Is Bob Knight wearing short jeans? Is he expecting a flood at Spring Training?

So are the Cards ditching the blue from their road unis? Or was this just a spring training thing? Anybody know?

Wearing real stirrups isn’t easy. It involves a lot of bending over and coordination to hook that stirrup over your heel. LaRussa has a hard time with that when he’s working off that hangover from the night before. Therefore he sticks with the fake stirrups.

Plus, no matter how cool stirrups are, nobody over the age of 50 wear them. Seriously, does anyone want to see Don Zimmer wear stirrups?

Why can’t the fake stirrups connect beneath the heal? There have been many technological advances since the fake stirrup first appeared, I would think that nowadays sock manufacturers could make the fakes look more real. Realer looking fakes could maintain the cool looking aesthetic of stirrups while simultaneously maintaining the ease of a single pair of socks.

Given the choice between Don Zimmer in stirrups and Don Zimmer in say, assless chaps, I’d take the stirrups.

I never really liked the navy road hats either. It doesn’t really match anything, considering they wear red undershirts and red shoes on the road. link All it matches are the belts and super-thin borders around the numbers, but in my opinion, it doesn’t help bring out those colors at all. It looks like its only purpose is to sell. I vote red all the time as well, because cardinals are red. Plus, I think gray and red is an awesome combination.

I too agree with Art. I love the red caps, however I do like the navy caps as well. The third cap with the navy crown and red bill has got to go!

On another off topic note: I’ve e-mailed the person from the Helmet Project a few times with no response. I have something he was looking for and I want to send it to him. Does anyone have an address or any kind of contact info? There’s nothing on the site!

As a big Cards fan, I have to agree that they should go back to wearing the Red caps with their road grays. My personal favorite baseball cap I wear is my cotton, fitted navy Cardinals road cap though.

One of the refs in the Georgia-Dallas game is wearing a helmet. It looks similar to the black caps they normally wear, but its bulk and shine seem to prove otherwise. Any details?

I share those wishes with everyone else. But the Navy hat not only looks good, its a nod to history.

They wore red hats from 1900 to 1908, with white mixed in as well.

Then they went to white hats from 1909 to 1940. That year the started wearing blue hats full time until 1964. (in 65 it was as is now, red at home, blue on the road) From then on it was red all the time until 1992 and the uniform redesign brought back the blue away caps.

I like how they look and like I said, this is the hat that Stan Musial wore and many other great Cardinals in the 40s & 50s. I’d like to see perhaps the blue hat only go to sundays or something. I’d like to keep it in the mix, but they look really good in red on the road.

So I assume the A on the back of Arena QB helmets is roughly equal to the green dot?

And it seems that only the ref right in the middle of the defense (the only one who would have a ball thrown and guys running in his general direction) is the one wearing the helmet. It’s basically a baseball helmet.

I like the navy Cardinal caps worn on the road. I think they look very classy, and are a nice nod to the team’s history.

If there is so much concern about the hats not matching the undershirts, then maybe some people should complain to the Red Sox as well. Their navy caps used to match the navy sleeves they wore, but Boston has been wearing red undershirts since the John Henry regime took over.

I don’t know if this was mentioned but I was watching the Arena football game between Georgia and Dallas. And noticed one of the refrees had on a black double flap batting helmet complete with the typical white piping painted on. Sorry no screen grab.

To get that real classic old school look, don’t forget to roll the strirrup and the sanitary sock underneath down two folds to get that line. link

Phil, even if they’re stirrups, they showed a lot of leg there at B-C with the high pantlegs, unlike certain players in the majors who wear them like pajamas. And alas, no gold “C” in “Ucla” on the baseball uniform for the obvious reasons that has been mentioned earlier

Some DI lacrosse teams have been wearing lime green shoe strings to raise awareness about link. I saw Mt. St. Mary’s, whose coach is a cancer survivor, wear them on friday night and both link wore them on Saturday.

I was going to comment, but in reading the comments, it looks like someone already said exactly what I was going to. The navy hat is a not to the great teams of the past. I can live with or without the sunday cap, and think it actually looks better with the road grays than it does the home whites. They actually wore them on the road back in 98 or 99.

As for the comment of sturrips and black shoes, I completely agree as well.

It might be a long year in Redbird Nation, but hey, it’s March, it’s a time to be optimistic.

link is definitely over 50 and knows how the hell to wear some amazing stirrups.

The Cards all need to get with the program and SHOW THE STRIPES. Also, I dig the navy hats and the red ones. I say stick with what works (red at home, navy on the road.)
