With all these crazy cold-weather games that have been going on, I’ve found myself wondering, “Who the hell would go to a ballgame under these conditions?” I mean, I can sort of understand if it’s Opening Day, but who would bother to show up at the ballpark for a game when the temperature’s below freezing?
Matthew Lepke, that’s who. He attended Saturday’s Twins/Chisox game in Chicago, where the game-time temp was 31 degrees. Despite the frigid conditions, he managed to take some great photos — mainly of the players dealing with the frigid conditions. Here’s his report:
Nick Punto wore a stocking cap/toque under his game cap. I wonder how many cap sizes he had to go up to pull this off. At first Torii Hunter wore a balaclava, but later on he just slapped his stocking cap over his game cap (I never knew how cool I was as a kid sledding back home in Iowa with this look until I saw Torii do it). First base coach Jerry White went with the hoodie-under-jersey look the whole day. I can’t blame him — I had four layers on and was still cold.
I know I speak for everyone when I thank Matthew for being foolhardy intrepid enough to brave the elements on our behalf. Next time we’ll have the Uni Watch St. Bernard at the ready to bring him a nip of hooch during the 7th inning stretch.
There was also plenty of cold-weather headgear on display yesterday in Pittsburgh, as you can see in these pics of Yadier Molina, Adam LaRoche (here’s another shot), and Jack Wilson. And in case you were wondering, yes, all those knitted hats are fully MLB logo-fied.
But wait, this just in: It turns out that Uni Watch intern Vince Grzegorek himself was in attendance at Friday’s game in Cleveland. He’s now thawed out enough to deliver the following dispatch:
Dressing for the Indians’ 2007 opener was like dressing for a Browns game. My strategy at staying warm included three to four shirts, double-layer socks, hat, gloves, jacket, and sweatpants under the jeans. Even then, the snow delays eventually wore away my defenses and I yearned for some little heat packs to put in my gloves.
When Cleveland decided not to cancel the game before it even started, I was pumped. This is our weather. Snow, cold, and wind. Lake Erie was going to be our Monster this day. Seattle was playing in our elements, and no amount of face-warmers or long-sleeve shirts could prepare them for what they were about to endure. Then a snow delay. Then a snow delay. And by the time Paul Byrd was working on a no-hitter in the 4th inning and he was walking guys left and right and shaking off pitches, I knew that the lack of hits was as much a testament to the weather as to Byrd’s arsenal, if not more. Santana may have the change-up, Dice-K may have the gyro Ball, but Byrd had the unhittable Lake Effect Flurry Ball, if just for one day. Too bad he won’t be able to throw it in Milwaukee.
Incidentally, speaking of cold weather, there were lots of comments yesterday about a new line of MLB parkas with a very, uh, subtle logo. Love to have been present at the design meeting where that was approved.
Let the Chatter Begin: Because of relaxed pace of play, baseball offers more opportunities for uni-related banter among broadcasters than any other sport. Reader Blaine Williams alerted me to just such an exchange that took place between Reds announcers George Grande and Chris Welsh during Sunday’s Reds/Pirates game. We pick up the discussion just as Adam Dunn has taken a borderline called third strike that appeared to be low”¦
Welsh: The only way Adam Dunn’s going to get that low strike called consistently a ball is to hike those pants of his up around the knee, and I don’t think it’s worth the loss of style points for him.
Grande: Ain’t gonna happen. Fashion statement. In this day and age. Remember when you played? You had to wear the stirrup socks for the Reds. You got fined if you didn’t.
Welsh: That’s right. Your uniform came with an inseam about 25 inches long, and you had no other choice but to hike those babies up. You were showin’ legs whether you had calves or not.
A few thought spring to mind here: (1) Hiking up one’s pants constitutes a loss of style points? (2) Even if the preceding sentiment were true, Dunn would rather strike out than go high-cuffed? (3) “Whether you had calves or not”?
Uni Watch News Ticker: The Twins, as promised, have removed their memorial black armband for broadcaster Herb Carneal and replaced it with a sleeve patch, which features a microphone and the word “Herb”. ”¦ Iowa State’s football team is switching to gold pants for the 2007 season. In addition, the school expects to have a completely new uniform (including gold pants) for 2008, and is inviting fans to send in their design ideas. Full details, including a link to video of the press conference where this was all announced, here. ”¦ Back in February, I mentioned that Dominican University’s teams are called the Penguins, because Dominican is a Catholic school that used to be run by nuns. Now Brandon Davis, who’s the school’s sports info director, has sent along some photos of the school’s lacrosse team. “Coach Ned Webster and I came up with the ‘look of a Penguin’ for our team’s uniforms,” he writes. “The unis are black with white chests, like a penguin. The helmets are black and the chin is white to blend in with the chest. Unfortunately, the referee today said that regulations on lacrosse unis are probably changing next year — jerseys will have to be full blocks of color, which means that the penguin design would become illegal. We’ll see how that plays out.” ”¦ Davis also provided a photo of a softball team with a very unusual sock design. Logo creep issues notwithstanding, that’s one weird pattern — anyone ever seen this before? ”¦ Brian Roberts is about the last guy I’d expect to be wearing white shoes. ”¦ Reader Jeff Barak has found two hockey videos full of cool uni- and equipment-related stuff. The first one, an hour-long fan’s history of the Winnipeg Jets, is available here, and is essential viewing. It includes a short music video for a song called “Dale Hawerchuk,” by a French-Canadian band called the Dale Hawerchuks, which is available by itself below:
I’ll be off the grid today (yet another birthday — this time my Mom’s), so talk amongst yourselves. Back tomorrow.
By the way, I was at the Giants game on Friday night at Benji Molina wore a stocking cap underneath his bating helmet, not sure about catchers mask
I guess my first comment didn’t post. Anyways what I said was I was wondering why the Giants never seem to do throwback jerseys very oftern when it seems like most teams wear them fairly often. I know last season they busted out the orange unis from I believe 1976. But I would love to see them bring back the Will Clark era threads of the late 80s and early 90s
The thoroughness of the Uni Watch faithful encourages laziness in schlubs like me. I was watching the Reds/Pirates game mentioned by Paul, and gave some thought to using the greatness of Tivo to back things up and write down the conversation about Adam Dunn’s pants for submission to Uni Watch.
After some careful thought, I decided that someone else (or multiple someone elses) would be hard at work on it, and that I should save my time and energy. Bingo, here it is in today’s entry.
Nothing gets by the faithful.
Does the arc of the “NEW YORK†on the Yankees road unis look very staight compared to previous seasons ,It just looks very staight across the jersey.

McCormick beat me to it. They are Nike Soccer socks for sure. Part of their template for the club teams that came out last year. Man U and Arsenal both featured these socks w/ thier Alternate jerseys.
Yesterday on PTI, Wilbon was going crazy over a golfer at the Masters (Can’t remember who at this time) about wearing white pants before labor day. I mean he was going crazy saying it was inappropriate and he should be removed from course to change pants. Isn’t this going a little extreme? I mean this rule isn’t set in stone, and is it really that closely regulated by any sports teams or individual athletes? Maybe it is and I haven’t been paying close enough attention. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

just saw this in the Globe today:
The Sox are planning to wear vintage uniforms from 1967 this afternoon, part of the tribute to the Impossible Dreamers. Longtime Larry Lucchino pal George Mitrovich deserves an assist; he coaxed Ebbets Field Flannels in Seattle to make the uniforms on very short notice. They were delivered Saturday .
Did anyone notice that one girls pants appears to have the MLB logo on it, but the others don’t? Just curious.
I went to the Texas Rangers opening night on saturday with a gametime temp of 38 and it only got colder. You know what? I wore ONE jacket and a cap. Know what the players wore? Baseball caps! MAN IT UP!!! Kevin Milwood didn’t even wear long sleeves.
And remember those uniforms for the ball girls the Rangers got designed by True, those were worth every penny. Those ladies look amaing!
I will say, however, my voice isn’t back yet.
Socks. When in doubt, it’s usually a soccer sock. Especially when High Schools use them.

The previous posters are all correct about those NIKE soccer socks. I wanted to chime in because I remember those socks coming up during our discussion of unique High School football uniforms. I don’t remember which school had them, but I think we had this exact conversation.
I was at the Pirates/Cards game yesterday and, to supplement that picture of Molina, you should know that he removed his full-face covering while he was batting and it then was hanging out the back of his jersey like a mini-hood. No pics, but I was just surprised he wore it on defense but not when he was batting / on-base.

The Cards’ TV announcers (Dan McLaughlin and Al Hrabosky) referenced this during one of Molina’s at-bats, saying Yadier was using “the Bill Belichek look”… Dan then mused, “How much does Belichek spend on his wardrobe?” “Not much,” was the reply… (chuckle!)

That might be a coach, I’m not sure, but I did notice the person on the left had an MLB logo on the back pocket.
I’ve been to a few games sub-freezing at Mile High and Coors. As long as it isn’t too wet or windy, it’s great. In the stands that’s much easier to deal with than the summer days where its over 85.
It would be a somewhat different story if I were trying to hit or catch the ball.

That’s Ian Poulter. He always has wild clothes. I followed him around during a practice round last year, and he was by far the nicest golfer to the fans. He gave kids like 5 or 6 balls on the hole I was on.

It probably is not the coach since she is wearing a glove.
Another note on golfer Ian Poulter:
The Union Jack slacks that he wore at the 2004 British Open were sold for charity. They raised $10,000, which is brilliant–for Yorkville Children’s Hospital in Scotland.

Random thought on the various 42s that will be present on the 15th: shouldn’t there be something against having repeat jersey numbers on one team, let alone having 5 #42 jerseys at once?
I propose that except for the Yankees (who have the last regular 42, Mariano Rivera), every team should have its second baseman wear 42, and then call it a day. It would make the 42 really stand out, it would be a great tribute to Jackie Robinson, who played second base, and it wouldn’t be immensely confusing for the fans. But if one team must go overboard, it might as well be the Dodgers, on condition that they get Brooklyn ball caps for the game.
In the video the goalie is putting his leggers on the wrong legs. By the end of the video they have magically switched to the correct legs.

Well, dunno about anybody else, but I, by gum, wore my light blue pinfeather suit to church Easter Sunday… despite the fact that it was 38 degrees outside! (grin)
(And for those of you who don’t know what a “pinfeather” suit is; think the TV character “Matlock”… although I’m far less sloppy! )
As an alumnus of Iowa State, I’m worried. While there is a chance that a decent uniform can come from this, I still remember shiny gold pants with a cardinal top that hurt the eyes to look at. And there is always the chance that they could take the “easy road” and just take whatever weird templates that Nike or some other outfitter gives them.
Hey now. I saw Paul Byrd’s debut for the Phillies against Arizona (and Randy Johnson) at the Vet.

Since someone made a Coach Homeless reference, I’ll report a bit of info I posted here during the meltdown ealier this year. Here it is again, since it slipped through the cracks the first time:
According to friend inside the Patriots team, Bill Belichek does his own tailoring. He cuts his own hoodies to shreds, according to team sources. Also, the chances of getting out of the team’s facilities with a real Bill Belichek hoodie is slim, since he’s the only one on the team who wears a size Large sweatshirt.
Just a small item I thought the faithful would enjoy.

That is awesome that Poulter does that. There should be more golfers who do that. Shigeki Maruyama never wears the same shirt twice on the PGA Tour, and after each round he donates it to charity, or auctions it off for charities.
Getting back to the whole “Not wearing white before labor day” issue… is it really that big of a deal? Do people really get offended like Wilbon did yesterday on PTI? More importantly (to this board) do sports teams take this into consideration when dressing for games?

Good call about Justin Rose. I believe Ian Poulter wore them on Thursday or Friday, but I can’t seem to find a picture. They had about a one inch thick orange stripe down the side of them, in true Ian Poulter fashion.
Check this out, he wore pants that had a question mark on the pant leg once:

The Twins patch (from those shots) looks like the classic “good on a screen, not so much on a jersey” patch.
Whew, I found Ian Poulter’s white/orange pants from Saturday.

The caption of the picture says: Guess who? Yes, golfing clothes horse Ian Poulter was suited and booted in customary fashion on Saturday.

I guess “going crazy” was a bad choice of words. I must have been watching a different show than you were, then……
Oh man…the return of the blue and white stripes in the stirrups. I can’t wait to see how they look. Hopefully some of the guys who don’t normally wear the high socks do it up today. I’d love to see Ortiz with those striped stirrups.
Most likely though, we’ll only see Tek and Timlin.
Those socks on the softball team are soccer socks. I think a lot of Nike-outfitted teams are wearing them, including link, Carolina.
Sorry forgot link.
After watching the Mets massacre their opening day unis yesterdy, I got to wondering: Why does Majestic make different versions of the “Premiere” jacket, like the nice blue and orange one someone posted a pic of here last week or the blue and black one that came out right before last year’s playoffs, and yet the ballclub doesn’t use it? That would solve the whole issue of “wearing blue caps with the black dugout jacket” that Charlie Smauels cites as the reason the team wears the black caps so much. If they wore the blue and orange jackets at home and the black and blue jackets on the road, the problem would be solved.
It wouldn’t even be the first time a team does it, since the Tigers wear the black/white dugout jackets at home and the black/orange dugout jackets on the road, and I think one year the Braves wore blue dugout jackets at home and grey ones on the road……

Yeah, I wear Nike soccer socks when I play softball (I can’t bear to wear fake-stirrup socks); they’re high, which provides protection against sliding, and they fit well. Plus, in the HOT Houston summers, wearing full pants is a BAD idea.

You know, kind of like when they goof on Dan LeBatard; I don’t think THEY hate LeBatard, but they pick up on the fact that viewers do and they just run with it.
I guess “going crazy” was a bad choice of words. But, I watch PTI usually every day and can distinguish when they are joking around and being serious, and it sounded to me that he took the issue seriously rather than with a joking manner. Nevertheless, it still is a weird topic to even joke around with.
I thought it was you couldn’t wear white AFTER labor day. Oh well what do I know, I’m wearing socks with sandals! :P
I have a lot of respect for Paul in a lot of areas, but deriding baseball diehards for loving the game enough to go in all conditions. What kind of fan only wants to go to games only when it’s 70? The same kind of fan that can’t make the first pitch and leaves in the seventh inning to avoid traffic.
I braved last Wednesday’s White Sox-Indians game in Chicago, with gametime temperatures at around freezing with winds gusting up to 40 mph. I had a great time, just like I do at any baseball game. I also had tickets to a Triple-A game in Indianapolis only to have it called on account of “cold.” By my estimation, that game would have started under sunny skies with a gametime temp of around 35.
What wusses!

I don’t know about that. I went to a Met/Yankee game at Shea a few years ago in freezing rain. It was an awesome game (til friggin’ Benitez was called in to close) but I don’t think I would go to a game in those conditions again. I was sick for a week afterwards.
Just my $0.02.

I think it’s odd that Oregon State says they’re the first school to use an “OS” to represent an “OSU”, when Oklahoma State used a logo extremely similar to that new on throughout the 1980s. It never showed up on football uniforms, but Oklahoma State’ interlocking OS were found on baseball and wrestling uniforms.
Couldn’t find a good link to a picture of the OS on a Cowboy uniform, but it’s at the top of this page, just for reference sake.

I think the point the article is making is that the MAIN logo will be the interlocking OS, whereas OK State still has the OSU logo.
Considering the link it doesn’t look like the BoSox will be wearing any sort of throwbacks today.

Two things-
1. Kinda ironic we talk about the Mets getting rid of the black and there’s Robin Ventura front and center in the black uni
2. This cold game thing is getting ridiculous…I mean you can understand cancelling games cuz of snow, but just b/c it’s cold!! Would they do that for the World Series?!?! I think not. I bet it’s as cold in these April months as it was in the World Series this past year.

1998 was the year. My friend Mark (from college) visited me since he hadn’t been to Philly before. I called the Phillies ticket office and we had two field-level tickets for the game. Paul Byrd (“Who’s that?” we asked) outpitched Randy Johnson.
The Phils had an Elvis impersonator sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Which was a disaster that the entire crowd booed. (And Mark laughed hard.)
I’m watching the game right now and there’s no evidence of a 1967 throwback jersey. If anything they should do the 1975 jersey with the red hats

The rule is not to wear white after Labor Day. No one really follows that much anymore though. The white pants don’t really bother me. The white belt with the black pants, however, is a very different story.

Word up! Of course, plenty of Texans don’t even own a winter coat. When we get a cold snap here, you see people wearing layered get-ups like a hoodie with a windbreaker over it.
Coldest game I’ve ever attended was this link. Box score says it was 45 degrees, but there is no way in hell it was that warm. Plus, we were in the upper deck, with nothing to shield the wind coming off the lake. I actually enjoy cold weather, but it was two-pairs-of-pants BRUTAL that day. We left to watch the ninth inning indoors at the Cubby Bear.
Astoundingly, Kerry Wood (from Grand Prairie, TX; one town over from Arlington) went 8 innings, gave up only 3 hits and struck out 13 in that game. And his link, who also pitched well, was linked earlier in this thread.
If they wore the blue and orange jackets at home and the black and blue jackets on the road, the problem would be solved.

i went to the tigers/royals game on friday with my nine-year-old daughter. it was about 30 degrees at game time with a pretty steady 25 mph “breeze” blowing through. i posted this on another board but wanted to share it here, too.
the wind was ridiculous. each of us were sporting:
2 long sleeve t-shirts
1 thick hooded sweatshirt
1 heavy winter coat
gloves/stocking cap/scarf
…and we shared a thick stadium blanket. nothing worked. we got hot chocolate but it was cool by the time we walked back to our seats. there was a group of college kids behind us who were thinking of getting some. i warned them that if they wanted it to make any difference, they had to slam it at the counter as soon as they got it. one of them ended up getting some nachos but the cheese had turned back into a solid block of velveeta by the time he got back to his seat. he just ended up with chips. the beer vendors were walking around with beer bottles in tubs of ice but when they pulled out a bottle, it was dry; it was too cold for the ice to melt.
it was supposed to be “meet the royals” night and some of the players were supposed to be out signing autographs if you got there at 5:45 for the 7:10 game. the team decided to call off the autograph session because of the cold. then they called off batting practice. the people who had been there 90 minutes before the game got nothing but a chance to see the players run a few sprints a couple minutes before game time. luke hudson was out playing soft-toss before the game with jason larue. as soon as they were finished, larue ran back to the clubhouse (can’t blame him) but hudson came over and signed autographs for anyone who wanted one, smiling, joking with the kids, posing for pics, etc. he got major props for that. that was something he didn’t have to do but did for the people who brought their kids out there. he was the only one who decided that if we could stand out there for a while waiting to see some players, he could at least spend a little time with us. my daughter has no idea who signed her baseball, but i became an instant luke hudson fan.
on a uni-related note, all the tigers wore long sleeves, some with hoods. for the royals, alex gordon (3rd base) and ryan gload (LF) wore short sleeves. the gift shop was selling various stocking caps for $20+. had we not brought our own caps, getting bent over like that would have seemed like a pretty decent proposition.

Why would a team wear a throwback for a home opener. Isn’t that an area for gripe, I mean if a team wears an alternate jersey in game 2 of the season and gets blasted. Shouldn’t everyone be happy that the Red Sox are wearing their regular home jerseys. I mean isn’t a throwback just another alternate jersey.

Skott, where did you get this info?
based on pacman jones’ 1 year suspension, does anyone else feel that chris henry got away with a light slap on the wrist with only an 8 game suspension?
also if you read the statement released by the titans, you will see them referring to him as adam now… its good for press releases about his criminal behavior but not the back of his jersey when he represents the team, right?
just a little FYI, it was 62’F last night in Oakland, ahhh excellent ball weather, but the A’s lost. Maybe next year MLB can schedule a lot more games down south rather than having this mess, but hindsight is 20/20.

Sorry about getting the Tigers’ colors wrong. But in all honesty, I really couldn’t care less whether the Tigers’ colors are black and orange, navy and orange, purple and orange, teal and orange, or any other color combination under the sun.
My point, which seems to have been lost on everyone who couldn’t wait to jump on me for an honest mistake, is that other teams use different home and away dugout jackets, which would solve a problem for the METS (the one team that I DO care about) in that they can use the blue jackets at home with the blue caps, and the black jackets on the road with the black caps.

I think part of what led to the harsher suspension for Crapman is that he tried to cover up two instances in which he was involved in with the police by not reporting them to the team. At least Chris Henry, for all his problems, didn’t hide anything.

Thank you! Finally someone who has seen the light. It’s what I’ve been saying for the longest time.
I actually held up the KC Royals as the shining example of how to use black: They did exactly what you suggested above, wearing white and royal at home and black/blue caps with greys on the road.
I actually don’t have a problem with the black alternates, as long as they use them as, oh I don’t know, alternates, instead of almost like a third uni.
I don’t know if someone has this statistic, but it would be interesting to see how much the Mets used their pinstripes vs. their black “alternates” the past few seasons. I would hazard a guess and say that it’s at least 2-1 in favor of the blacks. Which is just plain sad.

I don’t fundamentally have a problem with the black uni’s but I do have a problem with teams having more than one alternate. If you want a black one, then get rid of the snow white’s.
I look at the yankee uni’s and everyone thinks they’re beautiful and iconic. I believe they are iconic but could they aesthetically be better? Sure they could. But they are iconic because they don’t get changed. They are good enough and are left alone. K.I.S.S.
I agree, the Mets wear the black hats way too much. The Mets not only should use the blue hats at home, but also on the road. On Sundays, they could break out the black hat/blue bill for home and away games.
Also, too many teams moved to black over the past few years; Mets, Reds, Royals, Rangers, and Blue Jays off the top of my head (but kudos to the Reds and Royals for going away from the black, and also the A’s for going back to the green alternates after that one year of wearing black alternates).

Yes, but still better than the snow white caps of ’97. I can’t believe that I actually purchased one of those. I was such a dork.
link
What were you thinking? Just kidding, of course. I have one of those; I got it on one of their cap days, though, so I at least can take comfort in the fact that I did not part with any hard-earned cash for it.
I have no excuse for myself. Spent money I did not have on a hat I ultimately did not wear. Bad bad Shaftman!!! That being said, why can’t they just wear their home caps at home and their road caps on the road. I am not completely against the black caps but not all the friggin’ time.
Keep it simple…
Home Games:
Monday to Saturday – Blue caps with pinstripe unis.
Sundays -Snow white unis with blue caps
Road Games – Grey uni’s with Black cap/blue brim.
Get rid of all black uni’s and all black cap.
Gregg kept those stats all last year along with their record in each uni. My argument against the “jacket should match the cap” train of thought is that you care more about what you look like when you’re not playing than when you are playing! All in all lose the black jacket for good. When was the last ime you saw them in road greys with a blue cap?

I had forgotten about the A’s black unis. Ugh were those horrible.
If I’m not mistaken (and I’m sure there won’t be a shortage of people on here ready to point it out), the Rangers use it sparingly, only on their caps and as a dropshadow. Correct? That doesn’t seem so bad to me.
The A’s, on the other hand, seemingly went with black for no other reason than to just jump on the bandwagon and have a black alternate uni.

You’re correct about the Rangers, but I think they’d be fine with just blue numbers and a red outline around them.

To the proud Texans calling for the rest of us to “man up” in colder weather: I’m from Iowa; I know how to prepare for the cold.
We have two things back home–fairly cold winters (I drove an hour and a half to a hockey game in high school when it was -28F ambient; actually a pretty sweet night since the sky was so clear and dark) and Masters champions! (I have to prop my fellow Iowan Zach Johnson…) I know other states have more champions, so I’m not comparing, but it’s a big deal for us. Zach’s a character guy and he showed his priorities were in order for Easter in his link as the victor.
i went to the tigers/royals game on friday with my nine-year-old daughter. it was about 30 degrees at game time with a pretty steady 25 mph “breeze” blowing through. i posted this on another board but wanted to share it here, too.
the wind was ridiculous. each of us were sporting:
Lucky for me I was out of town over the weekend or I’m sure I would have ended up at the ballpark, and probably frozen to death. One time I was at a game and got a little chilly (it was nowhere near as cold as you described), so I went into the gift shop and picked up one of link. I cannot bring myself to type the price my stupid ass paid for it, but a few days later I saw it on several websites for about $35 cheaper. Ouch. Nice and warm, though.

Don’t know how many people caught the Roma-Man Utd match this afternoon but if you didn’t, you missed the definition of good unis. Nice, clean lines. Good colours. And, on Roma in particular, good name and number fonts. I also liked United’s number font (they wore something special, in gold, for the Champion’s League). Unfortunately, I can’t screen grab anything but hopefully if someone did, they can post them.

And remember those uniforms for the ball girls the Rangers got designed by True, those were worth every penny. Those ladies look amaing!

It didn’t seem too cold, even with the wind coming at me so I was glad to see the players not doing anything in the line of stocking caps etc.

Not being familiar with the Brooklyn Dodgers’ unis, were those caps and unis used for more than one year? Becaue if so, it’s odd that Majestic would go with a powder-blue motif for the Dodgers’ jacket instead of the traditional royal & white.

Always thought the Red Sox patriot stirrups were among the best. I didn’t realize that Boston used navy helmets during their unfortunate elastic waistband era. Weren’t the caps red with navy bills?
During tonight’s Reds/Diamondbacks game, a highlight from 1998 was shown, featuring Reggie Sanders hitting a home run.
The Diamondbacks’ announcers then mocked Sanders’ pants for being too tight (“Reggie, what were you thinkin?” and “That was another time”). Now while I am not a fan of the supertight pants, good ol’ Reggie looked a lot better with his tight pants that stopped at the ankles than today’s slobs in their pajamas that drag on the ground.
Also of note was the pitcher, Andy Benes. He had his pants (which were also very tight) hiked up to his knees, showing off his purple stirrups. I don’t recall many players sporting that look back in 1998.
