I’m aware of the fluid nature of tennis apparel. Short of restrictions at places like the All England Club, there’s no uniform, really. Players get gear from sponsors, decide what they like and go with it. It changes often. No problem.

Back when the Tigers were still wearing sansabelts and arched lettering on the road, during a period of some disruption in the city, one of the Tigers came to bat with “DETRIOT” on his uniform.
Remember noticing it at the time and wondering if it was someone at the uni supplier’s “comment”, or just a mistake, and seeing a photo of it in newspaper the next day. Was said to be nothing other than a mistake, but the timing was…well, interesting.

I haven’t seen this on any other teams so far though.

Jose Bautista is playing for the Jays tonight for the first time in the black uniforms. However, his jersey has the front logo from the whites, with a white border around it. The third base coach had this problem when they made the coaching changes, not sure if it was corrected or not.

watching the Little League World Series, #2 for mexico was wearing a helmet with 17 on the front and right sides and 22 on the back. The next kid, #14 had a 14 helmet. I just though it was kinda strange.

Last night at Twins game “M-I-N-N-E-S-O-A-T on Adam Everett’s jersey. Also, has anyone seen any trailers for the new baseball movie “The Perfect Game”? The Mexican Little League team depicted gets my vote for uniforms of the year. Stirrups, piping around the back pockets of the pants. Looks like someone did there research for this movie. Even the batting helmet things that look like wrestleing headgear.

Reminds me of a point LI Phil brought up a while back in light of the new Indians and Phillies home alts, both of which look like throwback material, but are not throwbacks at all. I think the general consensus is this: there are throwbacks, and there are jerseys with a retro feel. So group the Brewers’ ball-glove pinstriped unis with the “retro feel” uniforms. But the Blue Jays’ Flashback Friday powder blues? Much closer to the real thing. I’d call those throwbacks.

The New York Mets were link last night. The tossed-off “Los” looked as lazy as usual, but with Houston in town I suppose it was as good a game as any for Latin Night. All players were introduced en espanol.

Getty has a few more images of Dzingayi’s run. Looks like “Faith” is the only writing/logo on the uniform other than the Beijing 2008 Zimbabwe Olympic Committee patch on his left side. The country is experiencing inflation like the world has never seen and has been for over a year. Their soccer team had to back out of Africa’s world cup qualifiers because of lack of funds. Maybe you’re right and the word is just inspirational but I can’t imagine the country paying for a generic if someone was willing to offer a few bucks to throw their name on the uniforms. Coventry has her own funding sources but I’m surprised the rest of the Zimbabwean team wasn’t decked out in off the rack hand-me downs.

Every time I see the Blue Jays Friday powder blues I feel like the color is slightly off and doesn’t match what they originally wore. Last night’s umpires had shirts on that seemed to be more the right shade- a slightly lighter blue.
Umpire for the Yankees Orioles game is in a blazer tonight with his pads showing through at the collar.

Everytime I see a picture from those days it sems to look like a different shade. I’ve been told this has to do with various photography styles, lighting, etc. Its possible that with more advanced cameras, we’re just seeing a ‘truer’ colour on TV and in pictures. Or, it could be a different shade, I’m no expert on the subject. I was only about 6 when they stopped wearing them so I can’t recall really, but they do look a tad dark to me. This again, could be because the designers were using pictures that made the blue look darker.
