Robert Edward’s spring auction gets underway this Wednesday, and there’s a lot of cool stuff on the block. Let’s take a look:
• I love these little die-cut player images. And look at all those mustaches! (Here’s the full auction listing and additional photos.)
• These full-figure die-cuts are even better (full listing).
• Totally digging this Christy Mathewson postcard (full listing).
• Always loved these “big head” cards (full listing).
• Leave it to Swift Meats to sponsor a series of cards showing disassembled players, sort of like a butcher shop version of a standard baseball card (full listing).
• As many of you are aware, Shoeless Joe Jackson spent his latter years running a liquor store (full listing). Note that the shelf pricing is pretty much the same as shown in that grocery signage catalog I recently wrote about.
• Hard to beat this Globetrotters design, complete with a globe on the back (full listing).
• I’d give anything to see the Knicks wear this design as a throwback, complete with the shorts. Speaking of which, the shorts have an odd vertically aligned tagging format — not sure I’ve seen that before (full listing).
• Love this collection of Mickey Mantle World Series HR ticket stubs (full listing).
• I may have to bid on this Louisville Slugger bat poster (full listing).
• Yowza! That was worn during a 1924 World Tour by the White Sox. That stars/stripes cadet collar is the coolest (full listing).
• Such an underrated uni design (full listing).
• I’d love to see the jersey shown on this football card (full listing).
• Very odd typography on this sweatshirt. Note that the arch isn’t centered — it peaks off to the right side, sort of like the first incline on a roller coaster (full listing).
There’s plenty more where that stuff came from — very nice auction. Enjoy.
Uni Watch News Ticker: A big, long hug to the city of Binghamton, where I lived from 1982-87. For two of those years, my address was 151 Oak St. — right around the corner from the site of Friday’s shootings. ”¦ Think you know team colors? You might change your tune after seeing this (great find by Justine DeCotis). ”¦ Also from Justine: Sensational article about baseball caps here — highly recommended. ”¦ Patrick Runge, who collects Super Bowl patches, notes that the SB XLIII patch package shows the old Cardinals helmet logo. ”¦ Cool blog devoted to vintage clothing styles here (with thanks to Mike Hersh). ”¦ Also from Mike: Check out the amazing prices in this old Manny’s Baseball Land ad. Several other old Manny’s ads are shown here. ”¦ As had been rumored, the A’s are definitely going to wear a memorial patch for the slain Oakland police officers. The patch won’t be worn until the team’s home opener on April 10th. No artwork yet. ”¦ Here’s the latest on the Tropicana redesign (with thanks to the other Foreword, Liz Clayton). ”¦ Good article here about Carolina blue (with thanks to Denis Kirstein). ”¦ Underbill update (courtesy of Allison Kleiber). ”¦ Yo, Doug Mientkiewicz — your sock laundry tags are showing (photos taken by Matt Ryburn). ”¦ Go to this page and search on “all Royals players are required” — the next three grafs from that point tell a really interesting story about Royals pitcher Chris Hayes and his pants/stirrups stylings (big thanks to Matt Brown). ”¦ Eeeeeyikes! (Bizarre find by Adam Brodsky.) ”¦ What’s up with that jersey in the background of this shot? (As spotted by Gyula Németh.) ”¦ I’d seen template illustrations of this 1934 Reds design, with the team name on the sleeve of the road jersey, but until now I’d never seen a photo of it. Dave Eskenazi provided that one; when I showed it to Todd Radom, he sent along these. ”¦ The Mets wore black sleeves, socks, and caps for their Friday and Saturday exhibition games. Normally that would mean black gear for their catchers, but Brian Schneider and Ramon Castro both wore blue. Not sure if this means they’ve be wearing blue for all games this season, but here’s hoping. ”¦ More Mets news: For the past two seasons, David Wright has gone high-cuffed for day games, but not on Saturday. ”¦ As some of you are aware, I’ll soon have a new boss at Page 2. I have no idea what, if anything, this will mean for Uni Watch, but I’m under contract for another year, so I don’t anticipate any major changes. ”¦ A sports blog conference/panel thingie, with a really unfortunate name, is scheduled for June 13th in Manhattan. Tickets are pricey, so I don’t anticipate attending unless they invite me to be a panelist. ”¦ Not sure I’ve ever seen this type of softball mask on a shortstop before (with thanks to Anthony Labugenz). ”¦ Saturday’s Royals/Rangers exhibition game found both teams wearing royal blue jerseys and royal blue caps. “Really aggravating to everybody in our section,” says Glenn Stern, who attended the game. “You had to really look to see when men were on base, trying to distinguish runners from fielders and base coaches, etc. It was the only negative in an otherwise great day.” ”¦ Also from Glenn: Fun article about basketball shorts here. ”¦ Judging by this item, it looks like the Reds will be wearing 1964 throwbacks for the Civil Rights Game in June (good find by Shea McMahon). ”¦ Odd scene for the Padres on Saturday, as they had two players on the field wearing No. 81 at the same time (with thanks to Alan Borock). ”¦ Les Motherby has stumbled upon this site, which is devoted to the typography of uni numbers applied to jerseys in the EPL, the Euro 2008 tournament, and the 2004 Olympics. ”¦ The DIY phenomenon has apparently spread to eBay (with thanks to Mark Kluczynski). ”¦ “In the Philly area, they have commemorative ‘Phillies World Champions’ Pepsi cans,” writes Dave Treston. “It’s the new Pepsi can, but the promo was obviously designed for the old cans, considering the lighter blue color and the old Pepsi logo. It’s interesting to see the (unintentional) juxtaposition of the old and new Pepsi logos.” ”¦ Kyle Orton will be wearing No. 8 with the Broncos, since 18 is retired for Frank Tripucka (with thanks Harvey Lee). ”¦ As many of you are aware, Ty Lawson briefly changed uni numbers on Saturday. Anyone get a screen shot? ”¦ New junior welterweight champ Tim Bradley wore Habs-inspired trunks on Saturday night. Here’s a closer look. ”¦ Here’s a great find: a vintage New Zealand netball team portrait (big thanks to Ryab Dooley). ”¦ Someone posted this photo in the comments last week. That’s basically how I looked on Thursday, when I received a shipment of spectacular smoked boudin from reader Clay Marbry in Louisiana (except I wasn’t wearing a uniform). Thanks, buddy! … The Braves plan to retire Greg Maddux’s number this summer. Toss in this news item from a few weeks back and you’ve got Maddux having his number retired by two teams in 10 weeks. Has that ever happened before? ”¦ The Mets held a public workout at their new stadium yesterday, and Alan Tompas was on hand to take a shitload of photos. Among the more interesting tidbits: The Pepsi clowns are wearing the pizza patch; players were wearing the new cap patch; someone — I think Luis Castillo — has a new glove with blue webbing; and can someone please explain why Omar Minaya chose to wear a red Mets cap? ”¦ Alan also took a ton of pics at Saturday’s Yanks/Cubs exhibition game. ”¦ Majestic is opening its first retail store, directly across the street from Fenway Park. So now fans will be able to buy, uh, all the same crap they can buy at every other sports-oriented retail shop. ”¦ Great footage of Hank Aaron and Sadaharu Oh facing off in a home run derby. “Hammerin’ Hank is sporting a Braves jersey he never wore as a player,” notes N. Prinze. “He’s wearing the full home jersey that was introduced in 1981 — five years after his retirement.” ”¦ The Reds have a new scoreboard. ”¦ Guess who contributed this: “For the first time that I know of, a team in the Korean Baseball Organization — the Hanwha Eagles — is using the Western alphabet, instead of Hangeul, for their nameplates.” If you guessed Jeremy Brahm, you’re wrong! This one came from Dan Kurtz, who adds: “As a huge fan of the KBO, I’m a bit sad that they went this way. I hope it’s only a one-year deal and that other teams don’t start doing this. That’s what has always made owning a KBO jersey great –the player names are still written in Korean even though the team name isn’t.” … Great article on the history of Fordham baseball here. Sixth graf mentions that this year’s squad will be wearing a “150 Years” patch. No photo of the patch, alas, but it will presumably be based on this, which Paul Wiederecht found in the team’s media guide. … The Phillies’ gold-trimmed uniforms looked nice enough. And hey, look — Philllies! Also of note: The Braves debuted their solid navy batting helmets, and the field had that stupid Opening Day logo, which shouldn’t be allowed for night games (and is unnecessary anyway). Probably be seeing a lot more of that today. … Speaking of which: As WFMU DJ Bill Kelly said on the air yesterday, “There are only three days of the year that matter — Christmas, my birthday, and Opening Day of the baseball season.” So enjoy the ballgames and, if you’re attending one of them, stay warm.
Maybe the Mets GM was hoping for the practice QB effect, no one would throw a tough question at him so he wouldn’t get hurt.
Josh and Tom from the Rangers TV broadcast mentioned both them teams wearing blue it was close to Josh saying, “We won’t go into a pet peeve of Tom’s today…” Then Tom, “Yeah, both teams wearing the same color, but it’s still preseason, and it’s a beautiful day, so I’ll let it slide.”
Texas Rangers going with red today and they want the fans to also wear lots of red to the park. Alt jersys really shouldn’t be worn on Opening Day, but somehow it’s fitting that the Rangers would do this sort of nonsense.
The Rams franchise won their 500th NFL game in 2007, so that’s my guess for the “Rams 500” jersey mentioned in the ticker.

Ugh. I am going to this game, and knowing that the stRangers will be wearing alts on Opening Day has deflated my enthusiasm somewhat.
The burgundy/gold suggested in a prev posting for the Angels is a prime example of an excellent idea. That Royals v.Rangers game is what grinds me most about the lack of imagination in most MLB uni color schemes: blue w/uh um—more blue + black for thug sales. The Royals have an excuse—that is royal blue. But the Rangers? get some creativity. Yet another thing I blame on Bud Boring’s reign of mediocrity.
BTW I’d like to comment on that ” pizza ” patch issue. It is obviously in the shape of a game ticket. To compare it to the pizza franchise logo, is just being glib. The only similarity is it’s a quadrangular shape & not even the same one. In this instance, I think those who were quick to criticize were/are shortsighted. The same people turned around and nailed the NYY for the cap/frieze patch. Two Bronx cheers. . ..
BTW I’d like to comment on that ” pizza ” patch issue. It is obviously in the shape of a game ticket.
Actually, if you look at the length/width ratio, it is obviously in the shape of a credit card. I’ve been using “pizza patch” as a quick shorthand, but I agree it’s not the best term. So from now on I’ll just call it “the patch that totally sucks.”
There, is that better?

Work’s for me
Minaya’s wearing the red cap to horn in on the Phillies championship. If ya can’t beat ’em, join ’em. (Opening Night excluded. Yeeesh.)
Maybe it was my eyes deceiving me, or maybe it was me basking in the success of my 2008 Phillies… but did it appear to anyone else that the NOB’s were easier to read? Perhaps the spacing was a little wider? Or was the gold trim causing some sort of extra clarity?
Does that Super Bowl XLIII patch also have the old NFL logo on the bottom left?
Nah, it’s the new one. My bad.

A few weeks ago Paul had some talk about “World Champions” across the front of a team or two way back when. Just remembered this baseball card for you Phillies fans. Almost looks like a Manny Trillo DIY project…..
Whether or not you think maroon and gold for the Angels is a good idea (personally, I don’t), it won’t happen. The Angels say that red was the late Gene Autry’s favorite color. More relevantly, they use red (to contrast with Dodger blue) as a basis for their long-term strategy to try and supplant the Dodgers as “Los Angeles’s team.”.
Anyone else find it odd that Doug Mientkiewicz is wearing # 76? He sin’t listed on the Royals roster, so chances are he was a non-roster invitee to camp and didn’t make the team, but it is strange to see veterans wearing high numbers like that in spring training.
The red Mets cap Omar is wearing is the same cap the Citi Field staff will be wearing this year. On the back of that hat it says ‘Citi Field Inaugural Season’ or something to that effect. It’s all part of the Mets Citi Field color scheme of red, blue and green (for the bricks, steelwork and seats respectively). All the staff were wearing jackets in these colors; Red for security guards and green for ushers. The section markers were also followed this theme. I am looking for the article I read to provide proof of this Citi Field color concept, but I can’t find it. You’ll just have to trust me on this.
The hat article was interesting.
Nixon wants his hat broken in. He works at it and gets it just right.
Twins ’47 goes out and designs the “Franchise hat” so you don’t have to go through all that work.
I hate the distressed look hats sold today complete with brims worn through. I like a hat that shows all the honest stains and wear. Posers wear those preworn caps.
The gallery of pictures was kind of humerous.
“I like wearing a spring training cap around and having people think I went down to spring training. The hat represents a new beginning and hope for the new season. Also, I designed this cap and it is cool to design something that is being sold in Fort Myers.”
Another poser. I personally like to wear shirts and hats from places I have been, events I have participated in… I do not like the generic crap that is sold and worn as if someone was actually there.
the red cap minya was wearing was the security guard cap that all citi field security wear…they wear red, so that fans can distinguish them from other fans. Other staff colors are Black and Green.
now as to why minya decided to wear that one, is beyond me.
The two padres #81s have NOB/NNOB mismatch. Is that normal for the pre-season?
The solid blue Braves batting helmet is F-R-E-S-H. Go Braves!

a) He wanted to look like a studly security guard? Cuz, y’know, they make the big bucks and get all the chicks. Really, they do, I watched the LOONEY TUNES MOVIE with my son over the weekend, and Brandon Fraser got Jenna Elfman. Movies don’t lie.
b) He realized he didn’t have a hat and borrowed one from the security guard standing nearby?
I’m sure the explanation couldn’t possibly be anything a simple as “b”, though. What fun would there be in that?
With the Korean lettering (Hangeul), on the uniforms, the K-League the soccer league there also
uses it on their uniforms, but for those teams playing in the AFC Champions League, they switch to romanization because everyone has to have the player names romanized.
But in Taiwan and China, I’ve seen that the player names are written in pictographs even the foreigners.

Regarding the softball shortstop and the wearing of the mask…I doubt it’s an everyday thing. More than likely protecting a broken jaw, or some other facial injury. I’m sure nobody would willingly wear one without good reasoning, as I’m positive it would be somewhat of an obstruction.
Cool piece about link (and the hand letterer himself) from Torontoist…

If memory serves me, when the Kansas City had a naming contest for their new franchise, Royals was a popular choice, given that KC was home to the American Royal, a huge livestock show. The winner suggested purple as the main team color as it’s the color of royalty. Turns out they went with Royal blue.
Sweet shirt on shirt.woot.com today. Just in time for opening time!

You’ll see facemasks on slowpitch softball pitchers more and more every year. Technology now produces bats that can propel a ball 125 mph (not allowed for play if test higher than that). Try fielding a 125-mph line drive when you’re only 50 feet away (roughly the distance of a men’s slowpitch rubber). Nasty.
Granted, that’s still not the same as a shortstop. But, I also know veteran ballplayers–excellent, national traveling team type ballplayers–who flat out say they won’t ever play third base anymore, it’s just too dangerous.
I saw one third baseman take a shot that caromed off the web of his glove into his left eye socket. 87 stitches, inside and out, and two days in the hospital.
Just sayin’…things are changing some.

a few things…
1. I was at the Phillies/Braves opener last night (I’m a season ticket holder of the wfc). The gold on the Phil’s uni’s is awful, and the Braves batting helmets were outstanding… even though they wore batting practice jerseys!
2. Those Pepsi cans will fade fast, this is a Coke town; 3-1 easy.
3. Maybe someone can on here answer this, because no one can come up with a solid reason anywhere else. Why do the youth of today keep the stickers on their baseball caps? As a 40 year old, I realize my connection with today’s youth is fading exponentially, but stickers left on clothing? Not sure on what planet that is fashion.
4. LOVE this blog even though there is some Mets bias. Can you do the rest of MLB a favor and convince the Mets to go back to blue based uniforms? The black is embarrassing (to me it looks just as stupid on the Eagles so this isn’t a bash NY thing) and worse, it reflects a tremendous Bronx jealousy. Two WS trophies since 1969 isn’t anything to shake a stick at. Show some pride in your own colors!
Keep up the good (make that GREAT) work!
While watching last night’s baseball game, I noticed the Philly Phanatic wears stirrups – something I don’t think I would have paid attention to before becoming a fan of this blog!
Check out this stylized illustration of the Phantic, stirrups and all:

So, if it’s the “National Pasttime”, why isn’t Opening Day a National Holiday? Just sayin’.

I also heard it was so the hats can be easily returned and a new one can be “purchased” (i.e. using LIDS as a library to borrow the hat that goes with what you are wearing). Too difficult to return with a curved brim and sans sticker.

Re pix of the 1934 Reds unis: seems like the jersey and cap in the color photo from Todd Radom aren’t from the same year? Note that Sammy Byrd and the other players in the B&W photos are all wearing a cap with what looks like a red (lighter) brim and blue (darker) letter C. Also note discrepancies in the jerseys: Sammy Byrd and the other players look to be wearing jerseys with thin placket stripes going all the way down the front, while the jersey in the color photo has thicker double stripes only around the neck. Also note that the lettering in the color photo is red; the lettering on Byrd’s jersey also looks red, while the lettering on the jerseys in the other photos looks darker… anyway, I’m just confused.

I have to agree. This is one reason I could learn to hate Phillies fans.
Adding expletives doesn’t make you cool or the fact that you won any cooler. It makes you sound like an idiot.
Well in any sport the law of averages that you’ll be “wfc” again this year isn’t good. So I guess some people just need to strut while they can, cuz their team could just as easily be 20 games out in July and they don’t wanna miss the opportunity to show they can’t WIN with class, either.

Paul,
Not that you shouldn’t be a Mets fan, but ever since they went with that whole “Mets in Black” thing to tie-in with “Men in Black” in the late ’90s, they’ve been a joke.
For someone who spends such a large portion of his life dedicated to uniform aesthetics, being a Mets fan in New York when you have the classiest (uniform-wise, anyways) franchise in the AL also representing your city is like being the NY Times food critic and saying your favorite restaurant is McDonald’s.
Too bad the Mets can’t be as smart about their uniform choices as the team they explicitly copied all those years ago – my beloved Dodgers.
3. Maybe someone can on here answer this, because no one can come up with a solid reason anywhere else. Why do the youth of today keep the stickers on their baseball caps?
(I managed a “Hat World” for 2+ years, here’s what I had learned):
One of the reasons the stickers were kept on, especially the White on White hats, was a place to grab the hat without marking it…the down side to this was that as the hat naturally got dirty, it would have a perfect circle of white once the sticker came off…
The second thing I learned, was that most of the time, most of the kids wanted size 8 hats…(yes, they looked like f’ed up bobble heads)…so the would often ask for a hat in their size and ask me to take a Size 8 sticker off another hat so they could show that off…
3rd: It was a way off just showing off “freshness” or as I heard every day: “that shit is sickness!…hook that shit up with them kicks…”
4th: I really stop caring after 2 years and commonly made fun of them while they were thinking I was complementing them…G*d, I hated retail…

if anyone is interested in keeping a record of your favorite teams uni schemes this year, and a record thereof…i’d like to do a season-ending review in october
in other words, if your team, like my favorite team, likes to wear a shitload of different uni combos and caps, im hoping you’d indulge me and keep a season-long record of what they wore daily and a won-loss record (i’ve seen this done before, most recently a rockies fan did this — noting not only the uni combos but also the starting pitchers and the like)
just curious as to what, if any, decisions on attire have to do with an actual record
doesn’t have to be anything particularly “scientific” in nature — just jot down each day’s attire and how the team did (of course, if you want to record even more identification, be my guest)… maybe we can even do a mid-season/all-star break report as well
example: METS (away games)
4/6 (gray jerseys/black blue caps) W
4/8 (gray jerseys/black blue caps) L
4/9 (black jerseys/black caps) W
METS (home games)
4/13 (snow white jerseys/black blue caps) L
4/15 (pinstripe jerseys/blue caps) W
4/16 (snow white jerseys/blue caps) W
…etc
something like that (obviously, it can be more intricate, such as noting the starting and winning pitchers, saves [since starting pitchers often dictate the choice of uniform], but all im interested in is their daily wear and their record)

Um, why would the Mets fans have any relevant opinion? They didn’t even make the playoffs. Ain’t no rule that saysthe Mets and/or Yankees are accorded a post-season berth, and that if don’t get one there must have been a disturbance in The Force. Cincinnati Reds ’50s and early ’60s (two; red wishbone C, red-navy oval C)…

I absolutely agree with you here, although I make an exception for Franchise caps. 5950’s never fit my head or look right, regardless of the work I put into them. The Franchise always fits just the way I like. A blank rear-view would make the Franchise just about perfect.

I don’t recall them (or the Athletics) EVER wearing that, and that is a LOT of uniforms.
Maybe it’s the length of the city name (although the Giants had a San Francisco jersey in the past) that precludes it? I don’t think a Warriors/Sixers 1960s “PHILA” would be good at all on a baseball jersey.

You may want to wait to see Bartolo Colon’s uniform. I think CC might need to use a belt & suspenders if he tried on those trousers.
The blue catching gear, which we’ve been seeing all spring, is a good sign.
The wearing of the blue caps on photo day is a good sign.
The blue caps on the players for their TV mug shots is a good sign.
The fact that most of the home-uniform action photos in the souvenir program show blue caps is a good sign.
The fact that they wore the two-tone cap with the plain whites throughout Spring Training is a mixed sign; that they wore it at all is a bad sign, but that they wore nothing else might be a good sign, and that the caps didn’t have the Citi Field patch might also be a good sign. (In other words, this might have been the settled combo for exhibition games but won’t be worn regularly in the regular season anymore.)
Finally, the fact that we’ve seen “good signs” like this in past years (especially the proliferation of blue-cap photos in programs and media guides) to no avail is probably a bad sign.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The Mets have to either start wearing their HOME uniform in home games, or designate the two-tone cap over plain whites as the official home uniform. Fish or cut bait. Get it right. Now.
The article on caps got me thinking. Is there any good blogs about the underrated baseball cap?
And BTW… digging those new Nats away unis.

I mean, at this point, with the amount they have psyched themselves out with obsessing over the Phillies this past offseason, its only inevitable that they collapse late in the year. A normal 3 game losing streak quickly balloons to losing 17 out of 20 with the pressure they’ve put on themselves this year

As you mention this, I had a debate with a gentleman off ebay yesterday about a Starter Phoenix Coyotes (old version) jersey he was selling.
The problem is that Starter had their jerseys made in El Salvador, and were always a problem for shipping due to the NAFTA agreement.
When I worked at River City Sports, we were forbidden to send Starter jerseys to the USA due to duties and tariffs placed on the package. Within Canada? No problem. But we had a lot of unhappy Colorado Avalanche fans being turned away because they couldn’t buy a Starter Avs jersey like the team wore from us.

The Pirates have spread the white outline from their alt-hat and black alt jersey to their dugout jacket.

Never seen this before but the trim around the neck of the Pirates jersey appears to run down the flap of the uniform on the left side. You usually wouldn’t see it because the jersey buttons over it, but you can see it on a few guys with a couple top buttons undone, and its kinda cool.

I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that the red billed caps may be like the names on the back of the home jerseys. They took them off a few years ago, but they were back after only 2 seasons. I think the red billed caps will be back in a couple of years.

Interesting
Living in Canada, I’ve had a variety of issues buying stuff cross-border and the reason I’m usually given is because the person I’m buying from isn’t the authorized dealer in Canada.
For example, I wear Asics shoes but I can’t buy them from any reputable US website because they won’t step on the Canadian dealer’s toes. And the US dealers don’t want to get Asics mad and risk losing their distributorship.
In your example, was there a US distributor of Starter that would have raised hell if you’d been selling into the US?

Nope. Starter got good “value” by outsourcing their product to El Salvador. For some reason, we could bring it in with no added costs, but once we mailed it across the border to the US, the NAFTA rules took effect and we had a lot of complaints from customers in the US.
RCS owns the licensing for all 30 teams, so it’s not like we had many places who could rival us for products. Being that the CDN-US dollar economics worked in the US’s favor, lots of American consumers took advantage of the price break by ordering the close-out Starter jerseys that RCS was offering. Except we couldn’t ship them.
So our sales department offered a lot of refunds at that time, and had to explain how the NAFTA rules worked – “you’ll be forced to pay an additional $30 on your package before you can receive it… are you ok with the additional charge?”
You know what most of the profanity-laced answers were, right? LOL
i still love the Angels’ dugout wall…the “A” looks like it’s glowing.
I think maybe it’s time to eliminate the word “honoring” from some of the shenanigans MLB (and others) are up to these days.
Perhaps better to just call them “this years’s uni promotion.”
To wit, tonight the Twins are “honoring” their 1982 uniforms and the last home opener in the final season of the Metrodome.
So we are to believe they hold in some esteem, and want the public to hold in some esteem, a uniform generally disliked by Twins fans as disjointed in theme, lacking a central design scheme and just plain butt-ugly…that was worn by, generally speaking, the suckiest Twins teams ever (spannning the last years outdoors and the early years indoors), and they want this to happen in a stadium that is universally disliked and lamented as absolutley horseshit place to watch a ballgame?
And because of that good stuff they “honor” these low moments in team history tonight and throughout the season.
Huh?
Maybe the problem is they just don’t know what “to honor” means.
Dumb, dumb, dumb. Not to mention contrived. Yet another example of the revisionist history and trumped up “events” that splatter the landscape of big time sports like pigeon droppings these days.

Watched the Cubs tonight. They wore their blue alternates, as they always do when Zambrano pitches. I noticed that in Aramis Ramirez’s jersey logo the color white fills the gap between the top of the cub and the inside of the top of the C. For comparison’s sake I specifically saw that at least Soriano, Theriot, and Zambrano had blue in that space.

I know it has been said (many times on here) that green and gold/yellow work really well together, but damn. They look really sharp. I don’t get to watch the A’s much in Wisconsin, so this is a treat.
I’m watching this game too. I’m a big Halos fan and I think that this is just a nice-looking game. We have two solid unis and no alts. I like the new “Angels Baseball” patch.
They also just showed Torii Hunter’s glove. I has a quote from “Spider-Man” stitched on it: “With great power comes great responsibility.” I guess Spidey is his nickname. I never knew that. Twins fans may no more about that than I do since this is only his second season in ANA.
One more thing: I think the A’s ought to get a solid green helmet. They’ve used the solid green road cap for years now. I’m surprised they already don’t have the solid helmet (unless I’ve missed it).
I got 37th place in the bracket, I’m pretty proud of myself.

Noticed that too. I say ban all patches that you can’t read without a supercloseup. All of those patches look the same anyway. World Series, All-Star Game, Final Four, Stupid Honor Patches, etc. They just blotch up the jersey and take away what (on some) might be a clean classy look.
I don’t understand why they are even required to wear the NCAA decal in the tournament. It would be like NFL teams being required to start wearing an NFL logo when they make the playoffs. Its already there.
I’ve got no problem with event or honor patches in baseball as long as they are confined to the sleeve. Enough friggin’ hat patches already.
front page of ESPN has a good pic of it.

The home whites and road grays worn by the A’s are very nice. Too bad they often ruin the look with the green alt.

I believe this jersey is on display in the Great Hall in Heinz Field. Maybe somebody has a photo of it, or can take one in the coming days when Pitt has an open house at Heinz Field.
They have a 1935 jersey? Very cool – so few exist from that period.
The earliest known Packers jersey only goes as far back as the link.
i believe that the jersey in the picture is a mid-1930s Pittsburgh Pirates (pre-Steelers)jersey. That jersey came right after the 1933 jerseys with the chest stripes and city sheild emblem, copied by the Steelers in the 1994 NFL throwback.
Probably accounts for why it is displayed at Heinz Field.
Okay, here’s a serious question. I’m trying to recall who (MLB, vintage high minors, Negro Leagues and NCAA baseball) has, since the ’40s or so, worn hats with a gray crown. I can think of…
St. Louis Browns ’40s (two versions, one with striped piping on seams, one with orange StL)…
Cincinnati Reds ’50s and early ’60s (two; red wishbone C, red-navy oval C)…
recent Orioles, Pirates and Royals…
Texas Longhorns
Havana Sugar Kings ’50s..
possibly Columbus Redbirds mid-’40s…
also possibly Detroit Stars (’20s)
Help?

The Indianapolis Indians AAA Baseball wore them well into the 1990s, I saw them in person when they came to New Orleans to play the early N.O. Zephyrs. I thought theior getting rid of them and their newer unis were at least two steps backward.

(sorry, i should have posted this yesterday)
if anyone is interested in keeping a record of your favorite teams uni schemes this year, and a record thereof…i’d like to do a season-ending review in october
in other words, if your team, like my favorite team, likes to wear a shitload of different uni combos and caps, im hoping you’d indulge me and keep a season-long record of what they wore daily and a won-loss record (i’ve seen this done before, most recently a rockies fan did this — noting not only the uni combos but also the starting pitchers and the like)
just curious as to what, if any, decisions on attire have to do with an actual record
doesn’t have to be anything particularly “scientific” in nature — just jot down each day’s attire and how the team did (of course, if you want to record even more identification, be my guest)… maybe we can even do a mid-season/all-star break report as well
example: METS (away games)
4/6 (gray jerseys/black blue caps) W
4/8 (gray jerseys/black blue caps) L
4/9 (black jerseys/black caps) W
METS (home games)
4/13 (snow white jerseys/black blue caps) L
4/15 (pinstripe jerseys/blue caps) W
4/16 (snow white jerseys/blue caps) W
…etc
something like that (obviously, it can be more intricate, such as noting the starting and winning pitchers, saves [since starting pitchers often dictate the choice of uniform], but all im interested in is their daily wear and their record)
yankees fans, obviously, need not apply
link if anyone is interested
Even though it’s late, I thought I would let you know I will be happy to do this for my Milwaukee Brewers. This shouldn’t be too difficult, but it sounds like fun anyways.

As bad as it is, the green alt is at least palatable compared to the black one.
As for their regular road unis, the aforementioned matching road cap/helmet would be nice. Personally, I’d prefer it if they’d ditch the solid green cap and go two-tone for home and road. Or keep the solid green, but change the logo from yellow to white.

LOL
Makes sense – only goods that originate within NAFTA countries move between NAFTA countries without duties. A jersey starting outside Canada, coming to Canada and then going to the US is subject to the same duty as if it had never been in Canada. Prevents goods from being “laundered” through Canada to get to the US.
My best guess is that there’s a big import duty on textiles coming into the US from El Salvador, but not from El Salvador into the US.
My comments on exclusive distributorships still apply – try and order Nike or Asics goods into Canada from a US retailer, and they probably won’t do it. I guess that’s a different issue than you ran into.
Jesus H. Christ, do you see these comments for Paul’s new Page 2 boss on his farewell blog? Man appears to be unpopular.
I think, it’s really look like a comment competition and I do not like such kind of things. We just comment over blog for sharing information so just concentrate on comment.
