I’m pleased to announce the next Uni Watch contest, and this time we’ll be having an awesome prize for the winner. I’ll be teaming up with UW reader Alain Nana-Sinkam who is the proprietor of Classic Old School Gear (more on that below), and who has generously offered to offer the winner of this contest a custom made, personalized jersey. So what’s the contest, specifically? OK…let’s set up the ground rules, and then we’ll hear from the man who’s agreed to provide that custom jersey for the winner.
The Contest:
Basically, it’s pretty simple. Many of you have been sending me NFL uniform “tweaks/concepts/revisions” for the past couple of months, and many people enjoy them, so they’re a regular feature now. Several readers have sent me multiple submissions, while others have sent me one or two. Some of you may not have sent in any, but were considering it. This contest will be based off of the “uni tweaks” premise.
Whether or not you have already submitted anything, we’re going to start completely from scratch — so if you’ve submitted something to me previously, feel free to resubmit it now, but anything previously submitted must be sent in anew. If you’re happy with the design, that’s great, but this gives you a chance to make it even better.
So, here’s the deal:
Please submit, hopefully in jpg or bmp or similar format, ONE uniform redesign for any NFL team. You can submit a home and away, and you can submit an entire uniform set (helmet, jersey, pants, socks, shoes), but we’re looking for the jersey. It may be helpful to create the full uniform (for visual purposes) so feel free to do so, but please remember the jersey is the important part.
Please provide front, back and side-on views.
One entry per person. If you have several teams you’ve tweaked in the past, or several looks for one team, select the one you feel is the best. If you send me multiple entries, I will only post the first one you send.
Please describe your creation in 50 words or less. Anything more than that will not be included. I love the lengthy descriptions of concepts, but for this contest, be as concise as possible.
When all the entries are in, we’ll be letting the readers pick the best design — and the one who submits that best design will be getting a custom-created, top quality jersey, based on that concept, and created by Classic Old School Design.
You can begin submitting your designs to me immediately. The deadline for the contest is February 1, 2010. Because I get a LOT of emails from readers, I need you to put in the subject line: “UNI WATCH NFL JERSEY DESIGN CONTEST”.
Send all submissions directly to me at this address.
Remember:
* Any team, any uniform, but the jersey is what will be created, so the UW vote will be based on the jersey design
* 50 words or less to describe your creation.
* Deadline: February 1, 2010.
* If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me (same address as above) — just label the e-mail “Question(s) about the NFL jersey contest”.
OK? OK! This an an awesome prize, so lets see some great designs, one of which will go from concept to reality.
And now, a few words from the man who is making this possible, Alain Nana-Sinkam:
“I’m a seven-day-week UniWatcher, and I like the blend of Paul’s stories, interviews and ticker items during the week with the weekend coverage that Phil provides. And I’m a HUGE fan of the UniTweaks. I’d like to invite the UniWatch community to flex its design muscle and show some creativity – with a pretty cool prize to boot. So for our first UniTweak Contest, Classic Old School is offering offering to actually construct the winning jersey design, so that the contest champion can show off their creative work.”
About Classic Old School
“I started Classic Old School in the summer of 2008, but the idea came to me about a year earlier, before Christmas. I was thinking of a gift for my brother-in-law, and stumbled upon a picture of him from high school. I thought about having his jersey remade, and since it was a pretty basic design (save for the detailed anchor logo on the sleeves), I was able to find some vendors to get it done. Once I saw his face after he opened his gift, I knew I had a business plan.
“I’ve been intersted in jerseys for as long as I can really remember. But when I was younger, they weren’t as easy to get as they are now. My mother made me a Darryl Dawkins Sixers jersey from a red cotton tank top (blue light special at KMart) and a set of iron-on letters and numbers.
“My first store-bought jersey was a Rawlings Dan Fouts home blue (no name on back, still saving it for my little boy), and I’ve amassed a pretty large collection of throwback jerseys. Because I live in the Philadelphia area, have spent more than a little time at the Mitchell & Ness flagship store in Center City. I got to know the founder pretty well, and even did some informal research for him. I credit him with encouraging me to start my company.
“So, what do we do? A little bit of everything. We do football, baseball, basketball (jerseys and shorts) and hockey. We usually start with the customer providing a photo or description of what they wore, and we work closely to make sure we’re using the right materials, colors and design elements. We don’t carry inventory, since everything is made at the time of order. As a result, it takes longer, but our customers tell us the wait is worth it. We were fortunate last year to make the retirement jerseys for four former Kansas State basketball stars (including Mitch Richmond) who were having their numbers retired, and that project earned us an additional opportunity to make the jersey backs of several former Wildcats who went on to play in the pros.
“If you’re interested, we’ve set up a fan page on Facebook, and we’re just getting on the Twitter. In both spots, I post links to pics of some the jerseys we’re currently shipping, so you can get a glimpse at the process.
“I’m not quitting my day job, but I’ve received such impassioned responses from customers whom we’ve helped to recreate a memory, I know that what we’re doing has value, and I’m grateful to Paul and the UniWatch community for providing the chance and place to tell our story.”
So now that you’ve seen the amazing work Classic Old School provides, how awesome would it be to wear one of their masterpieces that YOU designed? Pretty freakin’ awesome, right. And if you’re not the designing type, but you still love the product, consider having a custom-made jersey for a friend or loved one as well.
So get cracking, all you uni tweakers. Once I have all the submissions, I’ll present them to the readership and you guys can decide which one is the best. The winner will receive a custom designed football jersey from Classic Old School.
Thanks again to Alain and Classic Old School for making this possible.
G’day Mates… It’s time for the Australian Open again, kiddies, which means it’s time to reintroduce my doubles partner, Brinke Guthrie, who’s here to bring you the low down…down under:
Who’s the cute and cuddly pair? None other than Brooklyn Decker (& what’s-his-name) with koala bears.
The Australian Open is here. While much of the USA is shivering, it’s en fuego down under. Lots of equipment changes for the men and women going for the first Slam of 2010. (Even though it’s January, Nike’s fall line is here.) The Fed’s “OZ 2010 Lookbook” is cool. Novak Djokovic has moved to Italian line Sergio Tacchini from Adidas. One of the world’s top overrated players, Andy Murray, dumped Fred Perry clothing for Adidas. Jo-Wilfred Tsonga’s new Adidas line is here, Fernando Verdasco’s is here, and Ana’s is here. (Look quick, she’ll likely be out in R1 as usual.) Sharapova’s look is here. It was rumored that Andy Roddick was going to Babolat clothing to match his frames, but no, he’s staying with Lacoste. Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis has dumped Adidas and has just stuck his country flag on his stuff. (Guess Adidas didn’t want to pay him more.) World #20 Tomas Berdych has moved from Dunlop frames to Head. (No stencil on the string means no money has changed hands yet.) Bob and Mike Bryan, a top USA doubles team, moved to K-Swiss, same as Sam Querry.
Awesome Brinke. Thanks!
Today’s Benchies is brought to you by adidas. Or something. Hey…do they allow “00” in volleyball? Here’s Rick with the setup:
Learning a new sport can be daunting. Even dangerous. But, on the other hand, it’s worth the risk because (double-eyebrow raise) we ARE playing co-ed, after all.
Enjoy your eight-panel, full-color Sunday Benchies.
Guess The Game From The Scoreboard: Ah…earthquakes, power failures, “Black Sunday”…so many things can disrupt a game. Don’t ya just hate when that happens? Let’s see if you have been paying attention to your games stopped due to unforseen circumstances. Ready? Guess The Game From The Scoreboard. Date, location and final score, please, and be sure to link to your answer. And, as always, if you enjoy the game, please send me some new scoreboards! Drop me a line. Thanks!
With the Uni Watch Deep Freeze now only days away, just wanted to remind anyone who’s planning on making the trek (or if you live within driving distance), about the UW Gathering. We’re all going to be meeting on Friday the 22nd, 8pm, at the downtown location of Grumpy’s. While the weather forecasts aren’t really worth a hill of beans outside of 72 hours, the good news is that the long range forecasts aren’t predicting the sub-zero temps that Minnesota was experiencing a couple weeks ago. And the REAL key is of course, the Arctic Oscillation Index, which has been trending upward for the past several days. For any of you who aren’t weather nerds, that’s a good thing. But it should be a balmy 70 degrees or so inside Grumpy’s, so if Pond Hockey and the myriad other activities happening next Friday through Sunday aren’t your thing, but you wanna hang out with a bunch of uniform obsessed folks, come on by and meet Paul and the gang. OK? OK!
Playoffs? Playoffs? Yesterday’s article on “How to fix the BCS” generated lots of heated comments. Of course, there is a great schism when the subject turns to playoffs. Well, my buddy, Ben Traxel (incidentally, the man who designed the “Deep Freeze” poster, as seen above), has for years been contemplating how the BCS would have gone down had there been actual playoffs. (rpm just burst another blood vessel.)
I’ll let Ben explain: “What I have done each year is to create a bracket of what could be (IMO) a great scenario. Obviously there are some who feel otherwise….rpm, ricko… I have always felt that this would be great and a bigger money maker. And as we all know, more money is what it is REALLY about. I probably made some tweaks along the way, haven’t looked at the older ones in a while.”
Very interesting indeed — may have been fun to see how these actually played out. Ben provided me with his brackets for 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, and TWO scenarios for 2008. I put them all into a nice and tidy Flickr Set. The “a” portion of the year is the bracket itself, while the “b” portion is the notes on that bracket. In the case of 2008, Ben provided a regular bracket/notes, as well as an “alternate” scenario, which are noted as 2008a & 2008b (regular) and 2008c & 2008d (alternate).
Great stuff Ben.
Our next round of Uniform Tweaks, Concepts and Revisions is upon us again. I realize today’s main article is about the NFL Uni Tweaks contest, but these were all received prior to the announcement (obviously). I still have a few that have trickled in (and continue to do so), so anything received prior to today’s announcement will still be a part of the regular “Uni Tweaks” series. If you have a tweak for the NFL or any other sport that you don’t want to be a part of today’s contest (or you have MANY teams you’ve tweaked), continue to send them in. Today’s contest is a ‘special’ deal with specific instructions. OK? OK!!!
First up today is Julian Grant, who thinks next year the Eagles really need a revamp. And he’s got an interesting new way of creating them as well:
Watching the Eagles get pasted by Dallas on Saturday, I decided that if they’re going to play badly they should at least look a little better than they do. So here’s a new look for Philly. The first thing I focused on was a new logo. Their current one is fine, but I feel like there’s not enough green and it’s a little overdone and cartoon-y for the NFL, in my opinion. So, I came up with this logo based on this one. The green is tweaked a little- a little less of the midnight, and more of the green. Next, on the uniforms I eliminated black and emphasized silver, with a nice over-the-shoulder striping that’s echoed on the pants. Here are the uniforms (I hope they would never use the green-on-green monochrome, but I included it just in case):
Home Primary
Road Primary
Home Alt
Road AltThe process for creating these designs is probably a little different than most others; I drew them first by hand, colored them in with markers, took a picture, imported them onto Photobucket, and finally used the fill and draw tools on the editing feature to make them look somewhat more clean. I hope you enjoy this, and I’ll probably have more coming eventually.
Another reader who watched last weekend’s game and wasn’t real happy with one of the teams’ uniforms was Craig Ackers, who offers this tweak for the Cowboys:
Dear Uniwatch,
having watched the Cowboys last night I felt the need to add my update to the Cowboys uniform. I know people say it is a classic but I have just had enough of the different blues, greys/silvers and the black outline on the shoulder stripes. My update simply uses one shade of grey and one of blue throughout. Picture here. Hope you like.
All the best.
Craig Ackers
Moving along, we have Bradley Griffin, who has a Texans fix:
Just wanted to get these in before you move to the boring sports llike Basketball and Hockey … have stated to tweak the Astros but can’t bring back the orange and navy without looking like the Meats … will continue to work…
TEXANS:
Just did my best to Bring Back the Love Ya Blue feel without looking too much like the Titans… so I completely eliminated the “Deep Steel Blue” but kept the Battle Red instead of the Scarlet. The Powder blue is so much more a part of the city, I remember when the Police Cars used to be Powder Blue, the officers still wear Powder Blue uniforms (This officer is saying no more deep steel monochrome/leotard look.)
So For the Home went PB over Wht. Away Wht over PB. Kept the Red alternates and threw in a few other variations.
Despite White Helmets not doing well in College Bowls I can’t argue that the Chargers White Helmets and the Patriots Throw back look awesome in White. Especially with Red and Blue.
Thanks!
— Brad
Last up today is V. Yacobellis, who has really gone out and done something interesting with the Jets.
Hi Phil
Attached are 5 uniforms 2 home, 2 away, and an alternate.
There have been some NY Jets fans looking to add black to the uniform. With the Jets moving into a new stadium next year, I thought it would be a great time for a new uniform change. I do like there current uniform style, but I always like it when teams change a uniform and a more modern look. I would probably add a Black Metallic Helmet and use the NY logo that they use on their official stationary and outline it in black. Or design a Fierce looking Jet Fighter Airplane on the Helmet, something different. I would also be willing to add a touch of gold piping to connect their Titan history to the new uniform but just a touch. Green, White, Black and a touch of Gold trim.
Thank you for your time,
V
That’s gonna do it. As you can see, today was all football, but that’s just the order in which they came in. There will other sports in the next set of tweaks. Keep them coming, and if you have a uniform or set of uniforms you have concepted, send them my way. Remember, keep sending me those you don’t want considered for the contest.
OK. Enough for this fine Sunday. Good day yesterday for the best uniform teams, as the Saints whomped on the Cards and the Colts left Baltimore in the middle of the night. Not really any uni-shenanigans, but does it bother anyone else’s OCD that the golds on the Saints unis don’t match? Seriously, the gold on the helmet doesn’t match the gold on the collar, which doesn’t match the gold on the numbers, which doesn’t match the gold on the pants. Depending upon the lighting, that’s 4 distinct shades of gold. Dammit, that’s annoying. The Colts still have the best uni in the playoffs, but the new jersey cuts and Dwight Freeney’s pinched stripes continue to put that “best” title to the test. If the Jets can somehow defeat San Diego today…I may have to lean towards them in the title game.
Enjoy the games today. If the “best uni wins,” then we’ll be seeing Dallas and New York in N’Awlins & Indy next weekend.
Looking forward to anyone who can make the trek to Minnesota later on this week. Hope to see you there. Have a fantastic Sunday.
I’m really torn about entering this contest. I’ve got quite a few ideas floating around in my head… but my team loyalty would prevent me from wearing them even if I did win.
V. Yacobellis –
Your ideas for a new Jets uniform are everything that is wrong with sports uniform design these days. The sad thing is that idiot designers at the shoe companies cater to people like you, and uniforms like the Vikings, Falcons, et al actually get made to replace cleaner, more crisp looks that were beautiful to look at.
I am stunned at how awful what you have come up with truly is. Please turn in your licenses to design anything, procreate, and think. At once.
Did anyone else notice an abundance of “Clown Paint” on the Ravens players last night??
Some color on color from yesterday’s college b-ball.

Yes, the Jets tweaks are awful – but the personal attack was a bit over the top. Have a coffee chill, dude.

So… Just how large is that stick up the rear? Jesus Christ pal, it’s a hypothetical. Relax.
If the superior uniforms win again today, then it should be San Diego and Dallas moving on to the conference title games.
While I understand the direction Bradley Griffin went with his Texans Tweak, “Steel Blue” doesn’t seem to scream Texas or Houston, that powder blue just feels like “Oilers” to me.
Oh, and that powder blue was on a lot more than just the police cars in Houston

After this contest, can we have a “make the worst possible football jersey you can possibly think of?” Of course there would need to be some parameters (and people couldn’t just send in a bills jersey) but the results could be hysterical (that is until reebok saw them and made them a reality).

Personal attacks on another reader are completely inappropriate here. You don’t like his designs? Fine, but you can express that without the personal invective.
Don’t do that again. Thanks.
This is not aimed at anyone in particular, just an observation.
Good commerical designers don’t change the parameters (add colors, change colors, change or revise logos, etc.) of a client. They work within them.
Art for the artist’s sake is art.
Commercial art is art for corporate purposes. Huge difference. First and foremost, there are boundaries in commercial art that others put on the artist. If the designer is any good he/she accepts that, observes the constraints and still does outstanding work.
If the only way he/she come up with something is to change the paradigm, he/she is the wrong person for the project.
I’m sorry, but that’s just a real world fact.
(And I was still say—and I’m sticking to it, LOL—that a “tweak” and a “re-design” are like a horse and a zebra. Look a lot alike, but they’re entirely different animals.)

As someone who does stats for games, I would hate those. Very hard to see from the table. When I worked at a local community college we played a team across the state who had white uniforms with with numbers and a light yellow outline. Very difficult to read from the table.

Wait a second there, aflfan.
You’re saying the purpose of unis and numbers is to clearly and quickly identify teams and players?
That’s an interesting concept. Kinda throwbacky.

Yeah, that is what I am saying. There was another team in the conference that had white uniforms with black numbers and a black arch with the school name in it. The only problem was the black arch cut through the top of the numbers.
The Purdue unis look kinda cool up close but atrocious from a distance. And cause serious issues as aflfan pointed out.
yah just wondering if the purdue unis are a thing to come for other teams and in other sports for example: oregon football busting out white unis white reflective or textured numbers with green outline only…
Nice job, Ackers. I’ve been drawing the Cowboys like that since I was a little kid.
Many comments have been made regarding the Saint’s various shades of gold, and I agree with them wholeheartedly. However, the Steeleresque stripe on the pants is more ridiculous. I wish that they would get the same stripe pattern that is found on the helmet. That’s how it was when I was a kid, and it looked great.
If they won’t do that, then they should put a solid stripe on the helmet.
It just makes more sense.

Then the coaches will whine when the stats are wrong.
Last night, the Penguins had to sign an emergency goaltender to a 1-game contract. The Empty Netters blog at post-gazette.com relays the adventures of getting his jersey ready:
“(FSN reporter) Dan Potash reveals that it’s actually PechurskY and not Pechurski. Also according to Potash, equipment manager Dana Heinze had to scramble to get a uniform read for Pechursky who normally wears No. 70. The team couldn’t get a No. 70 jersey through customs and they essentially took an old jersey of goaltending prospect Brad Thiessen and slapped Pechursky’s name plate over the No. 40.”
Wait… you can’t get a hockey jersey through Canadian customs?!?!?
As a Purdue fan, I’ve hated the black-on-black jerseys ever since they were unveiled last spring. It’s abysmal.

YES! That DOES BOTHER ME!!! The Saints jerseys reaaalllllyyyy annoy me. Every time there’s a head shot on a Saints player, and you can see the yellow gold collar, I cringe a bit.

color (like gold/silver/yellow) versus color (dark blue/dark red/maroon) can look great
obvious examples include this, this and
thiser… this (and even that’s pushing it)solid reds and blues, like this, are NOT visually appealing…despite their apparent awesomeness
and while colorblindness may not affect most people (to what degree is debatable)…but this is what color on color looks like to a colorblind person
sorry, but this isn’t that enjoyable to look at
for color vs. color to REALLY BE GOOD, it must pass the ‘chromatic strength’ (i am not sure of the technical term, but it’s the difference in color hues such that in black and white, the color differences are still perceptible: this is good…so is this (here’s the litmus test)

I like the Cowboys re-do and thought they’d try something like this this past season, as they were moving into JerryWorld.
Jets one is a little too far out for my tastes but the creator but a lot of effort into it, obviously, and for that I applaud him. I certainly don’t have the chops to create a new design.

I agree. I have been kicking around doing my own tweak for the Cowboys, but there is no need now–Craig’s was exactly what I would have done. Dark blue, no black trim, no bluish-silver pants. Well done.

Good work Dane, I snapped a photo when they brought him in the game and sent to Paul and gave him the gist, but you got it verbatim….it was late and I didn’t have the energy to do that.
Did you also see them do the montage of Canucks’ jerseys through the years? Old hat to us uni fans but cool nonetheless.

i don’t usually subject you guys to MY uni tweaks, but i’ve done several for each nfl team…
including trying to “get” the cowboys just right
so, long as we’re on the subject, here’s one set, and here’s another

If this were a true litmus test, the results would be red OR blue, not red AND blue. Rather, I believe what you are describing is an acid test. On the other hand, I might be all confused and under the influence of the Arctic Oscillation Index.

Since it’s a NFL contest, my team is the Bears & I already think their uni is great the way it is. And IMO with football uniforms, less is more. I really don’t think I could design something that hasn’t already been worn sometime in the past 25 to 50 years.

I do agree that there needs to be a good contrast between the two colors for it to work. No one wants to see royal blue vs navy or red vs orange. But I don’t think your black & white picture is a valid test. Total color blindness to the point of seeing in shades of gray is extremely rare. The most common form is the inability to distinguish red & green. So the NBA’s Xmas day game might have been tough for some people – but red vs blue should generally work just fine.

To be fair, colorblindness isn\’t just grayscale or lack of color. Most colorblind people just can\’t see certain colors, usually reds or greens. I work with two colorblind people who cannot see green, makes me wonder how they drive a car safely! Now for the real reason I came here today…I saw an ad in the grocery store this morning to win a trip to Super Bowl XLV (no logo yet) next year. They are referring to this year\’s game as South Florida as well.
Damn you, The Jeff! I guess we were on similar wavelengths (shudder).
Also, what happened to my post? It got slashified.
Fun Fact: Approximately, only 9,200 Americans suffer from achromatopsia (absolute color blindness) although 8% of men in America suffer from some sort of colorblindness.
Also, dogs are not colorblind

Full disclosure: I have perfect color vision.
“Makes me wonder how they can drive a car safely!” Green is always on the bottom or right, and you can tell which light is on. (Ever wonder how seeing-eye dogs know when to lead their masters across the street?)
Colorblindness IS seeing in gray tones. Color impairment is more common, e.g.: having trouble distinguishing among red and green. And I think the gray tone test is perfectly valid. If the difference between the teams is obvious in gray tones, then whatever colors you can see will help make the difference even clearer. Besides, doesn’t Ricko still have a black and white set from his youth?
Julian Grant, I’m not an Eagles fan, but if they wore your unis, I’d dislike them a little less. Good job.
Craig Ackers, how ‘BOUT dem uni tweaks!
Bradley Griffin, YES!
V. Yacobellis…well…

you’re right, that wasn’t a valid statement i made
put my point is that different hues, if similar in “strength” (a solid red and a solid blue, for example) aren’t any more visually appealing to me than would be red versus white is to someone who wants color vs. color
a pastel, if you will, or a gold/yellow, versus a strong color (deep red, maroon, navy, etc.) would look great…even a powder blue versus a navy i think would work (and look) better than navy vs. red
but as far as the “b&w litmus test” i tried to describe, not valid…the various levels of monochromacy, dichromacy and anomalous trichromacy (degrees of color blindness) are not akin to a black and white photo and what a colorblind (of any level) person sees

Anybody know why the fake turf in domes (Superdome, Metrodome, St. Pete’s dome) looks so darn bad on TV? Ricko?
Anybody know why the fake turf in domes (Superdome, Metrodome, St. Pete’s dome) looks so darn bad on TV? Ricko?
I think it’s because there’s so much black in it due to it’s black rubber makeup. In the diffused lighting of a dome the green isn’t as brilliant as in sunlight, so the black shows more, giving it that mottled look.
That’d be my guess. When I play winter softball at a local high school’s dome-covered football field that same turf kinda looks like that. But in the summer when the sun hits the uncovered field it appears a much brighter green.

I live in Los Angeles and finally got around to visiting the Annenberg Space for Photography, which is exhibiting photos by the pre-eminent sports photographers, Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer. For anybody who has any interest in photography, sports, uniforms etc, this exhibit is absolutely breathtaking. There are some gorgeous old uniforms on display in these photgraphs, which go back to the 50s. Two of my favorites were a 1978 (I think) photo of the St. Louis Cardinals (baseball) in powder blue uniforms, and this gem:

I’m equally sorry, because the point (which I would have thought was obvious but for some misplaced estoerica; silly me) was that the first consideration is the playing of the game. Once that’s accounted for, all things are possible.
Now, for those in the camp of The Jeff, who once posted that “if a few more Carson Palmer interceptions” were the price to pay to see the orange-jerseyed Bengals play the black-clad Steelers it would be worth it, “fun to watch” evidently is most important.

That’s actually a white vs. white match-up that I would like to see. Hawks would have to wear their black helmets and the Wings would have to wear red. Wings would also have to wear their red socks.
Stacy’s day of uniwatching continues, “they really should have green pants for those white jerseys” in regards to the Jets. I told her they have them but they just aren’t using them today.
I’m not saying I agree with her, but I appreciate her noticing.
Just a couple of easy tweaks and those Jets unis would be glorious – extend the truncated shoulder stripes, extend the sleeves to make..uh..sleeves, change sock tops to green with white stripes. That is really about it. Oh, and get rid of ALL frontal jersey patches.
Thanks for the feedback.
I may apply my basic MS paint skills to other teams the next time I get “UNIRAGE ” as I am now calling it.
I’m sure everyone here gets that now and again.
That one split second when you see something a uniform that makes you say aloud
“they are wearing what! If I owned that team they would be wearing (fill this yourself) instead.”
All the best

I like the Hawks red jersey better than their white and I like the Red Wings white better than the red. I like all four. In fact when I brought a Chicago Black Hawks jersey to wear to Saginaw Hawks games, I got the red one. Just personal preference.
Wings in all red are so outrageously monochrome and so blindingly red, but so wonderfully old school, that I can’t help but like ’em.
Should everyone do such a thing? Jeez, no. But because the Wings have so unflinchingly kept to their look for so many years, it’s really kinda cool.
(Doesn’t mean I don’t like the whites).

I’m not saying I dislike any of the four. I just happen to think both teams’ white sweaters look a lot better than their red ones. All four of them are in my personal top 10. The white ones both make the top 5 whereas the reds are probably something like #8 and #10.

The Redwings uniform is one of my favorites The red looks great. But the whites are sharp too. I may even like the white better.
The Blackhawks is my other favorite hockey uniform.
Both of those teams home and away are probably my top 2
I know this takes a back seat to all the NFL watching going on today but did anyone see the G-town/Villanova game? Was Georgetown wearing black uniforms or was I have a color blind day? or maybe it was just anomolous trichromacy… I’m not sure.

And the team with the nicer unis won.
I’m pulling for the Jets to go all the way here. I don’t want Farve to win it, The saints are a divisional rival and I could honestly care less about the Colts.
Let’s see now…
Colts “sit one out” and Jets win.
In last two games, two of the most reliable NFL kickers miss a combined 5 field goal attempts. Jets win both games.
Isn’t this where the “It’s all fixed so a NY team lasts a long time in the playoffs” group starts yowling?

Women’s Professional Soccer unveiled the 2010 uniforms on Friday night.
Not many changes in terms of colors. However, the Los Angeles Sol will have a half-and-half jersey (kind of like Blackburn Rovers) that is half black and half yellow. The Washington Freedom’s home uniform adds some white pinstriping on the front.
The two new teams are the Atlanta Beat and Philadelphia Independence. The Beat are going to wear a sunflower yellow at home and bright red on the road. The Independence are going with pewter at home and bright yellow on the road.

Believe me, I don’t feel bad for a guy who makes $1.5 million to kick footballs around… but damn. I do kind of feel for the guy. To be a pro bowl kicker, and make that many consecutive kicks in a row, and then just blow it in the playoffs. Shades of Gary Anderson in ’98/’99 (kind of).

Inevitable uni-centric Jets playoff trivia:
7-6 in white helmets, 3-5 in green helmets.
3-4 in green jerseys, 7-7 in white jerseys.
9-8 in white pants, 1-3 in green pants.
1-1 wearing white jerseys at home, 0-2 wearing green jerseys on the road.
Combination (H/J/P) : Record

W/G/W : 3-1
W/W/G : 1-2
G/G/W : 0-3
