New ESPN column today — here’s the link.
Meanwhile: There’s something fucked up about Opening “Day” taking place on Sunday night. ESPN’s Sunday-evening season opener isn’t a new phenomenon, natch, but this is the first time the Mets have been involved in it, and it messed with my head something fierce. Opening Day usually means I blow off work, take the phone off the hook, and revel in that sense of playing hooky that weekday baseball provides (granted, I work out of my home, don’t have a boss, and usually take a nap in the afternoon anyway, but still ”¦). It feels like a special event, because you actually back-burner other stuff to make room for it. But what sort of crucial Sunday-night plans could I possibly postpone in order to make room for watching a ballgame? Like, cleaning the grout in my bathroom or something? So even though I watched the game in the fine company of Uni Watch design director Scott M.X. Turner, his lovely wife Diane George, and Watch Your Back honcho Brian Corrigan (who does an excellent imitation of the Fitzy’s Wicked Pissah guy), something felt oddly askew the entire night. This wasn’t quite as bad as 2000, when I had to wake up at 5:30 a.m. to watch the Mets open their season in Japan (I swear, it took months before I got my internal clock back in order after that one), but it still felt really strange, sorta like being jet-lagged.
Anyway: The big uni news last night was that the “Y” on Shawn Green’s jersey was inexplicably superscript (big thanks to Jason Mattina for the screen grab), an error that can presumably be laid at Majestic’s door, although let’s also blame Mets equipment manager Charlie Samuels for not catching it. Since Green had more hits last night than he had all of last season, I expect we’ll see everyone else on the team adopting this same typographic quirk pronto.
Other notes from last night’s game:
• The gold outlining on the Cards’ jerseys (which is just a temporary thing for the first three games of the season) was mighty subtle, although I’m told it was more discernable in HD. Additional views here and here.
• Cap patches always look so totally lame-o.
• Judging by all the gray underbills that were visible out there, several of the Mets were clearly using last year’s caps.
• Paul LoDuca has always worn his uniform number on his chest protector collar (with the Dodgers and Marlins, too). But his new protector has “LoDuca 16” on it (sorry, no photo yet), which I think makes him the first MLB catcher to have his name and his number displayed on the collar.
Okay, go enjoy your Opening Day games, your Seders, and whatever else you’ve got going on today. And remember: My team’s magic number is already lower than your team’s.
Uni Watch News Ticker: Someone in the MLB office finally woke up. ”¦ Speaking of cap pins, longtime Uni Watch comrade Clay Luraschi, who works for Topps, has provided a much bigger, better view of the 1985 card that shows Mark Davis wearing one of those Croix de Candlestick pins (in case you missed it last Thursday, full details on that phenomenon are here). Meanwhile, what’s with the black armband that Davis is wearing in that shot? I can’t find a record of the Giants having memorialized anyone in the ’83-’84 range. ”¦ My brain is so far out of college football mode that I can’t remember if we’ve covered South Carolina’s new Under Armour uniforms yet. Anyway, Mackay Smith reports that they’ll look like this, this, this, this, this, and this (most of which seems like a real downgrade from this). ”¦ Reprinted from Friday night’s comments: The Rangers will use a new crew of ballgirls this season — and they’ll be outfitted with True.com jerseys. Details here. ”¦ Also from Friday: Good Q&A here with the equipment manager of those other Rangers (the ones who play on ice). ”¦ Davey Baron notes that the Marlins sent Ryan Bear up to the plate in a totally blank double-flapped helmet on Friday. ”¦ “I thought you might appreciate some of the uni details of the Lawrence (KS) High School baseball team,” writes Ron Shaver. “Their mascot is the Chesty Lion, which you will see perched on the ends of the baseball bat, like on the Cardinals’ unis. The graphics on the hat are a little too modern for the rest of the uni, but I think the stirrups make up for that.” ”¦ Alarming news out of Cincinnati, where, according to this news item (brought to my attention by M. W. Strother), the Reds are switching from sewn-on numbers to heat-transfer. That anguished cry you hear in the background is Joe Hilseberg blowing a gasket. ”¦ You know this personal branding thing has gotten out of hand when Shaq is adding a ” ®” symbol to his signature. ”¦ Jeremy Brahm reports that the Chiba Lotte Marines are wearing a Hartford Insurance sponsorship patch.
Paul-
You got a nice shout out from “Fitzy” for putting up his video over at link For those of you who didn’t watch the video, it is great. You don’t need to be a Red Sox fan to appreciate it.
Paul,
I’m a Cardinal fan, so last night was even tougher on me… missed out on the opening day (vacation day) and had to watch Carp get shelled too.
Anyway, you said the Cards’ gold trim is only for the first series. Please tell me that the hat patch has the same life expectancy.
This may be sacrilage but I really liked the god trim on the Card’s uni’s. Like Paul said…very subtle.
Better watch the shots at ESPN, Paul, or Bill Simmons will be doing Uniwatch next week!
Opening day story: When the Milwaukee Brewers moved from Seattle in 1970, I stayed home – faked being sick – at age 13 to listen to the game on the radio.
They got beat 12-0. Never did that again!
the shaq signature is not what he really signs and it is trademarked because its for icy hot. i just saw one that he accutally signed and it has a “32” but no trademark sign
Hi
Good that baseballs back ,but hoped in vein that the Mets would wear blue caps with road grays on opening night :(
Oh well changing subjest here is a sneek peek for any rugby heads and all so a jersey thats secred to me,the new New Zealand All Blacks jersey from adidas here link . Thankfully nothing much has changed except for the silver fern has been incorperated in to the panel under the arms and down the sides ,I have no technical detail yet also here is the Alternate which will get wore once every 4 years in even link“>

My best friend was watching the game last night and told me about the gold on the Cards’ jerseys. I actually really liked it. It’s quiet enough not to look stupid but sets off the red nicely. That said, I was really glad the Mets beat them soundly. :-)
almost time for Manny to be Manny like Manny has never been Manny before….
WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY!!!! OH REDS, WHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY!
UGHHHHHHHHH!!!
“Authentic jerseys cost $325” with heat pressed numbers??? Are you kidding me??? When you reduce production time down to 20 minutes, shouldn’t the price go down?
This is a sad day for seamstress’ everywhere!
And on a side note, I think the gold outline on the Card’s numbers actually looked pretty sweet. I think it’s because the is a gold bat on the front of the jersey, so at least it is within their color palette.
Anyway, you said the Cards’ gold trim is only for the first series. Please tell me that the hat patch has the same life expectancy.
Fear not, fellow Card fan! The hat patch was only for Opening “Day” (and I think that’s also true for the nearly-invisible gold trim,) but the Cards will wear the “2006 World Champions” patch on the sleeve of their home unis all season.
I see it didn’t take long for the Mets to get some black…
Hi Les, to bad the All Blacks still have no white collar, but it looks OK. The change shirt is awful but they’ll never wear it so no problems there.
I watched the Oklahoma vs. Texas A & M softball game Saturday on ESPN2. I know that some softball players wear visors, but for the first time I noticed that some of the Oklahoma players’ visors had their uniform numbers on the side of their visors! Sorry, no pictures.
“(granted, I work out of my home, don’t have a boss, and usually take a nap in the afternoon anyway, but still…).”
Paul, you are a lucky man to have such self-employment opportunities, and a wise man for having had the guts to pull the trigger on them.
I wonder what percentage of the Uni Watch readers are office drones who start and end each day dreaming of the sweet day when death will free us of our existence.
I see it didn’t take long for the Mets to get some black…
The black cap with the blue brim is their regular road cap, so that’s not suprising.
It’s the black jersey and solid black cap that we’ll probably be seeing less of this year.
One thing I don’t like about the gold trim on the Cards’ jerseys is that the slight extra size of the letters in the players’ names mean that they’re link, making certain long-named players’ jerseys look even more clownish than usual. They least they could do is make use of those extra-thin letters that the Mets used to use for long-named guys like Strawberry and Manzanillo.
As for the Reds’ $325 jerseys, maybe that’s just the stadium-gift-shop gouging price? Surely they’ll be much cheaper elsewhere. You can get a perfectly authentic numbered jersey for half that much even at the not-famous-for-discounting MLB.com.
Interesting numeric trvia in the headline pic today.
You’ve got Ho-Jo talking to Green on first, who is wearing Johnson’s old number 20.

Good! I’ll sleep much better tonight. I can live with a sleeve patch.
While we’re talking Cardinal uni’s…. I ran across an old photo of McGwire, from about 1998. He was wearing a gray road jersey with the Sunday Cap. I barely remember this, but I think the Cards did where the Sunday Cap on the road the first year or so after they introduced it. Now they only wear it at home. Why? It actually looked really good with the road gray… especially with the red undershirts.
I wonder what the cheerleaders for the Chesty Lions look like…
And what are the girls teams called? Chesty Lady Lions? Chesty Lionesses?
anyone notice the new UnderArmour SoCarolina unis look a lot like the UA flagship school’s (Maryland) uniforms. Just a deeper red.
Paul, the Cardinals catcher also had his name and number on his chest protector. It said “Yadi4” for Yadier Molina. No pics though.
Last night I was discussing with my wife what we would do on Easter Sunday with her family. At Thanksgiving, we have football. Christmas, ditto. Oh wait I thought, there will be baseball. Her family are rabid Oriole fans.
Then I thought, I can’t believe baseball’s opening day is on the same day as the NCAA Basketball championship… is it any question what most sports fans will be watching?
My solution? Have opening day coincide with Easter Sunday. Every team plays in the afternoon on their local stations except a nationally broadcast game in the evening. Much of the country will be at home and baseball will get the entire spotlight as opposed to horning in on a weekend that belongs to College Basketball. That would solve your predicament, Paul– nothing fucked up about opening day anymore.
Is this the first year the Cards have ditched using nameplate too???
By EPSN, I guess you mean ESPN. Not sure the paycheck will be arriving until the type-o is corrected. :-)
In response to #22 regarding Opening Day on Easter…What would happen in years like next year, when Easter Sunday is March 23? Or last year when it was April 16? Easter moves around, so it would be tough to make Opening Day always on Easter.
Mojo, Easter can fall in a wide range of dates; sometimes it’s in late March and other times it’s in the middle of April. I don’t think you could schedule baseball’s Opening Day around it.

Your right Nico, But I think id only like the white coller if it was a full coller like the old Canterbury pre 99, I still wear that jersey as much as the Adidas one, pity you cant buy them anymore.
On the Mets caps I think if they have to wear a black cap on the road then wear the solid black with the road grays ,then we could have a look of the Brooklyn blue at home and the NY Giants black on the road. The NY on the black/blue cap is to hard to see.

A few interesting notes from my trip to the Mets Clubhouse Shop yesterday.
1. I like the new hats. I already performed surgery on mine, and still need to see if soaking does anything to it. Even without the soaking, a New Era hat takes on a far lower profile anyway, so I should be good.
2. The numbering and lettering on the new Batting Practice jerseys is Lextra, just like in the English Premiership. It irons on, but is fuzzy. One problem is that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to de-gunk those numbers, especially the black ones. I’m waiting to hear the frustrated baseball fans new to this material.
3. I saw link in the window. Could it see actual dugout use this year? Charlie Samuels has never liked the blue hats because they always clash with the black dugout jackets.
Very happy to see the win, Let’s go Mets!
If the Mets actually followed their own uni guidelines, which say that the home uniform is the white pinstripe uni with the blue cap, blue undershirt and blue socks, while the road uniform is the gray uni with black/blue cap, black undershirt and black socks, then everything would be OK (relatively speaking).
I remember when the Royals added black to their uni, that was how they did it. If the Mets followed that, and then used the blacks as their names imply, as alternates, then it wouldn’t be so bad.
Unfortunately, they tend to wear the black/blue caps with everything, relegating the blue caps to secondary status, and then go on binges where they wear the black unis for a week straight for no discernible reason. When the alternate becomes the norm, that sort of defeats the whole purpose of having an alternate uni in the first place.
Hat realted item from yesterday. I went to this thing the Brewers had where players were signing autographs and asked Geoff Jenkins how he liked the new hats. He had no problems with the new game day ones but he said he didn’t like the batting practice ones. I have to admit Jenkins had some good taste because those batting practice caps are terrible.

I liked the gold trim too, but even on my 42″ plasma HD, it was very subtle. I’m not sure I would have noticed had I not already got the heads up from Uni Watch.
I counted Jose Reyes, Pedro Feliciano, and Billy Wagner wearing gray underbills. Didn’t notice any Cardinals with the old style hats.
The Red Sox did the same thing as the Cardinals on Opening Day in 2005 after they won the World Series. The gold was much more pronounced on the Red Sox jerseys though. I only saw part of the game last night and didn’t even realize that the Cardinals wore the gold outlines until I read this today. With the Sox it was more obvious.
Found a link to the 2005 Red Sox Opening Day jerseys. Now who wore #18 back then???? I forget his name now ;-)
Take a look at Rodriguez in Monday’s opener and you will notice something different. He’s a leaner machine and is wearing his socks throw-back style, the only Yankee on the field other than first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz who is showing blue socks.

I sure hope so.
I remember last year during the playoffs, the Mets unveiled a new dugout jacket that was the reverse of the current one; instead of being black with blue accents down the sleeves, it was blue with black accents on the sleeves. The “Mets” across the front chest was in blue with a black drop-shadow, if I recall correctly.
It actually looked pretty sweet, and I remember the buzz being that the Mets were going to wear them at home with the blue caps. In fact, I never saw them wear it once, and I don’t really see it in any of the usual places anymore (The Mets Clubhouse, the MLB shop).

I think the Red Sox jerseys stood out more because the gold (or yellow) was next to the black outlining of the Red Sox jerseys. The Cardinals jerseys had the gold (or yellow) next to red, which made it harder to see.
I found a picture of the alternate dugout jacket. I like it a lot better than the current one.
It would help if I posted the link:

Much nicer than the current dugout jackets.
Hi, been a reader for a while but this is my first post from the UK- Mets look so much better in blue!
Is this is the Mets jacket I think you are on about:
link
(Hope the link works!)
Sorry, the link didn’t work but its on the starstruck site anyway, one of the Mets featured items.
Looking at that picture of Shawn Green with HoJo (ah, the good ol’ days), brings a question to mind: Are the Mets the only team that use a batting helmet that doesn’t have a corresponding cap? The spring-training/ batting practice cap matches it, but they don’t use those in games. They have the all-black helmets for the all-black caps, the blue helmets for the blue caps, but this helmet doesn’t match the black/blue caps.
I know Joe Mauer likes to use the old-school Twins helmet with the white front panel on it, but that’s an individualized choice; the rest of the team wears the normal helmets when they bat. I wonder why the Mets decided to go with this design and color-scheme…..?
Anyone know why Woman’s Lacrosse does not link

I put the link up on post #44. I’m assuming that was the jacket you tried to link to.
Mr Met,
Yes it was, thanks. Hopefully it’ll be used for the vast majority of home games this year.
Did anyone catch the amazing socks that the UNC women wore last night? Here’s a picture of Ivory Latta from earlier in the year – the whole team was wearing them against Tennessee.
Women’s lacrosse doesn’t wear masks because they aren’t allowed to hit each other like in Men’s. I think they get cards like soccer for things like sneezing in the general direction and within ten feet of an opposing player.

Yes.

For the record, backup backstop Mike Redmond also wears the old-school helmet when catching. Not sure if the new third-stringer, Chris Heintz, will also be wearing it.
Paul, have you commented on the floor design for the women’s final four yet? (I know barely anybody watches the women’s final four, so you might not have) It’s a really cool design that includes a guitar logo that spans diagonally across the court. I’m searching for pics now.
The 2007 logo includes a guitar serving as the “i” and “o” in Final and Four, and the court at Quicken Loans Arena has a superimposed guitar stretching nearly the length of the floor. Here’s the logo, but I can’t seem to find a picture of the entire court.

Yes! I meant to include something about that in today’s ticker. Look link, link, and link.
From yesterday:
AmBens, you are correct about hitters wanting a smaller strike zone. I had a brain freeze when I replied, so yes, we want it to be known that players with high socks will get better strike zones.
Thresher, looks like I was wrong about the origin of the Indians’ nickname. Sorry about that.
I actually graduated from Lawrence High. Imagine my surpise when I saw them mentioned today in the news ticker. The uniforms are great and the hats are miserable.
The girls teams go by either the “Lady Lions” or just the “Chesty Lions” as well.

Looked good. I was disappointed they don’t have the argyle down the sides like the men do. Too bad — I think that looks great and is unique. Stylish but subtle.
I walked into Chick’s Sporting Goods(by far the best sports store I have ever been into) the other day to check out the new 5950’s. I wanted to get a new blue Mets cap, unfortunitely they only had the 2 black ones. But, the new ones are softer and feel like they’re made better. Plus the sizing seems more consitent. It just felt better on my my head.
I’m leaving this second to go to the REAL opening day, right here in Cincinnati!!!! What a day! Great weather…take the day off, parade, ballgame, and prodigious amounts of beer!!! Then follow that by watching tOSU game tonight. This town doesn’t rock on many days, but on this one it does!!! Go Reds!

A-Rod is wearing his socks high today.
I posted this on Saturday and went and looked back to see if anyone responded (didn’t see any, so I am reposting)
Does anyone have the website that showed the step by step way to doctor your 5950 (taking the white stitching out, wetting it, etc.)?
From Paul’s comment on Gabe Kapler in his ESPN column:
On Sept. 27, 1999, the Tigers played their last game in Tiger Stadium, with players in the starting lineup wearing the uniform numbers of great Tigers of the past. But Kapler’s jersey was blank (as you can sort of see here). What, did they get him a bargain knockoff on closeout or something? No. The real story is that Kapler was wearing Ty Cobb’s number — which, since Cobb played in the era before uni numbers existed, was no number at all. The larger irony: Cobb was a notorious anti-Semite.
I can’t help but wonder: Why on earth did the Tigers not give Kapler Hank Greenberg’s number?
Nationals left fielder Ryan Church is going with the sunglasses on the bill of his cap despite the sun being out in full force in D.C.

Because they were doing it by position — Greenberg’s number was worn by whoever was playing first base for Detroit that day.

I’d guess the Reds jersey you looked at was the Coolbase version. They are much more expensive than than the normal version.

BTW, I tried one of the new caps this weekend. I kind of like the black underbrim, but they still have the Herman Munster-inspired crown shape that this surgery is intended to remove. It would seem that wetting them will have no effect on the polyester caps (New Era claims the ability to hold its shape as one of the new cap’s benefits), so I guess most will be wearing them Tom Glavine style. I’ll hold off on getting one until New Era offers a lower crown version.
those reds unis looks sharp. they dont seem as busy as they did in the unveiling this winter.

you must be the only guy on this blog who actually participates in athletics, right? i am a baseball fan, and have been my whole life, but i would have to say that the final round of the single most prestigious golf event held on american soil would trump day 1 of a 162 game season…

I tried them this weekend too. The sizing is more consistent as I am apparently a 7-9/16. Usually I can go with the 7-5/8 and wait for it to shrink. gonna have to find one of the old ones. interesting note, I went into a hat world (which apparently is the same as lids) and asked for an old one and they said they shipped them all back. but on their website there is no mention of the old ones. hmmm…
watching opening day here from home with the new son and George Grande and Chris Welsh just commented on the lack of black in the Reds new uniforms. I have to agree, they look darn near pristine. my wife even commented on how nice they look, she is starting to get it. also just noticed on Adam Dunn’s homer that he is wearing the vented helmet. it appears that it is team wide, Brandon Phillips is wearing one, as is Ken Griffey Jr.
those reds unis looks sharp. they dont seem as busy as they did in the unveiling this winter.
I love them even more now. Also, it wouldn’t bother me if they never wore those black brimmed hats ever again. The all-red hat/helmet is so much better.
Here’s what the Mets looked like on link didn’t I read somewhere that they were gonna have less black in 2007? By the looks of link it ain’t happening yet..and oh, crazy shit with Green’s “Y”.
Pete Rose has been spotted in Cincinnati, wearing a fashion cap. It was all-white with a white Reds C oriented diagonally on the left front panel of the cap.
That in and of itself should be enough to keep him out of the Hall.

If so, maybe that’s the reason Adam Dunn rocked him for a two run homer in the first.
>My solution? Have opening day coincide with Easter Sunday.
Except Easter moves around. Could be as early as March 22 or as late as April 25.
>doesnt final round coverage of the masters traditionally coincide with easter sunday?
No. The last day of the Masters is always 2nd Sunday in April.
>Saturday marks perhaps the greatest saturday in all of golf, maybe in all of individual sports…MOVING DAY!!!
The Masters doesn’t begin until some hack on TV says, “The Masters doesn’t begin until the back nine on Sunday.”
Since we’re talking about sporting events on Easter, and this was alluded to in today’s column proper, I just don’t get not playing in sporting events because of a religious calendar, either on a team basis (see BYU almost ruining every college pool a couple years back) or individually (Koufax).
It *might* be admirable on a case-by-case basis, but if too many people do it, then all hell breaks loose. It’s bad enough that Chariots of Fire got made, but imagine Rob Deer not playing on Easter in 1987 — everyone in Milwaukee is denied a burger from George Webb!

You’re serious? Someone isn’t going to watch basball to watch…Golf??!!
Since I tend to take part in recreational activities and not watch them ( I watched paint dry once…um… that was a lot of fun). What is moving day?
depending on the event, i think there are a lot of people who rather watch golf than baseball.
you must be the only guy on this blog who actually participates in athletics, right? i am a baseball fan, and have been my whole life, but i would have to say that the final round of the single most prestigious golf event held on american soil would trump day 1 of a 162 game season…
I’m sure there are a few people who might check out the leaderboard, but wouldn’t rather watch their MLB team on opening day (or any day for that matter). I play golf, but I’ve never considered it a sport (kind of like bowling). So I guess I’m biased. (I can rationally explain why I don’t think that golf or bowling are sports at some other time).

Saturdays in golf tourneys are called moving day because the field tries to “move up the board” to be in better position on Sunday.
This always bothered me because it’s usually beneficial to shoot low scores every day, not just Saturday.

A little more on that – Of course it’s beneficial to always shoot low scores but once you’ve made the cut it makes more sense to be aggressive and take some chances that would be foolish if you are hovering near the cut on Friday. So it’s kind of ‘safely make the cut, then downshift and hit the gas on Saturday’. Re-reading this it makes no sense, but in my mind – crystal clear!

Did several Tigers players really go numberless in that last Tuger Stadium game? That’s bizarre. Did the PA announcers just skip over the “number…” part, or did they say, “now batting, wearing a blank jersey…”?
I had never heard of that game before.
And did the other players have only numbers, without names above them? I ask because I once saw a silly-looking Tigers throwback jersey which was meant to be Cobb’s, but they could only show this by writing “COBB” across the shoulders, with no number below it!

Having seen a few of the Yankees’ gamers with armbands, they used a regular fabric (either cotton or jersey poly) that didn’t affect the sleeve. Watching the Twins on TV it seems that the twill has serious thickness (you can see the profile of it against the backdrop and that sleeve seems to stay round compared to the other). By “less black”, they mean that the black jerseys are going to be used less this year than in the past. Which probably means that the “snow whites” and the pinstripes will still be used with the black/blue caps. That is the look they need to move away from.

Off topic: did anyone else shed a tear when they showed the UNC mascot during “One Shining Moment”?
Anyway, I’m off to revel in the glory of Gator sports. It’s great to be a Florida Gator.
scratch that, they wore them against Kansas in Vegas. So they’ve lost one game in them.

golf is a great sport to watch on tv and at tournaments. at what other event does your ticket allow you constantly move from place to place around the venue… to choose who you want to see, when and where…
Wimbledon allows this. And they also allow women to join the All-England Lawn Tennis Association.
Ha! Wery nice point, Sage Confucius.
Chad G., one of my posts was eaten earlier today, too.
Everybody: Damn, y’all! Don’t you know that I am the official Twins’ news poster? Man, a person has to post as soon as something happens around here.
Just kidding. I don’t like the black armband–throws off the balance of the unis–but it was a nice gesture on so short a notice. I wonder what the patch will look like? Paul? Any idea?
Gotta beat the MN emigrants to it when the Twinks are on national TV, Minna :)
I think the armband would work if it were thinner and a more regular material. That said, a patch would make a lot more sense.

TD, good point about the thinner armbands. Still, not too shabby for a rush job. I am sure the patch will look fine.
Were they on national TV? Hot damn! Johan looking in midseason form, Morneau with his first blast (Toriiiii, too!), Nathan bringing the heat. Ahhh, life is good on Opening Day (even if it’s going to snow again tomorrow. That’s ok; I like snow).
ted, theres no checking in girls lacrosse, only stick checking and even then its extremely limited, this limits the need for A) full facemask, B) pads. Also, if you see a girls lax goalie, they wear more padding than anyone, similar ot an indoor lax goalie…
Thanks, I would still think that you could get whacked with an inadvertent stick to the face.
not really, in girls lacrosse, an imaginary 1 foot bubble exists around every players head. any movement of a players stick towards that bubble draws a foul.
Plus, those are relatively new, they only mandated them 3-4 years ago, before that no one wore them.
did anyone catch the D-Bags CF crash into the wall and destroy his sunglasses AND lose his glove over the fence? Great shot of it on SportsCenter, Paul.

Yes.

When I was watching the Rockies’ opener today it looked like they may have been wearing some purple/black combo, but I have no clear photographic evidence that shows it.
The Cubs have link the Blue Jerseys this year and will only wear pinstripes at home and grey on the road.
Chad G, the Mets have often given numbers in the 50s to coaches for some reason — Mookie had 51 for a while, and Charlie Hough left his old 46 behind for (I think) 54. Check out Mets By The Numbers (mbtn.net) and you’ll see many coaches taking numbers 51-55.
I kind of like it because it keeps the guys out on the field under 50, but the 52 really does look unnerving on Ho-Jo. At least they’re not as short on numbers as they are in Japan, where coaches wear 70-89!
not sure who this pitcher is or if it has been mentioned but look how far off the rubber to the 1st base side he is!!!: link
