So, what did you do with your day off? Paul hosted a Uni Watch party in Seattle, I saw Bruce Springsteen, and USC wore its red uniforms against UCLA in the Pac-10 tournament. All three are noteworthy, though one is less obvious than the others.
USC wears this and this in the Amazing and Super-Spectacular System of Dress. Seems kind of funny to go back to an old style after making the switch. Jason is right about Florida. They wore a gator print SOD last season against Tennessee I believe and then switched back to the uniforms they won with the year before. The switch worked out pretty well for that team.
USC had yellow uniforms last year, but I don’t remember seeing them this year.
SC has a gold uni, but it is merely the old fashioned “regular” variety. Haven’t seen a yellow or gold system of dress one yet. I noticed they wore the old red ones a couple weeks ago on their Arizona road trip as well. Can’t imagine that Nike wouldn’t have come up with a new red version – but then again USC isn’t Oregon . . .
I think it’s weird that the trim on the bottom of USC’s short don’t match the trim around the collar and arm holes. It doesn’t look quite right to me.

Didn’t want to steal the pic from a friend without her permission, but Sharks’ goalie Dmitri Patzold wore a jersey in a warmup in December where his numbers overlapped the bottom stripes. Didn’t know if it was just because it was a goalie cut, but no other player had numbers overlapping. Couldn’t find a good pic of Evgeni Nabokov to compare.

Dude, the roof of the Georgia Dome is damaged, they can’t play there. This “possible hurricane” (tornado) knocked over 2 of the huge torches @ Centennial Olympic Park and blew out windows on the nearby CNN building among other damage.

I’m sure Nike plans on making red uniforms for USC. There was just probably a problem at the factory where they’re made. They may not have them for this year, but I guarantee they’ll have them next year. The same thing happened to Illinois back in 2000 when they got new uniforms. They had white and blue new uniforms, but had to wear their old orange uniforms for the first year.
It’s not as bad as West Virginia before they got their SOD uniforms. They had four different uniforms for their four different colors of uniforms (navy, yellow, white, and grey).

Initially, I couldn’t stand the SOD, mainly because of what Nike did to mangle the Syracuse uniforms as well as those of Florida.
However, this year, with the majority of the “elite” schools going the SOD route, I have fli-flopped and now LOVE them.
The only schools that I think flunked miserably were my beloved ducks, ‘Cuse, Florida State,and Oklahoma.
The big winners were Maryland, K-State, and TOSU, which are myu favorites, especially the road grays.

yeah, i was about to say, for some reason, oregon just doesn’t have a white SOD jersey. i thought after the arizona series they were going back to the old style and got all excited, but then they came out with the green SOD jerseys at the staples center and stunk up the joint.

The entire “System of Dress” is a real shame. It’s gotten rid of some great uniforms, such as the red USC uni shown in the article. My school, Syracuse, has been a victim of this link which is sweeping the nation, and taking with it traditional college basketball uniforms. I know that the uniforms we wore for the 2006-07 season link, but they were still much better than what we’re wearing now. Personally, I’d like Syracuse to return to their link, which were both classy and a great representation of the team’s tradition. Why’d you go and ruin everything, Nike? Why?

I am!! SOD has really grown on me. I think that this year the jerseys aren’t as tight and the shorts aren’t as billowy. Last years version was a little too much, but this year Nike got it right.

I have been a lurker here for a while . But i honestly like MOST SOD unis. I know its not traditional and maybe even looks a little off or diffrent to the eye. However I like that they are for the most part imple in design sort of following the less is more theme. As an athlete who played basketball in college I can say i always prefered to play in loose shorts and my spandex (think Under Armour) undershirt. Just feels more comfortable. Also I like the siloutte (sp?) it creates. Just my two cents.
Speaking of the SOD, are the stripes down the back of the jerseys, as opposed to the sides, functional or just aesthetic? In general I like the SODs a lot better than those stupid horns but the back stripes just don’t do it for me, especially but not exclusively that grey patch at the shoulder blade. The only teams I’ve seen without the back stripes are those without any stripes on their jersey. If Nike can go back to side panels with the SOD, even if they are the funky prints/designs used today, I’ll appreciate them much more. I’ve got a Corey Brewer blue SOD jersey from last season without the side/back stripes and the sewn in panels follow the same lines as the back panels of this year’s uniforms. Instead of the grey shoulder panel though, there is an orange shoulder panel.
It seemed that last year’s SOD shorts were baggy and wayyy too long. Now it looks like they’re a bit more normal in length which makes the system better.
They’re fairly simple compared to most things Nike cranks out and they’re beginning to grow on me.

Pic 2 has the worst template of the bunch. I catually prefer the side striped version in pic 4. If they would combine those with the SOD, that would be great.
Also, their grays in Pic 1 are awful and Oregon had four sets of their Horn template unis to go along with their 4 SOD, so the Ducks have got the Mountaineers beat, which actually brings to mind quite an interesting mental image, picture Daffy with his rifle on Elmer!

One of my daughters has a friend whose parents we have become pretty close to. The father grew up with Bruce and has remained a lifelong friend to the point that when only inveited as a guest to their wedding, their friends chided him into doing a 45 minute set of songs at the reception sans Clarence!

It was a great show, of course. I didn’t realize he changed the encore order until seeing the handwritten one compared to the actual one. Pretty cool stuff. And it was my first Springsteen show — time, money and other circumstances prevented previous trips. I’m glad I got to go for this one.

The Ducks only have worn 7 uniforms this year, they don’t have a white SOD uniform. They wore the yellow SOD uniforms at home for Washington State, OSU, and Arizona, and wore the old cut white uniforms for Arizona St.

Tennessee State had MOB (mascot on back) for the longest time, and then they went NNOB (I think) this past year. So there hasn’t been a problem with him yet (otherwise we certainly would have seen it posted on this Website).

And watching those SEC tournament games on Raycom, with the sea of empty bleachers . . . I can’t help but remember those days (about 16 or 17 years ago) when Siena had some sort of pandemic on campus and had to play all of their home games (including their conference tournament, which they hosted) in an empty arena.

I didn’t go to USC, but my friends from there say that they don’t use the “Southern Cal” label. It’s “USC” or “Southern California.” Or, on many a Pac-10 forum, “U$C.”

I prefer link ASU unis, but the roundball duds are pretty sharp too. The Sun Devil is also one of my favorite mascots in the country.

Most people know the school as “USC.” “Pennsylvania” is a state. We might both be right. In the world of academia, it is probably more common to refer to it as ‘UC Berkeley’, while everywhere else it is referred to as ‘Cal’. And from what I understand, you are not supposed to refer to the University of Southern California as ‘Southern Cal’ – USC or just SC are acceptable.

“southern cal” is not only unacceptable to usc, they point it out on the information sheets they give to writers. just like every usc baseball press sheet starts by announcing that they’ve won more than twice the number of national championships as any other school, all of their sports information lists acceptable substitutions for the full university name and condemns all use of “southern cal.” of course, the department of transportation uses “univ. so. calif.” on the street signs so somebody wasn’t listening…

The Sun Devil Football uniform has to be one of the nicest designs out there. Simple yet clean a real masterpiece

I hate Maryland’s SoD (unfortunately I will have to watch it in the NIT) Nike took one of the most distinct unis in College Basketball and ruined it.
I always thought Billy Crystal was a Mets fan thanks to City Slickers. If I was in a movie, and had to wear a ball cap as a character, why would I wear the crosstown rival of my team. I am glad someone else wondered about this.
First, USC does not wear red. They wear Cardinal.
Second, USC will probably not wear the black jersey’s again until next season because they lost in them. When they wore the gold jersey’s, they usually wore them for special occasions or until they lost in them.
Third, they sell replica’s of the cardinal system of dress uniform on Eastbay and at the USC Bookstore.
Personally, I don’t mind the black or cardinal jersey’s, but I hate the white Trojans jersey. I think it should be in script to match the school’s logo.
