Personally, I was leaning towards the Colts, but after seeing Peyton Manning get knocked down by an eighth-grade girl in that tango video yesterday, I think the Bears will do OK.

Those BC uni’s look pretty nice…thats a better looking gold then I’m used to..maybe the shine on them is toned down a bit?

The BC gold is still Vegas gold — a seriously lame, uninspired color. Part of the current swing away from bold colors and toward fashion-rack tints. Sad.

Lose Remerswaal’s right — it should be “Alternative.” It should also, in this case, not be Vegas gold…

I found the new batting practice hats at the mall last night. Besides the obvious changes to the design, the hat is “boxier.” The front is far more structured than the last version and the logos are bigger. The stretch panel on the side is much thinner than the rest of the hat and when paired with the piping gives a somewhat prominent “mushroom” effect to the side of your head.

That’s not 100% right. I was watching a little of the coverage yesterday on ESPN. they had Ditka and I think Jaws, I forget which of the guys it was, maybe mort. But any way, the white guy, not ditka, said he had a friend get him a copy of the hat from the winning team’s lockerroom, and he put on one of the colt’s hats. then Ditka put one on too, a bears one. so they have been seen on american soil. oh, we have seen the stuff on here too, linked out to websites so we all know what each one will look like. and we know abou the passing it on to africa, like the joke abouve about the bills. damn urban myths

I am pissed the Brewers got rid of the Wisconsin State backdrop for their BP hats. I think the State outline with the “M” in the middle is so classy. The Astros have their state in the BP hats… why can’t the Crew? Oh well…

The Super Bowl championship apparel for both teams definitely sees the light of day, at least before hand. There is a video on CNN.com of an Orangutan “predicting” the winner by selecting a T-Shirt (they appear to be the official championship ones).

And of course stuff leaks out into the western world. I just regret not buying a 1991 Atlanta Braves World Series Champs pennant when I had the chance….

I personally like this color combination _ see Cleveland Cavs. The “lame” looks here to me is due to the “no-hole” dull mesh every brand uses now. Dull fabric with shiny trimming and lettering usually have a good effect on most colors, but with this particular gold they should have gone with the “mettalic” fabric NBA teams (DEN, HOU, even WAS vegas alternate) wear now. While being as comfortable, it still has the shiny look of the dazzle fabric. The Cavs uniorm is made of classic maroon mesh with vegas dazzle, wich makes the gold look brighter so it works great. Even if BC(maroon) is one of my favorite unis, it’s true that the dull fabric makes it look rather beige than gold.

I was just looking at the BP caps on link and noticed that the Angels cap doesn’t actually have the mushroom thing on the side. No other one is lacking that. Even the other ones that don’t use a contrasting color (Boston) still have the mushroom.

It’s the wring pick. Go to Amazon.com and search “Angels 2007 Batting Practice”, it has the flap.

When I worked for MLB Productions in 1986, I got my hands on a Red Sox World Champions hat. I wore it for at least a year. One day I was crossing 57th and 5th and a gust of wind took the hat and flung it toward Madison Ave. I tried to go after it, but it was gone. Sad moment.

Throughout the 90’s, I did those championship commercials for Sports Illustrated. We used to make up hats, shirts and sweatshirts, for both sides. I had a bunch of garments from “championship” teams that lost the game. Used to wear them all the time just to see if anyone would notice. Most of the time no one did.

Point is, despite what the Times article said, believe me there are plenty of people walking around with that stuff…right here in the States.
In fact, I just might break out my Titans Super Bowl XXXIV championship sweatshirt today.

Those gold alts look so bright, it might be difficult to distinguish between them and white unis on a bad TV or in bad light. Was the other team in color?

Dump the advertising and those would look pretty spiffy. I like the weird Puerto Rico font and Mexico’s green always looks good. But I’d never buy anything from those companies with their ads.

I must say that Tony Dungy’s polo shirt is ugly as hell, and I can only imagine that Lovie’s will be just as ugly. Dungy’s shirt has a similar template to the Reebok jackets, including the crazy, curved, color-contrasting (alliteration much?) back panel. Also, the teal on the SBXLI patch clashes badly with the Colts’ royal blue.

I bet our beloved blogger Paul Lukas isn’t too thrilled with all of the black in the Mets BP cap. The “G” on the Giants cap is also nearly impossible to read! Black G with an orange outline on a black hat? Ridiculous.

Oh, and despite the Bills losing four straight Super Bowls, I’m still proud to wear Bills gear wherever I go.

Actually, from what I’ve seen the only “fake champion” gear that get’s sent to child soldiers tends to be the reebok stuff that is league sponsered. I was at the Sugar Bowl a couple of years ago, and the guys outside that had shirts made up by the time the game was over said that all shirts showing the wrong team winning went to charity, (but they were still available then for $5.00). Because these items are a novalty at best they can only really be sold at really low prices (like $5.00), but if it goes to charity they can get almost as much as they charge fans for them (around 20 bucks).

I do believe the Brewers set the record for 2nd largest attendence for the year last year… so that is nothing to be shameful about. I’ll give it to the Cubs, they do travel well as fans, but it isn’t impressive when there are a lot at Miller Park. It’s an hour drive, and since they can’t get seats at Wrigley, it’s a close second. I love being a Brewers fan. The fan base is growing every year, and in a few years the Crew should be contending for a title. (in my opinion)

You can occasionally see the “Wrong” championship here in the US. Many, many years ago, I got a Lakers 1991 NBA Champs shirt. Unfortunately, the shirt has long since gone.

The NFL referees should have a talk with the people that created the new NHL jerseys so that they could get something that repels water as opposed to what they have tonight (nipple-huggers).

I don’t care how classic the uni Rex Grossman is wearing. He’s a clown. Trerrible.

Loved the unis, loved the rain; old-school NFL football. Speaking of which, something occurred to me during the game:

This was only the second Super Bowl played between teams which both existed prior to 1960. The only other one was Steelers vs. Rams in Super Bowl XIV.

The only way this can happen is if the Colts, Steelers or Browns represent the AFC (all three joined the AFC from the NFL after the merger). The Browns have never been to the Super Bowl*; the Steelers played the Cowboys (1960), Vikings (1961) and Seahawks (1976) in addition to the Rams; the Colts previously played the Jets (1960) and Cowboys (1960).

* – The original Browns franchise, as the Baltimore Ravens, played the Giants in SB XXXV, but as NFL history and statistical records treat the Ravens as an expansion team, with the 1999+ Browns as a continuation of the original Browns, plus the fact that the Browns had been reinstated by then, that game doesn’t count.

When I bought my Cardinals WS Champs shirt the Monday after they won, one of the stores I was in had “Tigers WS Champs” shirts on clearance for like $2. New store manager forgot to cancel the order. Shouldn’t that be somewhere near the top of the check list?? Luckily they only ordered 20 shirts of each team to see how well they would sell in this area.

BTW, this is my third attempt at writing this. I’m really not liking the security code.

Did anyone else notice this? Hint: Look at the right leg. It was normal at the beginning of the game, odd in the middle, than normal at the end (sometime around the second quarter it changed the first time. Go figure.

The Saints for years had great uniforms using traditionl, darker Old Gold. Then around the time Lou Holtz went to Notre Dame, it seems that almost every Old Gold team in pros and college switched to Vegas Gold – the color of weakened cat p.ss !

The color does not contrast well with White and is even more horrible for Dome teams like the Saints – and the weakeness and patheticness of that crummy, trendy, sellout, lameass color is what has probably given the Saints the even more pitiful excuse for the even more pathetic “Black on Black” and White on Black” leotard bottom uni monstrosities that we have been treated to in recent years.

You can look at older photos of Black and Old Gold teams, with Army keeping Old Gold as recently as two years ago, and see much better unis then you see today. The UNI GODS probably weep at this p.ss poor excuse for sensible uni attire !!! (By the way, Army taking on Vegas Gold as a uni team color is a true sign that the Apocalypse currently upon us).

Man Law Number 1. – Burn all “Vegas Gold” uniforms and replace the color with Old Gold.

As for Black leotards uni bottoms, donate them to the Seventh Grade JV teams where they belong – their very existence are too lame to even merit a Man Law.

Are the SB logos on the helmets a new thing? Don’t recall seeing that before.

With the Colts’ victory, the record now stands at 11-8 for quarterbacks with double digit numbers against quarterbacks with single digit numbers. (For full disclosure, there have been three Super Bowls between starting quarterbacks who both wore single digits, and 19 Super Bowls between starting quarterbacks who both wore double digits.)

Weren’t starting QBs wearing #8 undefeated in the Super Bowl once (Aikman, Young, Dilfer) now they’ve lost the last two.
