Looks like this fine specimen is getting ready for some good times on the diamond, too. I usually dig out my glove in February or March to see if my rotator cuff has healed over the winter. I know rotator cuffs in general take a good deal of time to recover, so I’m really holding out hope for this 10th year.
Anyway, our team should be … hold on … what? That’s Nick Johnson? Oh, OK, cool. Our team is full though, so he’ll have to just be a sub. Get his number.

As an avid fan of argyle, I LOVE the celebrity game jerseys! Fantastic work by the NBA.
I think those argyle jerseys are going to be things like the Phoenix Coyotes’ link: they might seem cool at the time, but in 10 years they will just be ridiculous.
That being said, I like them. Teal/aqua and purple is one of my favorite color combos.
I don’t have any photos, but last night at the North Dakota v. Denver college hockey game there was another incidence of a referee losing his uniform. The head official, Marco Hunt, was wearing one of the linesman’s uniforms with some orange armbands. Because that linesman didn’t have his uniform, the two linesmen had to wear their warm-up jackets for the game. I found it comical when some of the fans were yelling at Hunt using the wrong name, since it still said ‘Freeman’ on his back…must have been a nice escape for him.

agreed.. funny picture. But this is Uni Watch, and while i think Bryan is a great writer, this one makes no sense. Nick Johnson is attempting to come back from maybe the worst injury a baseball player can have ; A Broken Leg. The opening article had no mention of anything uni-related, which Paul stresses daily. While i enjoy the underlying softball mention, id rather see a lead pic of the All-Star uni’s and them being praised / bashed. i posted this on 12/10 of last year and it seems it might be time to post it again. although every bit of its content may not be relevent, the basic framework is…
as far as bryan goes. i honestly couldnt believe the aggressiveness and attacking posts toward him this weekend.
one of the reasons why i love this blog outside of its content is that everyone is very respectful of each other and there was really no flaming here.
guys, this isnt high school, and bryan isnt a substitute teacher. he should be given the same amount of respect as we afford PL and each other here.
yes, you only see the weekend posts that he puts together, but as someone who has written a post for PL, and who has done a fair amount of research for different contributions over the last 4 or 5 years (yes, prior to the blog), i can attest that the majority of what he does goes unnoticed.
its a tiring and thankless job, and we see the fruits of his work virtually every day in the content that PL writes about.
my opinion differs from PL’s, Vince’s, Bryan’s, and many of the readers here on many topics.
i dont mind purple, i love nike, for some colors, monochrome football uni’s look great, and i like the baggy pants look in baseball.

link is your standard slow-pitch player. link is Nick Johnson. When I saw Mr. Johnson’s picture on the wire, I honestly thought it was from a fantasy camp or some slow-pitch league. Making the comparison seemed pretty obvious after that.
So where’s the punchline? Here it is: Nick Johnson looks like a slow-pitch player. Other than the shorts and the caption included on the wire photo, you’d have no idea he was a major leaguer. That’s kind of funny for a dude who was once an “untouchable prospect.”
As for baldness because of baseball caps, count me among that population. I just shave it all off, though, because I don’t want to look like Nick Johnson.

Great call. Our NBA Creative Services did an NBA Cares group effort thing and painted a pool’s wall mural in Harlem back in the mid-90’s . Allan Houston (with the Knicks at the time) showed up for 3 minutes, literally grabbed a roller brush (I don’t think he knew what it was?) an NBA Photo employee took his photo and Allan left.
Inside Stuff turned our six-hour mural work and turned it into a half hour show the following Saturday telling NBA sucker fans how great a guy Allan is. WAH? or Where Amazing Happens…

However, something from today that I do like:
1. The SOD’s of Texas, they are extremely long, but narrow. They do look like culottes that Nadal would wear, but the form fitting jerseys are sharp. Baylor’s oversized jerseys emphasized the contrast bewteen themselves and the crisp lines of the S.O.D. gear.
2. DJ Augustine is a pleasure to watch, I havent seen alot of him. He is whats RIGHT with basketball, and this is coming from a person who despized all Texas sports, especially former baseball pitchers from the esteemed institution

Concerning Oregon: Im very disappointed. They have so much potential. I am starting to love the SOD unis and was looking forward to the Ducks unveiling something innovative during the PAC10 tourney. As a friend of mine said, Nike really dropped the ball.

a. i thought the celebrity game uni’s were quite sharp, no matter how much of a gamble it was to do an entire jersey in custom argyle. in fact i have some sweaters in a similar pattern. in all fairness though, its a one off uni for a one off scrimmage so lets take it at that value.
b. i gotta say i thought i remember the 88 kansas uni’s more toward the navy side than the royal side of blue. plus for the career manning had there, no one should be wearing 25 now or should they have been since his graduation.

From the first row of Mac Court, you could only kind of read the NOB, i was indifferent toward it though because its just like there isn’t a name, so who really cares. it’s like the silver names on the white road football jerseys. what bothered me the most was that the silver stripes on the side weren’t on the jersey, just the shorts. i actually liked that the stripes got thicker as you moved down, but all you had to do was start it on the jersey and it would have made a little more sense.
the biggest thing that bothered me was that they were fixing something that wasn’t broken. the pre-frocks for jocks unis look sharp, so why change the style for the SOD? just do the same thing in a different cut.
i am from Minnesota and am embarrassed to admit that until tonight i never had noticed that on the timberpuppys jerseys that only the right leg has the tree trim. that being said i think its one of the best trims in sports!
