Looks like Mayweather could use 50 Cent‘s help again, don’t you think?
You know, all famous athletes should have someone else who’s famous follow them around and carry their trophies. Let’s see if Snoop Dogg will follow Omar Vizquel around with all of his gold gloves. (I know you can make better comparisons than that, so let’s see them in the comment section.)
Whether in celebration of Cinco de Mayo (suuuuuure), or for other reasons, or for a combination of both, Mayweather entered the ring wearing this interesting outfit (note that the sombrero is on backwards). To explore some of the racial undercurrents of the fight, check out this article.

I know it said “Golden Boy” on the front of De La Hoya’s trunks but what did it say on the back? I didn’t watch the fight and really don’t care about it but I’m curious nonetheless.

Once again, a De La Hoya fight doesn’t live up to the hype. Did anyone notice the look on the face of the ring-side interviewer (don’t remember his name) whenever he talked to Floyd Jr? He asked three questions and got one loooong answer. I think De La Hoya’s trunks say Altuina and Jordan, his kids. One other uni related note, did anyone notice the second undercard? Juarez looked like he was wearing Jordan Trunners. No pics right now, I’ll keep looking.

In the Juarez/Hernandez fight, Hernandez had “Juarez” placed diagonally on the front of his shorts . At least that’s what it looked like to me. He also had light green gloves on that were really bothering me. Can’t find pics either.

After a cursory search of si.com, they don’t seem to be very consistent. Steve Nash, Ronny Turiaf, Tim Duncan – No country mentioned. Tony Parker, Nene, Dirk Nowitzki – country of origin mentioned.

Tennessee is also wearing those Worth helmets that were a big thing here when Georgia Tech wore them.
Speaking of the Brady Quinn video clip and helmets they also showed Quinn wearing his Riddell ‘Revolution’ helmet in his first workouts with the Browns. (That is the same large, bulbous helmet with the field hockey mask he wore at Notre Dame.)

I did read that he did switch from #22 in case Clemens wanted to wear it when he pitches on the third Friday of every month during night games only when the temperature is between 70 and 75 degrees only in cities with an “S” in their name, or whatever the deal is.
But I ALSO read that Cano took #24 because it’s an inversion of 42, which apparently was worn by link.

FC Barcelona famously doesn’t take jersey sponsors (the unicef promotion is charitable). But watching yesterday’s game, I couldn’t help but notice the #3 link. A little digging around shows that’s the link. Local rival Espanyol also sports the patch. Thing is that the channel doesn’t even appear to carry Barca’s games, so the patch can’t be construed as self-promotion. Looks like sponsorship to me, even if it is minor.

Well, an obvious difference is that one is silver and the other is green.
All kidding aside, it’s quite common to mix and match helmets and face masks. Face masks can easily be swapped using a screwdriver. Therefore, Stanton probably requested the identical Riddell non-Revo helmet and the same model face mask, in Lions colors, of course.

Remember the maroon jersey thing that the Houston Dynamos did to raise money for the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund? Apparently they rose link . Also, the Richmond Kickers of the United Soccer League played an exhibition against the Virginia Tech men’s soccer team (Kickers won 3-2) and raised link . Don’t know about the D.C. United fundraiser though. More info link .
Uni-related: VT usually wears solid whites with maroon lettering at home, and link with no maroon link , which I think is silly since Clemson and UVA have been wearing orange in the ACC for a long time. (Sometimes they link , but you get the idea). It’s been a while since VT wore a maroon jersey.
So it seems kinda strange for Houston and D.C. United to link – especially since the link is closer to VT’s actual jerseys!
I like Houston’s orange socks/white shorts/maroon jersey look, though, because VT always seems to stick with white/maroon and orange/white – almost never do they wear the unique maroon/orange that only a Hokie could love.
I also noticed from the VT-Richond game that Tech is still wearing their adidas jerseys. VT athletics signed a Nike contract last fall for all sports. So either the Hokies are saving their Nike duds for the regular season or Nike needs to get on the ball!

It’s an old picture from the uniform unveiling ceremony at HSBC Arena…apparently the chest numbers were an afterthought. They might have to remove them if the Sabres can get past Ottawa (a BIG if). I’m with you on the pants and lids point though, the mix-and-match look sucks.

When Debi Thomas wore pants–the whole skating world gasped in horror and ripped her a new one (not to mention she was African American). I don’t think I’ve seen a woman wear pants for competition since.
Min, if the Twins auction off unis this year I’ll be after Sidney Pontoon’s because it’ll fit me.
Thank goodness he isn’t pitching next Sunday when I’m there – looks like Boof vs. Bonderman.

Yeah, but sometimes major leaguers on assignment get exempt from those little dress code rules. I remember hearing how Chris Carpenter got to wear his pants down while playing for the Memphis Redbirds, even though everybody else had to wear their trousers correctly.

Yeah, but Clemens signed a minor-league contract with a letter agreement for a $28 million salary at the Major League level. SO technically, he’s a minor leaguer, until he’s added to the 40-man roster when his contract is purchased.
