If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it’s almost football season. Wait … August 17 … hot as balls … fantasy football nerds roaming the streets … Madden has been released … yes! It is almost football season. And that means it’s time to get out your nonsensical hats, everybody. This guy was in the Superdome last night. Unlike this collection of monstrosities, I have no idea what this guy’s hat means. Well, I know what it means for him, but I’m not sure of the message he’s sending. — Bryan
Does anyone know the story with the Indians’ jerseys today, in the 1948 style?
They seem to wear those for every Saturday home game. They look great, don’t they?
This is from yesterday, but the jerseys that they were wearing had “Indians” in the script, the old Chief Wahoo patch on the sleeve, and large red piping on the sleeves. Their normal alternate “throwback” jerseys have “Indians” in block letters, the current Chief Wahoo, and thin navy piping on the sleeves.
Bryan, I’m fascinated with hats…I collect them, wear them, watch them. Your post this morning made me smile. Cool man.

And they skipped any between inning entertainment, only used the organ for music, and turned the giant LCD displays into old fashioned scoreboards for the day.
It was a baseball purist’s dream, but apparently the 30,000 of my fellow clevelanders in attendance hated it. I guess you need some of the modern day distraction/entertainment when your team is in last place.

They suffered, however, from the clashing Chief Wahoos once the modern batting helmets were put on – link
Has anyone on here noted the AWFUL font for the numbers on the Netherlands’ soccer jersey? It looked like numbers made with athletic tape.
In the same Olympic soccer game, Argentina had a very weird crest on their uniform. It blended into the colors of the uni, so you could barely it. It looked like a mistake, actually. Very odd game uni-wise. It actually gave me a twitch.
I’ll look for some pics.
Manchester City are wearing their change kit away to Aston Villa, and it looks like a halloween nightmare.
I’ve been out of the loop for a while until this weekend. In regards to Johnny F.’s comment about Argentina, could someone please give a brief summary of why the Olympic soccer teams have to cover up their national crests?

They wore those at Euro 08 but instead of their flag they had the lion. I really love this year’s jersey… yes, even the numbers.
And as for crest it was probably a different crest then the original one because teams can not wear their normal crest do to IOC rules. The ones that wear them are facing fines from the IOC.
You can see videos here: link (I wish some one would show me how to put in the damn link code)
Did the Indians use the stripped stirrups? Anyone? Did the team even bother with them?

Yet Misty May-Treanor can wear her stupid Nautica headband without repercussion. Brilliant.
More fun soccer news:
Before the Manchester United-Newcastle United game, Manchester fans held up placards that spelled out “MORE GOALS PLEASE”.
Guess what else was there. A little Nike swoosh. *falls over*

Yeah, that’s pretty garish for the pitch, isn’t it? I like the tangerine and white of Blackpool, though.
This is something that struck me, in the wake of our recent conversations about team colors:
North American sports traditionalists lament the overhaul of a classic uniform, and are horrified when a team changes colors. English soccer clubs have, for decades, had completely different colors for their away uniforms; these days, changing the away kit to something completely different from the previous season’s — weren’t City in purple away from home last season? — is so common as to be expected.
Imagine that, NFL fans: The Packers wearing red and black on the road one year, then blue and orange the next.

Only the other 29,999 hated it. I was there and loved it! The organist was such an upgrade over the usual in between innings time filler they have! My only complaint was that I was in the bleachers, with the only scoreboard behind me. The should’ve had a box score on the display board on the first base side so we could know more of what was going on. I also would’ve liked to see the striped socks, but other than that the uniforms great!
Browns wearing brown pants tomorrow…
link
The Browns will wear brown pants for the first time in team history during Monday night’s nationally-televised preseason game against the New York Giants at Giants Stadium.
The pants are the same color of “darker” brown that’s on the plain socks the Browns have worn in recent seasons. They contain no stripes or markings.
They will be wearing those socks again on Monday, with their traditional white jerseys and orange helmets, and also the black shoes they started wearing again in 2006.
The team had the brown pants created as an option for their away uniform when they integrated the gray facemask in 2006. No final plans have been made as to whether or not the team will wear the pants for any other road game this year.
so looks like new orleans hornets are gettin new unis…

Yesterday, in the South Africa-New Zealand rugby match, Percy Montgomery and Juan Smith made their 100th and 50th appearances respectively for the Boks. Both were marked with embroidery only on the jerseys of the players in question.
Juan got “50th Test” underneath his Springbok, but Perce got his full name “Percival Colin Montgomery 100th Test” in the middle of his.
I can’t find any photos, but I do know that if my given names were Percival Colin, I wouldn’t want to advertise it during an international rugby match.

So I’m confused…solid brown-top socks or white socks with the stripe pattern? I’d hate the solid brown pants a lot more with the matching brown socks.
Related thought: What will the TMQ name for this wardrobe be? When the Browns wore much more orange than the helmet (read: jerseys or pants), they would be called either the Cleveland Oranges 2.0 (pre-Romeo Crennel) or 2.1. How about Cleveland Big Browns 2.1?

Re: #6
JohnnyF,
Holland’s had that number font for about two years now.
“The number font, created specifically for The Netherlands, is inspired by Dutch architecture and Delftian art.”
From a book I got from Nike two years ago, evidently entitled Joga Bonito. Anyway, it details all the new Nike national team kits, back from about two years ago. Pretty cool.

Viking appear to have altered font on numbers a bit. Horizontals are a bit wider, making that oddness of last year look a bit more traditional. About the only thing I’ve seen so far.

Nope. Guess not. Just looked at photos from last year. Must be that I disliked the new unis so much I thought they were odder than they are.
Or, Heaven forbid, I’m getting USED to the damn things.

Browns in brown pants?
Welllllllllllllll, I guess after almost 50 years of the original Denver Broncos being dumped on for their ugly uniforms with brown pants, etc., all bets are off these days.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, for Broncos it was about the socks, too, but the brown pants were an issue; believe me, they were.

HORRIBLE STRIPELESS MONOCHROME PANTS
Why do these teams use these IDIOT ideas when they ALREADY have classic, classy, sensible regular uniforms ….
The Saints too often TORMENT us with their thuggish, classless, black leotards …
I had hoped the Browns’ braintrust would know better

Isn’t that what the White Sox did when they began the turn back the clock phenomenon around 1990? Seems like it would be a lot of fun.
not sure this has been discussed, but can anyone tell me why the american flag is backwards on san diego’s (hideous) camo jerseys on the right sleeve?
Been disucussed. Rule is that a flag on a sleeve should always be worn with stars forward, so flag does flip-flop depending on which sleeve.
That’s the gist of it, anyway.
