The NHL All-Star Game was last night, but I found the uniforms to be unremarkable at best (and besides, I was busy participating in Soup Night for most of the game). Fortunately, reader Chuck Miller has a report on another all-star game that recently took place — one that featured many more interesting uni-related moments that the NHL game did. Here’s the scoop:
The Continental Basketball Association held its annual All-Star Game last Tuesday. The players wore their regular team uniforms, like in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, so there was a wide variety of designs on display. For star-spangled style, the Butte Daredevils pay homage to Butte native Evel Knievel by wearing jerseys inspired by Knievel’s leather jumpsuits. The Minot Skyrockets’ road jerseys may be hard to read from the front, but there’s no problem identifying the player from the back. The Albany Patroons’ road jerseys are also hard to read, as the jersey front looks more like abstract art than a team name.
Due to some last-minute player replacements, some all-stars didn’t arrive with their proper uniforms. Zach Marbury of the Atlanta Krunk was forced to wear an All-Star Game T-shirt and practice shorts. Despite the Oklahoma Cavalry playing as members of the “home” team and wearing their white jerseys, Oklahoma’s Marvin Phillips brought his blue road Cavalry gear, which could have caused confusion on the court.
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Xplosion, who wear white at home and black on the road, chose to wear their yellow alternates (and yes, all three jerseys have the words “PITTSBURGH XPLOSION” as contrasting side seams). However, the National Conference squad was designated as the home team, which meant that the Yakama Sun Kings (four of whose players were in the game) wore their home yellow jerseys, meaning that you had, for a time, yellow defending against yellow.
Several players found unique ways to accentuate their sweatbands. Nat Burton of the Albany Patroons chose to wear the official All-Star Game logo pin on his headband, while Atlanta’s Zach Marbury wore armband with a Sharpie-inscribed tribute to his father, who passed away earlier in the season.
Native American influence was felt throughout the game. When the Butte Daredevils’ Odell Bradley was named the game’s MVP, he was given a special jacket, with artwork inspired by Native American culture.
Big thanks to Chuck for what I’m fairly certain is the longest report ever written about a CBA game.
Uni Watch News Ticker: Some nice old uniforms up for auction here, here, and here. And check out this one, which features dotted-line embroidery, an unusual belt style, and an awesome sleeve patch. ”¦ Nice feature of Super Bowl rings here. ”¦ News flash: Hockey fans like wearing hockey jerseys. ”¦ Interesting piece here about presidential campaign logos (with thanks to Justine DeCotis). ”¦ Jeremy Brahm reports that several Puma-outfitted teams at the African Cup of Nations soccer tourney are wearing bitmapped uni numbers (additional examples here, here, here) and that the 2008 Beijing Olympics soccer ball will look like this (only, y’know, a little bit smaller). Jeremy also sees some similarities between Monty Python’s classic “I’m a lumberjack” skit and very embarrassing U.S. figure skaters Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto. ”¦ College hoops note from Brian Rice, who writes: “Here are the new Tennessee basketball warmups, which debuted for the beginning of SEC play earlier this month. They’re throwbacks to the warmups worn during the era of legendary coach Ray Mears, who passed away last June. One down note: These are worn during pre-game only — when the team returns for introductions, they’re back in the standard Adidas shooting shirts and warmups, as the contract requires.” ”¦ Hawaii is angling for a new apparel contract. ”¦ Randy Miller reports that USF has switched to Under Armour and will apparently be wearing this jersey next season. Interesting to see that the design includes a football version of the NikeWorld collarbone horns we’re used to seeing in college basketball. ”¦ Reprinted from yesterday’s comments: According to this Chicago Tribune blog entry, the White Sox will be wearing camouflage jerseys on the 4th of July, which I think is really overdoing it. He alertly snapped some nice screen grabs, as seen here, here, and here. ”¦ Jeff Barak attended the annual Twins Fest over the weekend. “They had a wonderful historical display of Twins jerseys,” he reports. “They were in two rows, going chronologically left to right across the top [as seen in sequence here, here, here, and here]. The top row started with the earliest 1961-71 style, followed by the 1972-73 button-down, 1974-86 pullovers, and 1987-present styles. Then they had the red alternates, blue alts, vest alts, St. Patrick’s spring training, Senators throwback, a St. Paul Negro League throwback, and 1970s and 1960s throwbacks. The bottom row had the fabulous turn ahead the clock [here’s the back view], a Jackie Robinson reproduction (for some unknown reason), a pair of batting practice jerseys, a No. 71 worn by Joe Mauer when he first signed, a No. 20 worn in the movie Little Big League, a pair of jackets (one of which was a six-foot-long bullpen jacket for cold weather), another more modern pair of jackets, and a sampling of jerseys with commemorative patches.” … Great blog post by Kenn Tomasch about his visit to the NFL Experience exhibit in Phoenix. ”¦ A UNC hoops museum is set to open today (with thanks to Tom Arnel).
I saw an entire indoor field hockey team with the Susan G. Komen theme (pink socks, etc.). Turns out the teenage daughter of the coach died six months ago of breast cancer. Way too soon.

Sad seeing how many of those Twins jerseys are on cheap wire hangars.
Interesting article about the presidential campaign bumper stickers, but I think that Obama’s rising sun link was separated at birth with the link from our local city of Chandler, Arizona.
The Senior Bowl is North vs. South, not east vs. west.
In regards to the article mentioning that Hawaii might be looking for a new apparel deal, I would be upset to see them land a new dealer and go away from the uniform detailing that Nike has developed for them. I love the helmets and striping on the pants. I feel that Hawaii’s uniforms are the most unique in college football. They do an excellent job of representing the school, people and geographic area of Hawaii IMHO.
Randy Miller reports that USF has switched to Under Armour and will apparently be wearing this jersey next season. Interesting to see that the design includes a football version of the NikeWorld collarbone horns we’re used to seeing in college basketball.
I wouldn’t go ahead lumping that design feature as a Nike exclusive one. UA has been using that as a design element since it debuted it’s football line with the link. It has also been seen in generic UA ads and on the red jerseys from Gridiron Gang….which were basically the MD jerseys. It is also present, although not as large, it their link.

As a Vanderbilt graduate, I applaud UT for continuing their tradition of ugly uniform attire.
Stripes on the warmups, a la Indiana, is a nice idea.
However stripes in the shade of “road crew” orange are just plain awful. Ouch. It hurts my eyes to look!
However, as a Cincinnati Bengals fan who likes the Bengals’ threads, I find myself throwing stones from a glass house.
LSU wears yellow helmets with their own white jerseys, so why did the LSU players in the Senior Bowl bother to claim that they wore white helmets to match the South’s white jerseys? They should have said that they wore the white helmets because it was cool or different or whatever, instead of making up some bogus reason.
So, I got one of those Herrington catalogs in the mail, paged through it, and noticed link. OK, not so bad looking, but the link was playing up the Rugby World Cup connection.
Looking at the shirts, I thought – hey, isn’t the New Zealand logo supposed to be link, and not link?
So, I go to an official Rugby World Cup site, and find that of course, there’s nothing even remotely similar to link link link or other link being offered.
Boo.

I also attended TwinsFest over the weekend. It was good to see some pics of those old Twins jerseys. However, they also had a traveling display of various old jerseys and artifacts from the HOF. One of the items was an early 20th century jersey (I forget which player) that had what appeared to be button holes on the cuffs of both sleeves. Anyone seen that before? My only guess is they were a means of attaching long sleeves to the short-sleeved jersey (the sleeve extensions would have had buttons that attached to the holes on the ends of the permanent sleeves. Does anyone know if that is accurate?

A positive note about one of Uniwatches’ sponsors: As a lifelong Giants’ fan living in Georgia, I ‘had to have’ a road Eli jersey for Sunday. Ordering from them was a great experience for me. Web site was well designed, clear and efficient. Price was least expensive I found the jersey was at my door in two days. Total quality.

nice jersey! they used to sell those undershirts here at the pirates clubhouse store @ pnc park. i could run over there this week and look if you dont find one soon. i’ll keep an eye out in the posts. i have to tell you though, they are kind of “cheeply” made. if that is even a word. you can see the pirate decal on the shoulder peeling off the players arms towards the end of the season (sorry, no pics). let us know either way, like i said, i’ll keep an eye out!
The NFC Pro-Bowl jersey is Larry Fitzgerald (#11) not Anquan Boldin (#81).

With respect to the jersey, I got it at Pirate fest, it has the All star game patch and the Bob O’Connor memorial patch on it. It’s a real doozy, and it was so cheap ($100). I also got a 2005 alternate (the black one) for $35.
As for the undershirt, I never thought it would be that hard to find, but I have had no luck. I looked on their website (of course) but they either don’t have it, or don’t label it correctly.
The good news a lot of the players don’t bother to wear it anyway. They always seem to wear just a 3/4 sleave black t-shirt, which is weird in its own right.

It’s just you. The only thing those have in common is the word McCain. Besides that, they are completely different.
Despite the overwhelmingly boring All-Star jerseys yesterday in the NHL, a great finish to the game.
Tonight, the AHL All-Star game is on, and can be seen live via broadband on the AHL website.
Unfortunately, the AHL’s All-Star jerseys induce more yawning.

Reprinted from yesterday’s comments: According to this Chicago Tribune blog entry, the White Sox will be wearing camouflage jerseys on the 4th of July, which I think is really overdoing it. Independence Day is about a lot of patriotic things, not just militarism.
What’s wrong about the White Sox using our Independence Day to pay tribute to the armed forces, especially when many of those troops are engaging in armed combat in Iraq? Or is that the point — it’s only OK to have a tribute to the military when they’re not actually doing anything involving fighting?
My reaction may seem harsh, but to say that the White Sox are “overdoing it” for paying tribute to the military on a national holiday is asinine. And this is coming from a blue-blooded Cubs fan.
The San Diego Padres had their fan fest, dubbed Friar Fest, over the weekend too. I went down to Petco Park on Saturday. They always have a yard sale where they sell game used jerseys, pants, equipment, banners, etc. They used to sell the jerseys for only $35, but this year they bumped the price up to $75. The jerseys usually belong to the lesser players. There would be no chance of finding guys like Hoffman, Gwynn, Sheffield, McGriff, etc.
I picked up a 2007 Jack Cust road jersey, and a 1988 Keith Moreland road jersey. link and link of the jerseys.
The only way that Cust jersey is game worn is if the Padres wore their official roads during Spring Training for a game. Cust was traded to the A’s before he could play a game for the Padres in 2007. It’s not a 2006 jersey because Cust wore #9 during his callup, and Josh Barfield had #29 that season.
Keith Moreland’s jersey is interesting because in the same pile was a Moreland #7 jersey. He only played one season with the Padres, 1988. At some point in that year, they unofficially retired Steve Garvey’s number #6, at which point Moreland had to switch to #7. I was about to grab a Marvell Wynne jersey instead, as he was the only name in the pile that I could remember from my childhood on those late ’80s teams, but it didn’t have any buttons.
The pants that were on sale were from all the Padres throwback games from 2006 and 2007. I was very tempted to get some of the mustard yellow pants.
The last item I grabbed was this beautifully framed link of Eddie Williams playing first base for the Padres. He went to my church while he was a Padre in the mid ’90s, so this had special significance. Overall the frame is about 30″x24″ and only cost $50.
Don’t miss Friar Fest next year if you’re close to San Diego. There are some great deals to be had!
Speaking of Hawaii, Is June Jones insane?
If anyone knows if the Fan Fests are still going in their hometowns, I’d like to pick up a baseball jersey.
Just as a size question for me: Do they still make Cecil Fielder and John Kruk-sized jerseys? I thought most ball players were somewhat fit now. ;o)

While I obviously cannot condone the A’s new black alternates, this particular iteration of it looks a hell of a lot better than the one they had a few years ago that was black with green embroidery. Those were borderline illegible and patently ugly.
At least the main color of the embroidery on this new one is white so as to actually contrast with the jersey color.
I was trying to help Jesse in locating a Pirates Undershirt and came up with link. It doesn’t help Jesse a lick but it has some nice history of the Pirates uni’s.

I’m not making excuses. Believe me, I am not accepting of anyone wearing wearing black unless it’s actually a legitimate part of their color scheme, and I don’t condone any baseball team wearing a black jersey regardless of their team colors.
All I’m saying is, if they’re going to have ugly jerseys, at least this time around you can read them.
Though the new ones basically look like the Pirates should be wearing them, so the A’s really have no reason to wear them at all.

Wearing camouflaged jerseys on the Fourth of July does nothing to support the armed forces. Just like singing God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch does nothing to prevent terrorism. In fact, these banal, useless gestures really underscore how little average people, myself included, do with respect to these issues. It’s all symbolism to make the fans at the ball park on the 4th of July feel better about doing nothing to support the war effort in this country.
Want to help? Write your congressman and ask him to increase funds for the soldiers, and to apply them in a way that will help rather than padding the profits of corporate interests. Or support the campaigns of candidates who will the troops home. Which ever side of the debate you’re on and I don’t want to debate staying versus going in Iraq, there are things you can actually do to help.
But shit, can’t I just watch a god damn ball game without having corporate financed “patriotism” shoved down my throat?

Tape, this has nothing to do with your post, rather the link attached to your screenname. You have some GREAT ballpark pics. My favorites were those taken at Eldredge Field, home of the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
I grew up watching Cardinals games sitting on the Route 28 guardrail behind the Card’s dugout with my dad. Some of my fondest memories were talking to a lanky, young shortstop from Georgia Tech while he was on deck, who in his three years with the team became a huge fan favorite. It was a treat to watch him get drafted by the BoSox and become the great and beloved player that Nomar was.
One of the greatest joys of my life was being able to bring my wife and two daughters to their first Cardinals game this past Summer.
Thanks for the flood of memories, Tape!

Just as a size question for me: Do they still make Cecil Fielder and John Kruk-sized jerseys? I thought most ball players were somewhat fit now. ;o)
They may be more fit, but their jerseys don’t fit. A Manny Ramirez jersey would probably work just fine for you.
Ahhh… good call, Stuby.
Does anyone know if these Fan Fests are continuing? Living at least 8 hours from a MLB team, I never seem to get to these things.
The NHL All Star Game was on last night? Who knew?
Not I.
In fact sadly, if I was not a member of this board, I probably would not even know the NHL still existed.
I say that not to take anything away from the NHL, but rather as a comment on the way the NHL has fallen completely off the average sports fan’s radar screen. I never see ads for the NHL and rarely hear scores.

Yeah, last summer I went on a stadium vacation for a week. I hit both NY parks, Philly, Baltimore and DC (plus a game or two a few subway stops away at Fenway).
I never saw Nomar play. I moved to Orleans in the fall of 1993, just after the summer he played for the Cardinals. I did live about a 2-minute walk away from Eldredge Park, just past the police station across the street, and for those las two summers in high school and the two summers where I still went home from college during the summer, I went to almost every game I could. The big name I remember was Todd Helton. I think Scott Proctor was on one of those teams. Most of the really awesome guys on the Cards were just before or after those few years though, like Nomar, Ben Sheets, Mark Teixeira…
I remember seeing a bunch of other names on visiting teams moreso however, like Lance Berkman, Barry Zito, Mark Mulder, Aaron Rowand, Mike Lowell, Eric Hinske, Pat Burrell, Eric Byrnes…
The week after we returned from the baseball trip, I took my girlfriend for her first trip to the Cape. She had never been despite having lived in Mass. all her life, which I found stunning. The keystones of the trip were going to the Kream ‘n Kone for some fried clams and, of course, a CArds game. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day than with those two things.
don’t kill me! i am a HUGE hockey fan. i am both a fan of my home team (which i won’t mention, because of the question i’m about to ask), AND the game itself… with that said *about to punch myself*… i ask this question:
is pink a pretty cool hockey color??? those pictures in the ticker weren’t all that bad… you can all hate me now.
I hate you with a passion, please hand in your hockey fan memebership now….
ha! i know, i hate me too for even typing that mess! but i don’t know, with the white ice and mostly white boards, and what-not. i’ll make it up to the hockey world somehow!!!

Does anyone know if the Mets or the Yankess have days like this? Paul, LI Phil, Todd K, anyone?
No, they don’t. I’m guessing Steiner Sports scoops up all of the jerseys and things that other teams would normally sell at a fan fest.
Then they can sell a NY Yankees PJ Pilittere #86 2007 Game Used Spring Training Home BP Jersey for the cheap price of $150.00. UNREAL!

I’m one of the few that did watch the NHL All-Star Game last night for a little bit. Very humorous moment at the start of the game. The announcers were talking to Rick DiPietro, who was the starting goalie for the east. As the puck dropped, and the first period started, they started asking him questions. Just as he’s in the middle of answering a question, the west steals the puck and shoots on him and scores, 12 seconds into the game, a new record. Too funny…….

The must-see landmarks are too many to mention, but some of my favorites are the BeachComber, the Bookstore, Square Dancing on Wednesday Nights at the pier, PJ’s Ice Cream, the Baseball Shop in Orleans, Shop Therapy in P-Town, P-Town in general, not for the feint of heart, etc, etc. One thing I will never forget is our first Saturday on the cape was always grocery day. we would go to Angelo’s in Orleans and my father and I would head straight to the Magazine aisle and pick up Street and Smith’s college football preview. We would buy one copy for each of us and I would have that book memorized by Monday. My father and I didn’t see eye to eye on many things, but college football was our saving grace. Unfortunately he’s now gone but it’s reminders like those that are worthwhile!
It’s also the reason why I am the rarest of anilmals, a Red Sox and Yankee fan. What would I do without either team? It’s easier to just admit that I’m a baseball fan in general!

He plays for the East. Since each player has their own set of gloves for the All-Star Game, I’d assume no player wanted wet, sweaty gloves for the next day, especially if playing against Kaberle. With the Thrashers haveing extra sets of gloves in their locker room, it’s a quick and easy fix.

Sorry to get so off-topic, but this game is played with 2 teams: “Roxanne” and “Red Light” teams, and I think there is 1 or 2 more Roxannes.
Saw the A’s jerseys up close at FanFest, they certainly are terrible. Spoke with equipment manager Steve Vucinich about them and he says that the new black jerseys will become the team’s home alternate while the much better green alternates will become the club’s road alternate jersey. The A’s will also continue to wear white at home and gray on the road.

I haven’t seen any sort of official word on this, but according to that list of 2008 uniform changes that was leaked a while ago, the White Sox black vest does no longer exist.

Thank you. I didn’t read what you said because I figured I’d leave it at what I said, but fair enough. I guess someone will chime in whether we seriously discuss an issue like grownups and say that’s bad and then decry us if we make a dick joke and I guess we’re all just supposed to talk about inseams and stuff and that and only that will pass muster with whoever’s keeping track of such things.
This is a free market economy, I guess. If someone doesn’t like the tone of the discussion, they’re free to not read it or not participate or whatever. Or they can try to steer it one way or another.
But it’s the internet. You’re not going to keep any community that skews towards males of a certain age and with an interest in sports from eventually degenerating (if you like) into baser discussions.

He plays for the East. Since each player has their own set of gloves for the All-Star Game, I’d assume no player wanted wet, sweaty gloves for the next day, especially if playing against Kaberle. No. Each player gets two jerseys and two sets of gloves that can be worn in the game. If you watched during the game, each player had an additional set of equipment in their lockers.
While the NHL puts lots of stuff up for charity, I’m quite certain some lucky winner does not want the smell of sweat permeating their home when they open the “autographed West All-Star Gloves”.
The prevailing rumour was the same thing that happened to Ryan Getzlaf last year at the All-Star Game. Apparently he arrived, but his equipment didn’t.

If the Patriots wore their silver pants with the regular blue socks on the road, would you root for them? I might.
Cosidering the helmet is silver, I don’t think that color is represented enough throughout the rest of the kit.

As an avid hockey fan, I’m used to the fact that it is not a sport that wins popularity contests.
The real Uni-Watch moments (I went to the game) were in the crowd. The link in the ticker was a terrible article by a notoriously terrible newspaper. What I saw at Phillips last night was one of the most impressive collections of authentic jerseys in one place… well at least for hockey.

Actually, the All-Stars had four sets of jerseys, one each for the warm-up, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd periods: one goes to the League, one goes to the player’s home team for their own promotional purposes, one gets auctioned, and one gets kept by the player.

I agree, just awful. Are there no good names left? Its like a updated crappy version of the New Orleans Jazz or St. Louis Blues: both are hommages to the local music scene, but KRUNK?
Okay, follow along because this can get confusing. Two years ago the team was known as the Charlotte Krunk of the American Basketball Association. The team lasted half a season. Last year, the team relocated to the CBA and moved to Atlanta, to be known as the Atlanta Krunk. They secured a playing facility at Morris Brown College, whose sports teams were known as the Wolverines, so for a while the team was going to be called the “Atlanta Krunk Wolverines.” The team even participated in the CBA entry draft. But before the season started, the Krunk Wolverines chose to sit out a year and get their financial house in gear. They re-started for the 2007-08 season as the “Atlanta Krunk” (and were Wolverine-free).
Does that help?
Alright, thank you Paul for bringing up those new A’s alternate jerseys. i mentioned them friday night in the comments section, but no one responded back to me with more photos. now that i see them, i actually don’t think they look that bad. they look really casual with a pair of jeans or with a black and green undershirt, so i would definitely consider buying one. that being said, i have no idea what they’re gunna do with them on the field, and i have a bad feeling about that. if they use their home white pants, the black and white combination with the white shoes is going to look pretty horrible, and the road grays wont be much better. in all i dont think the black jersey should be knocked as bad as it is here, they actually go pretty nicely with a pair of blue jeans; they should probably be limited on the field of play however.

Good call, Neil. I was just checking the info regarding the number, and you’re right. Unfortunately, I can’t find glove info, but if it’s the same as an NHL game, most players have two pairs going all the time.

Yeah you’re right. Independence in this country was won by wearing camo jerseys on the baseball diamond and American flag pins on suit jackets. Yes but were those soldiers wearing camo, ummmmm , no. It was also decided by a bunch of smart, ballsy powdered wig wearing guys in Philadelphia. So is it then a good idea to have the Sox trot out there in powdered wigs? I think not. Wearing camo on the field is dumb, plan and simple. Theoretically it’s not. The problem is with the epidemic of symbolism replacing substance. If you think that the camouflage jerseys don’t have anything to do with the fact that there are two wars going on, well, your wrong. It’s politics, and I don’t like ideology mixed with my baseball.
Our armed forces made it about through about 100 years of organized baseball without the necessity of being “honored” by a stupid looking camouflaged jersey, which frankly, borders on patronizing. It is definitely unnecessary, and over the top is the perfect description for it.

First you gotta get the history right. Take a look at some WWI era unis. Not only that, there were dozens of ceremonies held with MLB teams marching across the field with bats held over their shoulders like guns, etc. MLB were steeped in militarism during that time – far beyond anything you’ll see now.
On the pink front:
Iowa State’s women’s basketball team will wear pink accents (headbands, wristbands, shoelaces, etc.) vs. Missouri Feb. 9.
Surprised that no one mentioned link from last weekend’s FA Cup soccer action in England. Liverpool vs. Havant & Waterlooville FC…two teams that regularly have the same shirt sponsor but H&W changed theirs in an interesting fashion…

Our armed forces made it about through about 100 years of organized baseball without the necessity of being “honored” by a stupid looking camouflaged jersey, which frankly, borders on patronizing. It is definitely unnecessary, and over the top is the perfect description for it.
—–
First you gotta get the history right. Take a look at some WWI era unis. Not only that, there were dozens of ceremonies held with MLB teams marching across the field with bats held over their shoulders like guns, etc. MLB were steeped in militarism during that time – far beyond anything you’ll see now.
At end of the day, the issue is what you think the jerseys are representing. You apparently think it shows respect for the armed forces, while I see it as the quintessential “yellow ribbon on an SUV”, pre-package patriotism for easy consumption, no thought or sacrifice required. Maybe I’m too cynical, but I think it’s bullshit.
While at the Twins Fest, I did pick up 5 game used jerseys that fit my collection perfectly. 3 came from the team store.
They sell coaches, managers, lesser known players and game issued jerseys made up for players who never actually used them in MLB games. It would be nice if the team was more up front about the game used vs. game issued though. Unless you are fanatic who knows each and every guy who made less than 10 games the previous year, you really have no idea if the jersey you are getting actually made it into a game until you do your research at home later on, despite the sign reading “GAME WORN JERSEYS”.
That said, I got a Road blue alt “cool base” jersey, the only current Twins “cool base” jersey since outdoors in the dark jerseys seems to be the only time they worry about getting too hot. No need for it at home under the roof – for now.
I also got a vest alternate, a style which was only worn once last season. It was worn during the first game of a double header, a Metrodome rarity, caused by the game cancelled the day after the 35W bridge collapse.
My last one was a home blue alt with the mother’s day breast cancer awareness pink ribbion, worn only that day. You might not remember the ribbon on the jerseys, but you probably recall the pink bats some players used that day.
All three jerseys above are 2007 jerseys and carry the Herb Carneal Memorial patch.
Then, from a dealer at the baseball card show area, I got a 2000 Twins home blue alt with the Twins 40th Anniversary patch on one sleeve and the “CRG” Calvin Griffith Memorial patch above the “TC” logo on the other sleeve and a 2001 road jersey with the American League 100th Anniversary patch on one sleeve and the USA Flag patch above the name on the back worn after the 9/11 attacks.
Not a bad haul, 5 jerseys of 4 different styles with a total of 8 commemorative or memorial patches.
Surprised that no one mentioned link from last weekend’s FA Cup soccer action in England. Liverpool vs. Havant & Waterlooville FC…two teams that regularly have the same shirt sponsor but H&W changed theirs in an interesting fashion…
That’s awesome.
But you shouldn’t be surprised it wasn’t brought up.
It’s soccer.
And as soon as you bring up soccer around here, people question your manhood and your place of residence and if you’ve ever kissed a girl. God forbid you do it after a sacred day like the Day After the NFL Conference Championship Games, long-recognized by the government and by Hallmark as a gridiron-only zone.
At end of the day, the issue is what you think the jerseys are representing. You apparently think it shows respect for the armed forces,

What I have noticed most about this thread is that almost nobody reads carefully. I hope you all do better when you are reading the international news in the paper or on-line.
I objected only to Paul’s very general assertion that military symbolism on the 4th is bad. In general it isn’t – it’s a good thing. That’s all. Never said camo jerseys is an effective method.
Also symbolism does not preclude substance, they aren’t mutually exclusive.
Hey, JeffB, is Jim Weisner still the Twins’ equipment guy? I met him many years ago and he was a great guy. Just curious if he’s still there.

I hear you, I got a game issued jersey at Pirate Fest, but it was great because it was pretty much brand new. I also got the third base coaches gamer, its really cool, but it’s pretty worn.
1. Anyone know which Riddell factory? There’s one right up the road from me which I would love nothing more than to take a tour of.

but since this board only has one daily thread, (unlike vB or such, with multiple thread capacities), there’s always gonna be something somewhere that peeves peeps…we don’t all need to get along, but we do all need to be civil (and this is NOT directed to anyone, just a general thought)…

In regards to the wearing of camo as athletic uniforms, I appreciate how and why the link go about doing it. San Diego is a temporary home for countless members of the armed services who cheer and support the team. It is a nice tip of the cap to recognize those members of their community. As for Chicago, I have to admit that I am ignorant of the city and it’s ties to the military but think it’s a noble effort.
I do however agree with Phil on the date on which the ballclub should run this promotion, perhaps Veteran’s Day or Armed Service’s Day.
Think of the subtle nod the major leagues give to our dad’s on Father’s day will simple wristbands. Nice touch and tasteful!

To make this uni related, word here is that the Athletic Office is working on new football uniforms with new supplier Adidas and that the ponies will be returning, at least in part, to the uniforms made famous during the Pony Express days: link

It should only be appropriate when you’re on the plane, getting off the plane, the last practice and team meeting before the game, and in the locker room moments before the game. Playing in a event of such a magnitude is crazy surreal. I know I would be rolling the crap outta that thing.

If you think pink is a pretty cool color for a hockey jersey, then you’re entitled to your own opinion. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re a fool or that you “Don’t Get It”. Your opinion doesn’t need validation from complete strangers on an internet blog. Personally, I love purple in moderation and am not a fan of stirrups or a whole lot of stripes. That being said, I actually liked the Purdue women’s jersey but why is the PUR in black and the DUE in white? Or was it vice-versa?

The vest feels backwards.
I like the hats a lot.
Road grays should have blue stirrups to match the brim, which would be consistent with the home whites. Sh*t, who are we kidding? Those stirrups will never show up anyway.
No pictures yet, but I noticed something odd while watching the AHL All-Star Classic tonight. On the front of the team jerseys, there was a Reebok logo on the anatomical left chest, traditionally where the captain “C” usually is. That was the case for all players except the captains for both teams. For the captains, the “C” was in the traditional place, and the Reebok logo was on the anatomical right chest for them. There were also no individual team patches on the All-Star jerseys either. One shoulder for both teams (anatomical right) featured the All-Star Classic logo, the other shoulder was different for both All-Star squads. The Canadian squad had a red maple leaf on their shoulders, and the Planet USA squad had a multicolored star on their shoulders. The game was tonight, so there aren’t many pictures up yet, once some are posted, I’ll post them here.

Alt vest is backwards.
Hat should be solid navy with the “TC” on it home and away. Nice to see they got rid of the pinstripes on the roadies (they already looked like pajamas anyway because they were seemingly sleppwalking), but would have liked to have seen a script “Minnesota” on them.
This is the only game pic I have so far from the AHL All-Star Classic. You can clearly see the position of the Reebok logo on the chest. It was on the other side of the jeresey for both captains. You can also see the shoulders for the Canadian All-Star jerseys.

It looks like, like so many, Lexington is emphasizing the black in their color scheme these days. When “Lex” was my school’s rival twenty-five years ago (go Dusters!), their uniforms were orange and white, with black trim. They looked a lot better that way.
