNITY. No one holds up Kobe as a pillar of morality (hell, most fans will agree that he was a teriible teammate and very uncoachable). We honor him for his incredible feats and accomplishments on the court, and the impact he made on the community around him.

What good does it do to continue to drag a dead man’s name, especially when we have people like Deshaun Waston who are both alive and active in their sport while committing the same crime 20x more? I don’t defend Kobe’s morally incorrect and illegal choices, but I do defend his legacy as an athlete.

This isn’t about Deshaun Watson. He, too is a terrible person. As is Ben Roethlisberger, Donald Trump, or any other individual who sexually assaulted a woman.
And yes, I will hold it against that person forever. Most men don’t sexually assault women, and those who do deserve all the scorn and hatred they get.
The fact that they may be a good athlete doesn’t give them a pass.

His victim is going to carry it around for the rest of her life.

Look, he didn’t make a mistake. He freaking raped a girl. Yes, that should forever follow this man around. Yes, it should be an automatic disqualifier to any honor the starstruck try to bestow upon him.

And how many other victims did he leave in his wake, too afraid or too embarrased or too ashamed to speak out? Sociologists will tell you this was unlikely a one-off circumstance. Sexual predators typically repeat their behavior over and over. I have no illusions that this was a one-time thing for Kobe.

    Please reconsider.

Totally off subject…… But was listening to my Led Zeppelin box set earlier. How cool would it be for the Vikings to enter the field to that????????? It was great in Thor: Ragnarok
