These fans participated in a walkout in Pittsburgh last night to protest the awfulness of the Pirates … or at least that’s what everyone else is telling you. I think they’re still embarrassed about those red vest jerseys. — Vince

A moment for the passing of link, which under another guise brought us the Orlando Thunder. I won’t even link to that, out of the harm it may do to your retinas.
*I* would protest the red vest jersey if I were a Pirates fan. Everey time I see it, I think “Barnum & Bailey”.
I wish the protest would have drawn more participants. It is shameful that such a tradition-rich organization is being run so miserly. If a team puts a winning product on the field, it will sell seats.
I had forgotten that NFL Europe was born out of the WLAF. The link played on the Sac State campus while I went to school there. Can’t remember if that was before or after the Sacramento Gold Miners of the CFL.
Whenever I see those red jerseys I think: ” You want fries with that?”
Sigh… NFL Europe allowed the league to link with different link… most of which were pretty bad.
Ah, well, we’ll always have the link
I’d say if your team hadn’t had a winning season since 1992, you would have more pressing issues than some butt-ugly red jerseys. Such as the owners refusing to put money into the club to maybe, at some point, win. I’m now a grad student and I’m too young to remember winning baseball out of my favorite team. Once we get over .500, we can attack the jerseys head-on.

Or you could take the opposite approach. They’re not going to win games so they might as well LOOK like a quality team.

Yeah, the Pirates had some of their greatest success wearing link, so I don’t think the uniforms are the problem there.

I’d protest management’s priorities. Instead of putting thought process on how to acquire better players or scouting, they’re thinking “Hmmm, How can we incorporate red in our uniforms?”

I don’t know if there is one place to go look. You may have to go to each teams page and look up the roster. I know the Warriors haven’t updated theirs yet.
The Yankees are so frustrated, they’re lighting fires in the dugout now…..

Gotta be #5. Single digits are just better, plus he’d be only one number away from Dr. J.
excuse my choice of words but it has to be said the red pirates jerseys are absolute shit!
i am not a pirates fan (mets fan… yeah we got some bad unis too) but i have friends at pitt i got and visit and i’ve been too maybe 15 or 20 pirates games soo i feel like they’re my team just a little bit too…
any way i hate the red look, i’ve never liked the vests i mean are you that cheap!? spring for some damn sleeves its not like you spending it on the team right?. but one thing that saves the vests is the font the pittsburgh pirates have the nicest jersey font in the league. ohh and the stadium the stadium is also one of the nicests in the league.

I’m assuming you’re not THE Bill Campbell, because he would certainly disagree with your post… as do I, and many other residents who don’t use “Philly” unless talking about a region (South Philly for example) and don’t need to see a nickname on a uniform. PHILA is a perfectly acceptable abbreviation for Philadelphia, and has historical significance.

I just got back from holiday to discover my membership card had arrived in the post. Great stuff.
Word to Pittsburgh fans: don’t schedule a walkout against a team that you will potentially beat. Wait until the Mets or the Padres or someone good comes to town so that you’ll be sure to be losing when the walkout occurs. Thanks to a 6-run second for the buccos, the walkout lost all its steam.
Also, the best way to get your message to the owners is to not buy tickets to the game. Hit ’em in the checkbook where it hurts these owners the most.
The picture in this article is interseting. Giorgos Printezis is holding a Spurs hat(team that drafted him) and a Raptors hat(team that acquired him). You dont normally see this.

LOL, of course they do, however South Philly is more an arbitrary designation than a geopolitical subdivision. Maybe if they were a rec team playing in an intra-Phila. league that had representatives from North Philly, Northern Liberties, West Philly, Port Richmond, etc. it might be appropriate.
Some pretty embarrassing uni moments at last night’s NIFL (National Indoor Football League) game between the visiting San Bernardino Bucking Bulls and the San Diego Shockwave.
First, this player for San Bernardino is wearing the wrong color link. Then you have different font sizes for the last names on the Shockwave jerseys. Number 71 for the Shockwave appears to be link a link under his jersey. And finally, somebody should really tell #59 to wear a bigger jersey, or at least link the one he has on.
Ah, minor league arena football. Shockwave link, improving to 10-1.

The point of buying the tickets and then leaving is that not buying tickets doesn’t make a difference. Because of profit sharing the Pirates were the third most profitable team in baseball last year, raking in $25.7million. With the fourth worst record. The team has money, and is pocketing it. I thought the whole team was supposed to wear #22 for Buck O’Neill, but instead they are wearing the number on the cap. For some reason, they are also wearing a 42 patch on their sleeve.

#2 was retired for Malik Sealy after he was killed in a car wreck.
I should also add that Sealy was Kevin Garnett’s favorite player growing up. Sealy wore #2 withthe Wolves because KG wore #21 for the Wolves because Sealy wore #21 at St. John’s, so Sealy couldn’t wear his own number, sorta.
I vaguely recall that that Patriots logo re-do from the late 70s or early 80s was painted in one of the end zones and that the team had an applause-type contest between Pat Patriot and the proposed, stupid script “P”.

The White Sox are wearing Chicago American Giants uniforms. The Royals are wearing KC Monarchs unis.

An answer to my own question (from mlb.com):
“After his one season in the Negro American League, on the appropriate date of October 23 — he had worn uniform No. 23 as the Monarchs shortstop — Robinson and, though buried by history, teammate pitcher John Wright both were signed into Organized Baseball by Branch Rickey.”
I also found link picture, which is a different uni than the Royals are wearing today (the one in the photo could be a road uni) with a clue on the pants that Robinson might not have worn #23 either.

— One thing is clear: The preseason rumble that new/old bench coach John McLaren would be the next manager has come true. That means the Mariners are in a better position today to resolve the issue that transcends the seasonal outcome — the re-signing of Ichiro.
The superstar outfielder admitted early differences with Hargrove, but acknowledged no current grudge.
“At the beginning, there were complications between us,” he said post-game through an interpreter. “Since then, I’ve honestly expressed my feelings to him. He listened to them honorably and very gentlemanlike. That’s a strong memory I’ll have.”
He didn’t say they were on the same page. In fact, Ichiro recounted an episode in which he asked the skipper to wear a regular game jersey instead of the traditional garb of rotund managers, the link.
“He did, and I was the leadoff batter in the game,” Ichiro said. “I hit a home run.”
The wardrobe high-function didn’t last. Those who enjoy dissecting Ichiro’s passion for symbolism and metaphor will have a field day with that one. But it’s safe to say that some of the baseball values Ichiro favors were not found in abundance with Hargrove. —
