Boxing Day Uni Watch

boxing day

By Phil Hecken

The NBA took centerstage on Christmas Day, in what is becoming an annual holiday tradition. Like the previous year, teams were sporting a Star of David snowflake patch on their unis. The only problem with this is when home teams wore white, rendering the patch practically invisible.

* Not quite sure what kind of shirt George Lopez and his companion are wearing, but it must have something to do with Kobe. Anyone?

* The patch looked good on teams wearing dark colors, as it should. Didn’t the Cavs decline to wear the patch last year?

* Hey, there’s a second team in LA? Who knew?

* Why didn’t the Lakers wear gold? And there’s that Kobe thing again…Gotta have something to do with the Kobe & LeBron Nike Puppets, yes?

* Celtics rocked the patch pretty nicely — like the “christmassy” feel with the red headband and kicks on Rondo.

* What’s my name?

* Lots and lots of sneaker porn on display yesterday. D-Wade rocked it old school. I had a pair of those…in 1987.

* Seriously, WTF?

* Knicks and Heat had a red and green color-on-color game, in honor of Christmas. The Knicks (like all the other teams) had their patch on their left shoulder, but the Heat sported their snowflake on the right.

Not a bad effort by the NBA, assuming any of you saw the games. I realize a snowflake, pretty much by definition, is white, but perhaps the NBA might have considered, I don’t know, maybe putting an outline around those teams who put them on white uniforms. Just a thought for next year.

~~~
The NBA ruled the day, but they weren’t the only game in town yesterday — The Titans and Chargers, two of the AFL’s “original eight” franchises, staged a Christmas night battle, but neglected to wear their gorgeous respective throwbacks. Of course, since it was on the NFL Network, no one would have seen them anyway.
Instead, both teams wore their “normal” unis, and the result was a white helmeted, blue-leotarded mess. Yecch.
Fortunately, no college bowls were played yesterday, or I would have fallen even farther in the “bowl pool” than my already incredibly lame 1-6 record. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once a while.
~~~~~~~~~~

And now, a word from Paul:

Research Project: I’m compiling a list of the most unusual uni-related moments of the past decade. This can include typos, players wearing the wrong uni, teams being forced to improvise when their uniforms are lost or stolen, torn uniforms, broken equipment, etc. — anything out of the ordinary. I already have a pretty good list, but I’d welcome your nominations (esp. from earlier in the decade), so feel free to chime in. Thanks.

~~~~~~~~~~
The Hockey Wing, or at least the “President” of said wing, Teebz, reminds everyone that the World Junior Championships begin today. Teebz likes to rate uniforms on the “good or stupid” scale, only to him, it’s more like “dumb and dumber.” Here’s Teebz:
With the World Junior Championships beginning today — and Canada looking for its record sixth-straight gold medal — in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan, there are a few things that have changed in terms of the way the teams look.
If you’re looking for WJC information, the IIHF website has a ton of it. If you like hockey, this is one tournament that should never be missed. Especially with the 2011 Championship taking place in Buffalo, NY.
Here are some of the changes you may see this holiday season. Of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg, but these are the ones I have noticed already.
* TV numbers are now closer to the shoulder instead of the upper arm. While there was no reason to move the numbers, it appears that this was a move to ensure the same placement of all the numbers on TV. Except on Sweden who is wearing Reebok. Uniformity trumps tradition. I’d call this a wash in the “good vs. dumb” debate.
* Swedish players have their names across their lower back. This continues in the same fashion as it did last year, but I’m still not a fan of it. I’m not sure why Sweden is the only team that prefers their names under the numbers rather than over them, but they are the only team that to do this thus far. Dumb.
*Sweden has also been outfitted in Reebok which is nicely highlighted for your enjoyment. Any sane person would expect to see the Reebok vector on the back, but there’s no vector there like we find on NHL and AHL jerseys. Instead, Reebok decided to put it under the collar on the front. In a contrasting colour! If Reebok wants to be like Nike and have its logo on the front, it had better be discreet. Otherwise, Reebok is now saying that they are more important than the entire country of Sweden. Insanely stupid.
* Canada will wear green for one game instead of black. Canada’s alternate jersey was black, which I never liked, in keeping with Hockey Canada’s colours. This year, they have introduced a green alternate jersey as they play in Saskatchewan. The same colour green as the only professional team in Saskatchewan. I’m not calling this a “sell-out”, but it seems pretty darn close when you’re trying to sell jerseys to a football-loving, Roughrider-partisan crowd. Dumb.
We’ve got a name, and we’ve got a logo…. OK, after much deliberation and search, we’re proud to announce the official Uni Watch Deep Freeze, a big event coming up in just a few short weeks in Minnesota — centering around the 2010 U.S. Pond Hockey Championships — but which will include a bunch of sports and uni-related events for anyone who is interested. The event is taking place during January 22, 23 and 24, or 2010, and will include lots of activities for those who want to make the trek.
If you scroll down to the second section (“Uni Watch Winter Classic Advisory”), you’ll see all the details.
Paul will be there, I will be there, and we’re expecting many other UWers traveling from near and far, including, but not limited to: RPM, JTH, Teebz, Ricko, Ben Traxel and several others. Aside from all the activities listed in that link, Paul will be convening a gathering as well. If you’re interested in attending, contact Ricko (his contact info is in the linkie), since those coming in from out of town may want to book a block of rooms at a reduced rate near all the activities.
And who designed the Uni Watch Deep Freeze logo you see here? None other than Ben Traxel, who’ll be attending the festivities. Fantastic job, Ben!
nfl uni tweaks
Our next round of NFL uniform tweaks/revisions and concepts is upon us.
~~~

Starting off the show today is Scott Hogan, who offers
some thoughts on the Vikings:

I’ve been and will be a lifelong Vikings fan. Excuse
the MS Paint work
, I just gave the Vikings the reversal look that the Broncos, Panthers, Falcons and numerous more have. I don’t mind the gold if it can be more gold and less bright yellow. Plus I think the purple would look good in the piping. I even played with reversing the road whites. Love Uni Watch and would buy me a membership card if Paul would make it for the Vikings road unis. But I guess that’s too much purple…? I’d settle for a reddish blue.

~~~
Next up is Kenny Jacobson, who feels the Bengals, Seahawks and Ravens can all use an overhaul:
Phil,
Since I’m sure you don’t have enough to do… I’ve done some uni updates for you.
Cincy needs new duds, of course, so here’s home and road. And if you want to get really adventurous, home and road.
Seattle needs to go back to these colors, home and road. If you wanted to stick with a more modern template, maybe home and road.
Baltimore needs to get away from the ‘Darth Vader’ look and make better use of that gold in their trim, like home and road.
That’s all for now. Have an exceptional day.
-Kenny Jacobson
~~~

Interestingly enough, our next submitter, Justin Wang also has some thoughts on Cincinnati’s football team:

I decided to redesign the Bengals unis, as they are generally regarded as one of the worst in the NFL.

A few notes:
1. The shoulder panels were inspired by the Seahawks’ away unis.
2. Sock stripes match the shoulder stripes.
3. Took out the “B” chest logo.

– Justin

~~~
Our next tweak comes from Sam Belk, who has some throwback Buccaneer looks:
Alright, alright, I know what people see when they think of Tampa’s unis, Creamcicle. But as a Bucs fan, since half our wins this year came in the delicious uniforms, I’ve got to love them (alright, I admit, I already did).
I’ve created an alternate for the bucs that mixes the old with the new.
From the new, I’ve kept the number script, the numbers on the shoulders, the ‘Buccaneers’ script on the chest and the alternate logo on the sleeves. The jersey is actually a darker orange if you can notice it, it is from the football on the current logo.
From the old, The pants are essentially the same, though I widened the stripes and added some color to the belt, and I modernized the stripes on the socks.
The helmet has the orange facemask and white helmet color but retains the current helmet logo. There is also an alternate helmet I’ve designed for the sole reason that I am jealous of the Chargers’ alternate with the lightning bolt/player number combo. It’s the swords from the logo with the players’ number over top.
Thanks for reading, this is my first attempt even at working with image software beyond MS Paint and definitely my first stab at a jersey, but can’t you see these running onto the new sombrero next year?
Sam B.
~~~

And our final uniform revision today comes from Walter Young, who last weekend tweaked the Jets, and who wanted to follow that up with this:

OK, watching the Cardinals/San Fransisco Monday night game and came up with a fast tweak for the Kurt Warner Cardinals helmet logo. All in good fun.

I’d like to thank everyone for their comments on my four “modernized” Jets uni-tweaks that posted on Saturday (12/19/09). My concepts were not my desired direction that the Jets uniforms should take. They were just a possible direction given current trends, while maintaining some semblance Jets “style”.

When I sent my tweaks I neglected to send in this Logo tweak. It is intended to, at the same time, pay homage to the Jets Kelly Green past, and give the “NY” more prominence, while not minimizing the “JETS” in the logo.

Since my initial uni-tweak submission I decided to stay more within the current Jets uniform framework, and address the shoulder loop segments, along with tendency to diverge into the world of monochrome.

The simplest way to address the monochrome tendency was to go with a pair of pants that is neither Green, nor White. I chose to avoid bright colors like Gold or Yellow, or the typical Grey or Silver (kind of been done already). I chose to lean toward the “Tan” colors. While not a traditional Jets color range, it is an old school football color. I came up with two choices, a sort of Olive/Khaki, and a medium Tan. To me, both seem to work well with the Jets Green and White.

Since the Jets shoulder loops have begun to look more like epaulets, I decide to remove them. I also chose to borrow from Ricko’s “comp sleeves” concept, with a  ½ to full-length sleeve compression shirt. While it may not exactly match the Jets earlier sleeve designs, I feel it is fairly representative the of the look.

I worked up uniform sets in the Jets current Hunter/Forest Green (it really is closer to Hunter than Forest ) with either Olive/Khaki, or Tan pants. Since it didn’t require much effort I did the same in the Jets old Kelly Green. All of the striping: helmet, comp-sleeve, pant leg, and sock, are proportional. I did away with the current contrasting sleeve cuff, since it tends to disappear nearly 50% of the time. I included the alternative comp-sleeve in each mock-up, given that if you put something in the toy chest, the equipment manager is going to play with it.

I can’t forget to mention Chris Creamers SportLogos.Net, whose templates I used for my tweaks.

Walt

~~~
Ok, this is all for today’s round. Still have a few more to get to, and there are always new ones coming in. If you have a tweak/suggestion/revamp/whatever, send them to me. Cheers.
~~~~~~~~~~

I’ve still yet to speak with Coach Marc Walls, the man who brought to us the “Design A Uniform” contest for the Clarksville Wildcats, but I do have the results of the “Reader Poll” in which many of you voted for your favorite design in the categories of “best uniform” and “best logo”.

Here then, are those results (big thanks to James Huening for compiling them and running the poll):

Whose uniform design do you think is the best?

Ryan Muraro…241 votes…43.35%
Jeff Bahry…142…25.54%
Joe Hilseberg…76…13.67%
Andy Altemus…52…9.35%
Steve Lastname…45…8.09%

Whose individual logo design do you think is the best?

Jeff Bahry…197 votes…35.43%
Chad Stilson…140…25.18%
Ed Westfield…111…19.96%
Kevin Connolly…72…12.95%
Thomas Stafford…36…6.47%

My thanks, once again, to everyone who participated, to everyone who voted, and especially to Coach Walls for coming up with the idea.

~~~~~~~~~~
Well, there you have it. A Boxing Day Uni Watch. I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas had a wonderful day, hopefully with family and/or friends. Santa didn’t bring me much in the “uni” department, but that’s OK, because I got to spend another Christmas with my pop, who a year ago at this time, wasn’t doing particularly well in the health department (he was recovering in a nursing home/rehab facility after a particularly bad struggle with west nile virus — a disease which can be fatal). He’s still not anywhere near where he once was (health-wise), but just having him “at home” for one more Christmas was the best present I could ever get. Love ya, pop. Just remember, the greatest presents we can receive are not those found beneath the tree.
I did get a pretty sweet cardigan I plan to use for curling (or maybe for sitting around and screaming “GET OFF MY LAWN” in). Either way, it’ll get some good use.
Everyone have a fantastic day!
    Phil:
    George Lopez’s t-shirt… it’s just a hand signal spelling out “LA”, no?
    Nick Ruggeri, NYC
    I just don’t get the NBA…I understand the X-Mas colored shoes but make the uni/shoes match. Lebron looks god-aweful with those shoes on, looks like someone puked on his feet. And the Knicks??? Are you kidding me? What is that the St. Pats/X-Mas uni? Just a rant on a sport I can’t watch cause I’m a Nets fan…hahahahaha
    I like the Cardinal’s helmets just as they are. (Even with the more aggressive tweak made a few years ago.) That said, Mr. Young’s suggestion is just too cool.
    Cool link to the History of Indiana High School Basketball….. 100 years in 100 days started on 12/18.
    Look for cool pictures of Glenn Robinson, Rick Mount, Billy Keller, John Wooden, Oscar Robertson, and of course the 1953 champion Milan Indians (more commonly known as Hickory Huskers)
    The Knicks need to never wear green again. That was just ugly and wrong.
    If the NBA wants to start a red vs green on Xmas tradition, great – Bulls vs Celtics. Alternate home cities each year and let that become the traditional Xmas day game.
    Did the NFL have a reason for stopping the AFL uniform program before December? I was thinking there might have been some marketing/ branding rationale, such as that the league wanted its teams to be wearing their regular uniforms as the season wound down.
    I’d say that’s an entirely reasonable supposition.
    Double standard?
    We get all over college and pro football players for doing Look At Me things with their unis…
    …yet such “personalizing” seems to run rampant in the NBA (not just for the Christmas Day games) but “Look At Me” never gets said.
    —Ricko
    One more thing I don’t understand…
    Wouldn’t you think that yesterday the Titans, knowing what the Chargers would be wearing, would have gone with the powder pants, too…just to create total visual separation from the opponent?
    Not to mention it just would have made the game LOOK a helluva lot better.
    But it’s December, time to look tough and all business, I suppose.
    Well, the NBA is much more of an individual sport. You can still win games with 11 half-decent players and one Superstar Player in the NBA. Not so much in football.
    The look-at-me factor in the NBA is almost league mandated.
    I heard on Sportscenter Friday morning that all of the folks with floor seats at the Lakers game were being given free pairs of the new Kobe shoes that were being introduced yesterday, so I’d assume that the shirts, etc were also promotional items.
    It could be the Green is meant to honor Saskatchewan, for both teams, considering the Flag of Saskatchewan: link
    Nota bene: I remember the Cavs’ snowflake fiasco last year. The flakes were installed on the red jerseys and ready to go, but were jettisoned at the last minute by LeBron. LeBron got his special Christmas shoes, and they matched the alternate navy jerseys better. So LeBron had his team, the LeBrons, wear the navy jerseys instead, which obviously were not equipped with the snowflakes. Nothing against the snowflakes, but the equipment managers clearly prepared the wrong jerseys for LeBron’s shoes.
    Insert “look-at-me” eyeroll here.
    That Cardinal helmet tweak, (very cool, by the way), reminds me of one of my favorite trivia questions. And it goes something like this.
    Q – The plaques in Yankee Stadium’s Monument Park honor great former Yankees, Jackie Robinson and three former Cardinals. Name the former Cardinals.
    A – Paul VI, John Paul II & Benedict XVI.
    Colonel Potter wore a Toledo Mud Hens hat and jersey one Boxing Day.
    One of the most important uni objectives to me is stripe consistency. Tweakers?
    George Lopez and friend were wearing the brand new Nike Air Zoom Kobe V shoes that debuted on Christmas. Lebron also wore a special edition of the ir Max Lebron VII:
    That’s why Potter wore it. It was Boxing Day. He was the company clerk and Max Klinger was Head Honcho.
    Day after Christmas – just sitting here wondering how Ohio and Marshall will sort out their greens in the Pizza-Pizza Bowl
    Look closely at Marshall’s helmets to see if they are doing the “two shades of green” on purpose that some had suggested for the J-E-T-S
    The green is much darker. And if you’re honouring the flag, the inclusion of yellow should be a no-brainer. The green-and-white colours are Roughrider colours.
    Rondo only wore red shoes in the second half. I was watching highlights and he was wearing white shoes in the first half.
    No hate for basketball here – some of the Unis in play in the NBA are as good as ever. Some others are pretty sucky. As a game, I prefer the college version, but I am mostly not thrilled with the general direction of the unis. The system of dress boxy looking high neck trimless,sleeveless shirts have largely replaced the classic tank top with trim. Creative and classy wordmarks, traditional verticle arched letters and other nice touches are being replaced with minimalist letters in a straight line…
    As the season probresses, if I see a nice design – I’ll make a note of it on Uni-Watch.
    Another thing – During the NBA’s hype heyday, the NBC years of the 90s, their were some breathtaking highlights from #23 of Chicago. But when Jordan wasn’t playing we would get breathless, over the top promos of the Knicks versus the Heat. Loud-ass music was taking over the arenas, louder during timeouts – Gary Glitter and all the other inane arena hits. Told all week that I must tune in to the Knicks-Heat on Sunday, I would tune in and find the game downright unwatchable. Final score 83-78. Every week. Nobody could shoot, the physical stuff was out of hand. The big strategy seemed to be the clear-out: taking advantage of the no-zone rules to create a game of two on two at each end. Hated it.
    The ‘snowflake’ patch in those pics doesn’t look anything like a snowflake when viewed from more that a couple of feet away. Very stupid. Then again it’s the NBA.
    As for Mr. Jacobson Seahawks overhaul: I am happily please with the modern home version. The lighter blue looks a little Titans-ish, but I like. The helmet logo could be larger, like the logo addition to the pants and I will always support bringing back the silver helmet pants. Good job!
    Ohio had to do it. Had to go green over green. At least they are wearing white socks with stripes. A double white stripe on the pants would have been even mo’ better.
    Marshall-Ohio in the Green Bowl right now. expect Greenday will entertain at halftime.
    and in a logo on the field comment the Lil Caesars logo is ENORMOUS.
    and a coach is wearing a Pepsi logo on his headset. does Pepsi make headsets? not sure I’ve seen that before.
    Ah, back to my stupid idea from last year. Everyone in the stands wear green, too. Call it a “Greenspan”.
    —Ricko
    As for Walter Young’s latest Jets tweaks – great concept introducing a neutral/natural colored football pants look. It’s old-school, but new and different all the same.
    I like Harvard’s tan pants. I also noticed that Montana wears a real subtle off-white gray (even though they have silver helmets) that looks goodhttp://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0dKVas7dpL5lP/340x.jpg
    As far as I’m concerned, the Seahawks could just go back to silver helmets and pants—home and road—leaving everything else the same as is now, and that would be a pretty classy (and not quite so somber) uniform.
    Neon jerseys would probably disappear. Just wouldn’t work so well with silver hats and pants.
    I liked his Jets’ stuff, too, except for the additional color pants. As we discussed this week, only four teams in NHL, NFL and NBA still wear one-color-and-white (Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Colts and Jets). Would be a shame to lose one of them just for the heck of it. That kind of traditional uniqueness kinda deserves being preserved.
    Let’s put that color scheme on Philadelphia. I’m guessing the Iggles wore some kind of natural colored pants back in the pre-Van Buren days. Anything to get them way from that shade of green and the black they wear now.
    No hate for basketball here – some of the Unis in play in the NBA are as good as ever. Some others are pretty sucky. As a game, I prefer the college version, but I am mostly not thrilled with the general direction of the unis. The system of dress boxy looking high neck trimless,sleeveless shirts have largely replaced the classic tank top with trim. Creative and classy wordmarks, traditional verticle arched letters and other nice touches are being replaced with minimalist letters in a straight line…
    anyone else see the Little Caesars Bowl on ESPN? Marshall v Ohio, so there’s a lot of green on the field in a pretty good lookin’ match-up, but the interesting thing is the giant orange Little Caesars logo on the midfield and in the endzone. I know we’ve seen ads for bowl games fields before, but it’s getting out of hand in my opinion.
    But I do crave some pizza now..
    I like Harvard’s tan pants. I also noticed that Montana wears a real subtle off-white gray (even though they have silver helmets) that looks goodhttp://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0dKVas7dpL5lP/340x.jpg
I liked his Jets’ stuff, too, except for the additional color pants. As we discussed this week, only four teams in NHL, NFL and NBA still wear one-color-and-white (Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Colts and Jets). Would be a shame to lose one of them just for the heck of it. That kind of traditional uniqueness kinda deserves being preserved.
    I fully expected you to have a problem with the addition of third color pants, and I understand your point.
    My biggest problem with the “all white” Jets is that the white has become such a bright white. When combined with the newer sateen fabrics it just produces an unappealingly glaring contrast to the field surface. I mean the Jets uniforms are now a brighter white than their helmets. It would be nice to see a downgrade from the “150 watt” unis to a more pleasant 60 watt matte uni.
    I am taking it as a compliment that you didn’t object to the deletion of the shoulder loops. The “comp’sleeves” must have appeased you.
    Well, there’s keeping the essence of what a team wears and working inside it, and there’s trashing everything and starting over. The former has about 10 pounds more reality than the 3 oz. of latter.
    Besides, you never get very far walking in a company/team and saying, “First thing we need to do is get rid of your current logo/uniform.” Figuratively speaking, might as well pull out a shotgun and draw a bead on your foot.
    Another thing – During the NBA’s hype heyday, the NBC years of the 90s, their were some breathtaking highlights from #23 of Chicago. But when Jordan wasn’t playing we would get breathless, over the top promos of the Knicks versus the Heat. Loud-ass music was taking over the arenas, louder during timeouts – Gary Glitter and all the other inane arena hits. Told all week that I must tune in to the Knicks-Heat on Sunday, I would tune in and find the game downright unwatchable. Final score 83-78. Every week. Nobody could shoot, the physical stuff was out of hand. The big strategy seemed to be the clear-out: taking advantage of the no-zone rules to create a game of two on two at each end. Hated it.
Well said.
    From the late 70s to the early 80s, the NBA was my 2nd favorite league. Great stuff. Once David Stern and The Jordan Rules took over, though, I slowly but steadily lost interest. Today I’d much rather watch college basketball (unless both teams are wearing SoD unis).
    Three quick fixes to help save the NBA:
    1) Bring back the run&gun offense the Nuggets ran in the 80s.
    2) Bring back the Nuggets rainbow unis: link
    3) Bring back the Rockets ketchup&mustard unis: link
    I’d like to see the Cavs throwback as well, but I can handle the new unis.
    Got me something cool for Christmas: link
    I could have asked for one of the college versions link but I think I’ll be DIYing some USFL teams.
    They also make baseball, soccer and hockey versions, too.
    I believe last year, the Cavs were supposed to wear white at home against the Wizards, who were to wear their road blues. Both these jerseys would have had the snowflake on it. However, at the last minute, LeBron made the push to get the Cavs to wear their alt blues instead, since he wanted to debut his blue colorway sneakers on Xmas. As a result, the Cavs wore blue and the Wizards wore white, and neither had the snowflake on it as a result.
    The t-shirt George Lopez was wearing is from those sneaker ads with the Kobe & LeBron puppets. It’s the Kobe puppet making the hand gestures spelling “LA”.
    Yes – both teams dressed in Football Uniforms !!
    No clown suits – not much to dislike here.
    And yes, they have George Foreman and his boys George, George, George et al look over your exhaust system while you watch the game.
    Something needs to be done about bowl patches and their placement on uniforms, esp. after watching the Ohio vs. Marshall game. Any football uni with piping/trim leaves virtually no sensible space for them. Although I did appreciate Fresno State placing their patch on their upper back, since they go without NOB. This would have been another great option for Nevada in the Hawaii Bowl. I am sure we will see more patches interupting uni designs in upcoming bowl games.
    About the Ravens tweak, um, NO WAY! Ravens (the birds) are black. The team shouldn’t move away from black. Although I think stripes rather then 2 additional logos might simplify the uni, they shouldn’t move away from black. And the purple looked too blue, just like the knockoff jerseys you sometimes see around M&T.
    Gotta agree on this one. Let the Ravens go all black.
    As for the other tweaks, I like Scott’s idea of using gold for the Vikes, but I’d switch the helmet and jersey colors.
    I like all the other ideas, although I’d rather see tan pants on a team that wears dark helmets.
    Good stuff, guys.
    Red Wings’ broadcast just had a short clip from the pre-game warm-up that showed Derek Meech came out in his road red helmet and didn’t realize it for quite some time. He changed helmets about halfway though. Have to see if I can find a photo…red helmets with the home whites might not look too shabby.
    Yes, Jamie Farr (actor who played Klinger) is a Toledo, OH native, hence the Mudhens reference.
The system of dress boxy looking high neck trimless,sleeveless shirts have largely replaced the classic tank top with trim. Creative and classy wordmarks, traditional verticle arched letters and other nice touches are being replaced with minimalist letters in a straight line…
    As the season probresses, if I see a nice design – I’ll make a note of it on Uni-Watch.
im maybe one of the few who LOVES the SOD’s…from the link
    clean, crisp, minimalist…damn near perfect
    but then…link
    bloomers, high socks…seriously, there’s enough material in the shorts alone to make a full size uni link…not that that’s saying much
One of the few that LOVES them from the waist up??? By few do you mean practically everyone? I haven’t found anyone that didn’t like the clean crisp look of the jerseys. But then the shorts….
I don’t like either the tops or the shorts. The tops are too clean, too crisp…I’m calling it sanitized and sterile.
    Just give me this: link
    They also make baseball, soccer and hockey versions, too.
Too bad the PSU guys weren’t made all white… that would have been a hoot!
If you get the Penn State set, you get an all-white vs. blue-over-white matchup.
that question was actually answered link
    it’s a good thing that question was posed here because if you google for it, link
I didn’t learn anything about Nevada helmets but I seem to have been invited to a pool party in Las Vegas. Sweet!
    To the guy who made the re-designed Ravens unis: you probably don’t realize it since it’s the CFL, but those Ravens uniforms you made are pretty much a carbon copy of the uniforms of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Bombers have a bit more gold and maybe a shade darker blue, but aside from that and the Ravens logo it’s the same. They are pretty sick unis though, whichever team is wearing them.
    This are awesome! Only missing a octogenarian coach in black spotbilts and black thick glasses!
    Re: Team Canada’s Green Jerseys
    When the Regina Rugby Club became the Roughriders, they chose red and black for their uniform colours — which makes sense whether you believe the inspiration of the team name to be the North West Mounted Police or Roosevelt’s Spanish-American war regiment. It was only in 1948 that the Roughriders adopted the green and white, and only then because of the availability of cheap surplus uniforms in Chicago. The green of the Riders has absolutely nothing to do with the Saskatchewan flag.
    Since then, however, green and white (and sometimes black or gold) have become the de facto colours of Saskatchewan sport, including link link link and link link.
    So, it is not unreasonable to suggest that the green and white jerseys are a tribute to Saskatchewan, not necessarily the Riders. The cynics among us, however, know that they are really in tribute to the Roughriders’ link (tl;dw the Roughriders sell the third-most jerseys of any [Reebok branded] sports team in Canada — more than the Flames and Oilers combined!).
