MLB
- Interesting observation by Steven Safran, who writes, “The Red Sox posted a “Farewell to Xander” video on Facebook (yesterday) morning, and I noticed a shot of him wearing the red alternate shirt with the NOB reading “X. Bogaerts.” …He’s wearing #12. He started as #72 and finished as #2. Maybe early in his career, Spring Training? Why the X? Why then, but not on other occasions?”

NFL
- It’s not quite Dymo tape (or is it?) but still: Reader Kurt Rozek writes, “the Lions had the players’ NOB on their helmet stripes for at least part of a season (1991). Is this common knowledge? I know about the Cowboys doing it, but I don’t recall seeing this before until recently.”
- HAH! A supposed “white out” helmet for the Vikings/Giants Christmas Eve game was “leaked,” and more than a few folks thought it might really be used during the game (it won’t).
- The Bills will once again be wearing their all-blue uniforms when they host the Jets, who will again go green/white/black. Gang Green has not worn either green jerseys or green pants this entire season.
- According to the GUD, Seattle will be wearing blue jerseys over gray pants at home, a very rare look for a team who almost always goes mono-blue in Seattle.

- Also last night the Islanders debuted their RR “Fisherman” sweaters. The team had some fun with it too.
- “During part of Pens-Sabres broadcast Saturday night there were no virtual board or on-ice ads, but there was a scorebug ad,” says LJ Sparvero. “Normally the virtual board ads change every few minutes, but the broadcast showed the actual dasher boards at that time. There were virtual back-glass ads then. Just FYI, I’ve attached a photo of what some of the virtual ads look like.”

NBA
- Finally! A score bug we don’t complain about: Austin Ledley was watching the Celtics/Warriors last night, and says, “I LOVE that the score bug perfectly matches the uniforms. Boston in white with green numbers and Golden State in blue with yellow numbers.”
- Speaking of Celtics/Warriors, Golden State officially retired the number “6” for Bill Russell, who played for the Celtics, and whose number is being retired league-wide by the NBA this year (a la Jackie Robinson and Wayne Gretzky). (From Paul)

Per Woody Johnson (Jets owner), they’ll be going white over green today
When I heard about the “white out” game for the Vikings, I wondered if they were going with a white helmet……
Different week. Same NFL uniform horrors.
Jets are wearing green pants today
And the Lions are going mono-Honolulu today. Monolulu?
Bills why are you doing this blue over blue so constantly? We need answers about who thinks this is a better decision than wearing blue over white. And why they think that.
Islanders’ Reverse Retro could use a bit more teal.
Further to the NLL’s Las Vegas Desert Dogs. They are in a city with bright lights and glitz, yet this new NLL expansion team has the most plain uniforms period. Check out the white ones here. Just white and black. Barely any striping and also no helmet decalling which is common for NLL teams.

You say this as if it’s a bad thing…
Bogaerts brother was also on the Red Sox for a few years: link
That does seem to explain the “X.” As for the number, I wonder if it was a situation where the team brings a newly drafted/signed player to the big league park for batting practice
Not only do the Jackrabbits helmets say “Last Play”, the white helmets are a gift from former players. It’s an alternate helmet from the standard blue.
I now actively root against the Jets because of those stupid black pants. They are awful.
Seahawks navy over grey looks so much better; so of course they are playing like crap today.
That Colombia Rugby insignia is a work of art!
Isles’ RR sweaters played fast ‘n loose with the details, such as the wave-shaped yoke that used to contain lighthouses. The numbers used to be custom-cut to fit in the parallelogram-shaped space on the player’s back. Probably too much labor for special-event jersey.
