A Big Uni Day for College Football

Several college football developments yesterday, beginning with this BFBS alternate uni that Nebraska will be wearing for its game against UCLA on Sept. 14. As you can see, the jersey has the same stretch marks that we saw yesterday in the new UCLA home jersey, so that’s what Adidas’s latest generation of jerseys will look like. Here’s a closer look at the fabric — ugh.

Just to clarify: The UCLA uni I linked to in the last graf is not what UCLA will be wearing for the Sept. 14 game against Nebraska. At first I thought UCLA would have a “special” alternate uni for that game, to go along with Nebraska’s BFBS alt, but Adidas has told me that UCLA will just be wearing their standard white road jerseys for that game.

Speaking of UCLA, you may recall that Bruins coach Jim Mora had a few things to say about the team’s uniforms back in April, when he tweeted the following:

More on the UCLA Stripe; it is part of the fabric of the jersey, not an insert, but it takes a 2nd layer to include it. Not functional or comfortable to have 2nd layer under armpit. Adidas working on technology to include a rubberized paint that will allow us to extend UCLA Stripe. We all know how important it is to our fans and we promise to keep pushing. Adidas has been great.

As I said at the time, I give Mora credit for addressing uniform details like this. Unfortunately, it looks like Adidas hasn’t yet perfected the “rubberized paint” Mora referred to, because the striping is still woefully truncated.

Meanwhile, an Oregon recruit named Brady Bergan tweeted a photo of what he claims to be a pair of new apple-green chrome helmets for the Ducks:

At first I wasn’t sure if these were legit or just for display. But then reader Brett Nieves pointed out to me that the helmets are shown at the 1:30 mark of this Oregon hype video, which was posted a few days ago:

So that leads me to believe that these helmets will indeed be part of the mix for the Ducks this season.

Meanwhile, there’s also a small change for Arkansas, whose uni numbers have changed from a white-gray fade to solid white — an obvious improvement. Looks like they may also have changed the shoulder graphics, but I can’t be sure. Additional photos here.

’Skins Watch: Here’s the latest regarding the ’Skins name and related issues:

• A Washington Post poll has found that a large majority of DC-area sports fans are in favor of the ’Skins keeping their name.

• A Chicago writer says the Blackhawks, despite their Stanley Cup win, are tainted by racism.

ESPN reminder: In case you missed it yesterday, my latest ESPN column features the results of the Hornets redesign contest.

OMFG, RIP — for now: Got some sad news this week, as budget cuts have forced The New Republic to stop publishing my “One-Man Focus Group” column. If you’re one of the many people who’ve had kind things to say about OMFG over the past six months, thank you — I’ve appreciated the support and enthusiasm.

I’m hoping this is just a speed bump for OMFG, not a dead end. I’ve already made some inquiries about finding a new home for the column. If you’re an editor and are looking for a ready-made project to plug into your media venue, give a shout this-a-way. Thanks.

Uni Watch News Ticker: Oooh, check this out: a Cleveland Browns basketball jersey (from Bruce Menard). … Drew Roberts has launched a new site called Uniform Critics, which tracks new uni releases and invites readers to rate them. I wish him good luck with this project. … Here’s another view of Darnell Dockett’s new facemask. He won’t be able to wear that rainbow/mirror visor in a game, though (from Brady Phelps). … I love Bethanie Mattek-Sands’s socks from Wimbledon yesterday, although most people were more interested in her hair (thanks, Brinke). … Buried within these NCAA basketball rules changes is the following: “Allow other words or names besides a player or institutional name/mascot on the back of the game jersey. No commercial advertising will be allowed. Rationale: To allow institutions more latitude to celebrate or memorialize persons, events or other worthy causes” (good spot by Ryan Burns). … Good story on the company that helped engineer the new MLB batting helmets (from Mark Medinger). … A color-on-color game was the source of an NBA controversy in 1970. It’s an interesting story, but it doesn’t mention why the Hawks were wearing color at home (good find by Todd Radom). … The guy on the right in this photo is Cornell football coach Bob Blackman. See the unusual striping on the Cornell helmets in the background? That’s a variation on the striping style Blackman originally used when he coached at Dartmouth. He also used the off-center striping when he coached at Illinois (I learned all this from Tris Wykes). … Here’s a quiz on athletes’ personal logos. “Many are surprisingly well designed,” says Jim Wagner. … “A friend and I have, for over a dozen years now, painstakingly painted the uniforms of every player on our bubble hockey teams,” says Mike Monaghan. “Not sure why I’ve never thought to send you the pictures until now. We have a complete set of six players for every single team — home and away, and throwback jerseys mixed in. There are about 65 total teams and growing.” You can see the results of this excellent project by looking here. … Mariners infielder Nick Franklin is wearing the same double-flapped helmet he wore in the minors (from Patrick Fleming). ”¦ Check out the crazy Union Jack kit worn by Chesterfield Town in 1892 (from Trevor Williams). … Just noticed that Alejandro De Aza has some seriously loose kerning on his NOB. ”¦ Chuck Spina was too late to get in on my Hornets redesign contest, but he sent along a pretty cool concept for their court design. I like! ”¦ Aside from sporting events, I watch network television approximately never. Part of it is that I’m too busy; part of it is that I already spend most of my days at home staring at a screen, so I’m not really looking to do more of that; and part of it is that I get the general impression that most network TV isn’t very good. But I read several very positive things about that Under the Dome mini-series that debuted on CBS the other night, so I checked out the first episode (and apparently I wasn’t the only one). Holy moly, was it awful. Seriously, is this what now passes for “good” network TV? Miserable acting + cringe-inducing dialogue + one formulaic cliché after another = unwatchable. And people, if a live cow gets sliced in half, it’s gonna bleed. Like, A LOT. Jeez.

Oregon helmet on the left they wore last year. Oregon helmet on the right they wore in the spring game. Nothing really new.

That’s what I had been saying literally all day yesterday. Whatever exposure they had on the video/picture makes the yellows pop more than usual. I’d be very surprised if they are actually new.

Under The Dome was one of the best new Stephen King books that I have read. I was saddened to hear they were going to make a show out of it as I figured they would ruin it. Sounds like they lived up to expectations.

With a couple of exceptions, King’s work rarely translates well to TV or movies. As for the blood, or lack thereof, from the cow, this was network TV. If it’d been on HBO, it probably would’ve been a whole different story.

A lot of my favorite movies of all time have been based on Stephen King’s work: Shawshank Redemption, Shining, Thinner and The Langoliers.

My thoughts are that most people complain about King’s adaptation because of the atrocious Tommyknockers and that the endings get changed. The changed endings throw me off but it doesn’t usually ruin the movie for me. And sometimes the endings are shocking for being more King-like (i.e. The Mist).

As for Under the Dome, I haven’t read the book yet since I usually just buy cheap used books but I thought the TV pilot was a fun watch for the mystery and intrigue. They obviously skimped on the acting but I’m watching for the story. Dean Norris must be going crazy as he’s used to the quality acting of the Breaking Bad cast.

For the people who mentioned The Simpsons Movie, Simpsons came out first but King said he was already working on the novel. Whether he’s telling the truth or not, at least it’s a completely different story.

Had no idea that was a Stephen King story. I was wondering why there was a show about a dome when the Simpsons did it in the movie, I guess they got their idea from King

“Bio-Dome” established the standard by which all subsequent films set in an encapsulated environment are to be judged.

I agree as Nebraska I always felt was one of those schools that had a Alabama/Penn State feel to their uniforms in that tradition supersedes the uni trend of the day. The other thing that is strange is that isn’t wearing a “black shirt” a big deal for the Nebraska defense? (Sorry I’m from PA so I don’t want to pretend I know the whole tradition).

The Blackshirts tradition began in the ’60s. Short version: The coach sent an assistant to a sporting goods store to get different colored practice jerseys. Randomly, the defense was given black jerseys. The defense performed well, some media type noticed that they wore black jerseys in practice and began calling them the Blackshirts. Blackshirts are worn only by the starters during practice and must be earned.

It is a great tradition and the Blackshirts logo is one of the best in sports. The idea of my beloved alma mater wearing black on the field makes me sick, however. It is not a school color and we all know of the inherent evils of BFBS.

Those Nebraska jerseys are hideous. With the stenciled numbers they resemble old-time practice jerseys. Pretty sad for this great school. The ‘Huskers surely won’t get a “Git ‘er done!” from #1 fan Larry the Cable Guy for these abortions.

Nebraska could have done so much better than that, I understand blackshirts but still.

    Not a good look.

Agree…however now that Dr. Tom is out, I’m afraid the new “swag” is going to continue to be the thing in Lincoln

There was other programming Monday night that would have been of more interest to most Uni Watchers. It even featured an ending that no scripted entertainment could match.

They tried making the shoulder stripes cream a few years ago. But after a couple of washings they looked more like yellow/beige and they went back to white the following year.

I have to say that I am really becoming a fan of Oregon and its uni ways. I used to cringe when they would come out with a new uni element/design/gimmick/what-have-you and think they were just a doll that Nike played dress-up with (which you can still make the case). But as time goes on and more and more schools are coming out with Hiroshima level disastrous unis, it feels they are just trying to catch up to Oregon. I give Oregon more of a pass because these types of unis are their thing, it just feels like they “own” that type of uni more, and every so often they come out with something not so bad. For the record, i kinda like those helmets. If I had team I would never allow a helmet like that, but in the Oregon uni-verse I think it’s one of their more appealing ones. It’s all relative I guess.

Funny I mentioned above about Nebraska’s tradition, but Oregon rolling out a new style or uniform really has become their “tradition”, so much as to when other schools start doing it (like a Boise State) people seem to refer to them as “Pulling an Oregon”.

    Hey Paul,
    Re: Under The Dome

Thank you for saving an hour of my life.

    Sincerely,
The part of America that missed it the first time.

Mike Monaghan’s friend’s bubble hockey project is almost beyond words in its awesomeness! What a treat to see that photo gallery.

And Paul, you have only yourself to blame for Under the Dome. One of the most important rules of pop culture is to ask of any King adaptation, “Is the source material shorter than 50,000 words, or is it named Carrie or the Shining?” If yes, then it’s probably worth watching. If no, then it’s almost certainly not. Thought everyone knew that.

I agree that the bubble hockey project is awesome. I can’t imagine how many man-hours went into painting all of them.
Anyone know if the wild-haired California Golden Seal player is supposed to be modeled after a real player?

It seems like every uniform gets at least a 4 out of 5 stars ranking.

The Nebraska Black Catastrophe is at 4.5 stars, with loads of admiring comments.

    It boggles the mind.

St Louis Post-Dispatch sports reporter brings up the question of “Does religion need to be that prominent in a baseball game?”: link

Not an anti-religion article. There is a cross etched into the pitcher’s mound along with what the Cardinals say is a “6” for Musial.

Personally, I don’t think that there should be anything on the back of the mound, and I believe there was even a UW story about how out of hand the added iconography could get.

I’m a Christian. I’ve spent more than twenty-five years serving in ecclesiastical positions in my Church, including six years as the head of a congregation. And these pointless displays of piety make me depressed. Depressed, and a little angry.

Christ said His followers should do their good works in secret, “that the Father may reward thee openly.” The Apostle James describes pure religion as visiting the fatherless and widows “in their affliction,” and avoiding worldliness.

I don’t know of the Scripture that says that being a good Christian means scratching crosses into every possible surface, praying in front of legions of screaming fans in cavernous, publicly financed stadiums, and making people who don’t perfectly mirror your beliefs feel uncomfortable. (I especially liked how many of the people defending the mound cross in the Post-Dispatch comments made really uncharitable comments about the author.)

Well-stated, Cort. You have articulated much of the same reasoning that restrains me from putting a Christian fish decal on the back of my car. (That, and, well… the space is already occupied by chrome decals representing my college alma maters.)

Put simply, as someone who strives to follow Christ, I would rather spend my energy finding ways to extend God’s love and compassion to others instead of building buttresses around my sub-culture that ultimately prevent me from extending that love.

But how will anyone know you love Christ if you don’t have huge public displays of your devotion?

    How will He know?

Where is the love for how good UCLA baseball looked in winning the College World Series this week? Instead we’re talking about another black college football uniform in summertime.

Amazingly, that got zero coverage in these parts, and I’m assuming, in yours. Those pinstriped whites are by far their best look.

UCLA’s baseball uniforms haven’t been ignored around here.

There was, of course, Bryan Redemske’s great link. Reader “Eduardo” also made some observations about UCLA’s uniforms in the comments section on link.

The consensus: Nice looking uniforms that would be vastly improved if they got rid of those bizzare armpit vents.

As for why there hasn’t been nearly as much comment about UCLA’s baseball uniforms as compared to Nebraska’s new football uniforms, I’d hazard a guess that it has something to do with the comparitive popularity of the respective sports.

“No commercial advertising will be allowed. Rationale: To allow institutions more latitude to celebrate or memorialize persons, events or other worthy causes”

Rationale: ALL HASHTAGS ALL THE TIME, is probably closer to the truth, ugh.

It’s a little disappointing that the article on the Rockets-Hawks game only referred to “dark” uniforms, and didn’t actually specify the color.

The San Diego Rockets’ road unis were green with yellow trim; the Atlanta Hawks at the time had their funky blue-and-green set, which meant they either wore their blue road uniforms, or their green alternates.

Well, the green unis were worn both at home and on the road, so I’m guessing it’s those. Trying to find a photo for confirmation, but had no luck so far.

On a side note, those were the first alternate uniforms in the NBA. After the Hawks changed unis in ’72, no other team used alternates until the ’84 Clippers…

    1) I have wanted to see a hornets court like that FOREVER

    2) There is a reason network are dying. Their programs are terrible. Community on NBC was great, but the network has been doing their best to kill it.

    3) Yesterday’s supreme court ruling got me thinking. Part of what their logic was essentially that parts of the law they struck down would be considered unconstitutional if it were passed today. So, that made me think, if the Washington football team were an expansion team and chose the name redskins, would that be allowed today?

    No, of course not.

There’s a youth soccer league somewhere near my office — I don’t know where, but I see the kids in their uniforms at stores and restaurants — that outfits their players in replica shirts from major professional leagues. Yesterday, I saw some kids dressed in that sickly green Chelsea change shirt from a couple of years ago.

The thing is, these replica shirts all feature the sponsor logos, just like the pros wear. I think the kids would feel the shirts were inauthentic if those ads weren’t there: they want to look like their heroes. So somewhere in southeast Houston, there’s a crowd of adorable eight year olds, acting as roving billboards for Samsung.

I’m old. Shirt ads are sickening to me. Lots of you are young. Is advertising something you just don’t notice, or not care about, or are the sponsor logos an integral part of the design for you?

    – A Chicago writer says the Blackhawks, despite their Stanley Cup win, are tainted by racism.

The scribe is certainly entitled to his opinion. But I detect a regrettable trend to paint all Indian-themed teams with a broad brush. On a scale of stewardship and curatorial grace, I rate the NFL Redskins about a 1 and the Blackhawks much closer to a 10. Sports is always going to catch crap because most of its audience is dumb young white guys, but I think I know quality when I see it. A team I’m not so keen to give a pass is Florida State, who seem to use their blessing by the Seminole nation to be crass and cartoonish. Perhaps the Seminole tribal elders are an easy touch. Thoughts?

I had a thought this morning about what an equivalent to Blackhawks might be. We’ve often talked about “Redskins” being the equivalent of “Sambos” or “N-word” i.e. a negative racial stereotype.

If the Blackhawks represents a particular figure in this case a man who fought against the government for his people would the equivalent be the “Washington Nat Turners”?

I find Sarah Dropek’s article to be, in the words of Douglas Adams, A load of fetid dingo’s kidneys. We’re not talking racist names (Redskins) or racist images (Chief Wahoo). Commenter Sean Cooper said it best:

“The objectification, commodification, and logo-ization of a group of people (a very real, live, and living people) is cause enough for change.”

By this argument, teams like the Padres, Pirates, Yankees, Miners, and whole host of other teams should change their names.

Well objectification has served to justify what is a horrible history of murder and discrimination. By turning a people into characters it de-humanizes them and can in turn justify bad actions.

I find the Seminoles to be a great counterpoint to the idea that the other native teams are somehow “perpetuating racist stereotypes”. You could literally swap the Redskins & Seminoles logos and it wouldn’t change either team’s perceived image. If anything, it might actually make Washington look worse. It’s really hard to seriously claim that an image is racist when the team with tribal blessing uses essentially the same thing.

It’s really hard to seriously claim that an image is racist when the team with tribal blessing uses essentially the same thing.

    1. The logo isn’t the element of Washington’s scheme that’s causing the primary issue here; and

    2. No, it’s not. Even if “essentially the same thing” meant “exactly the same thing”, tribal blessing changes everything. This is for many of us an issue of intellectual property, merchandising the image of a group without permission or compensation. That issue evaporates when permission is granted and compensation delivered in return.

I don’t take issue with the Blackhawks’ name for a couple of reasons that have been discussed on this message board recently:

    1) The team has formed a partnership with the American Indian Center to help educate the community about Native American history and culture.

    2) It is well-accepted that the name ultimatey refers to an individual leader of the Sauk Native American people (by way of an American World War I military unit) as opposed to a group of people.

    The link
, however, is peculiar in light of its assumed purpose. It looks virtually nothing like link. In reality, it seems more similar to generic Indian-head logos associated with the likes of the link, link, and (formerly) the link. If you’re trying to honor an historical figure through your team’s identity and logo, shouldn’t it look at least a little like that person?

That appears to be a painting of Makataimeshekiakiak late in his life.

The link provices several portraits contemporaneous with his lifetime. All show him with a mostly bald or shaved head and usually decorated top shock. He would have been at his highest renown when these portraits were made, based on the publicity that the Black Hawk War received in 1832. This would be the most logical point of his lifetime to represent him.

If the Blackhawks’ logo is supposed to be Black Hawk in his “younger years,” it appears based on conjecture rather than knowledge of the subject. And, regardless, it still doesn’t look like him at all. The features are softer and more rounded. It doesn’t even work as an abstract or impressionist representation of him.

It’s not a bad logo, aesthetically speaking. But it’s not an accurate depiction of Black Hawk.

If anything the logo draws more upon by what is easily the most-recognized tribute to Black Hawk, the 48-foot tall statue of him overlooking the Rock River outside Oregon, Illinois. Like the logo, the monument is not intended as a literal interpretation of Black Hawk but as inspired by him as stated by the artist himself during its dedication back in 1911. And isn’t “an unconquered spirit” precisely why Black Hawk’s legacy still matters to us today?

    link

Unlike the Seminoles, Redskins, Chief Wahoo or any of the other Native American symbols that has white-boy Lukas contemplating his navel, Black Hawk was a real warrior, a real human being recognized down through history for his bravery even amongst his contemporaries back in the 1830s.

In the strictest sense, the team is not named for him but for a brigade of WWI American soldiers (all white boys just like Lukas but without the guilt) sent to France to fight the Kaiser’s German troops (another group of white boys presumably equally without guilt about who they were killing). A few years later the team founder was granted an NHL franchise which he named for the U.S. 86th Infantry Division he served in, still known today as The Black Hawk Division, one group of warriors honoring an earlier one.

Don’t tell Lukas, but there exists even today a military platform of some repute, the Black Hawk helicopter, named to honor this same brave man — while still other military platforms stigmatize entire ethnic groups like the Apache helicopter — but strangely without Lukas’s whining.

Many paintings and other contemporary renderings of Black Hawk himself exist today but surely anyone as anal-retentive about uniform design as Lukas understands that none of these could possibly serve as a graphical element for a team like the Blackhawks to honor the man. All of these are sad facts both Lukas and the equally-shallow Sarah Dropek neither understand nor dare to contemplate.

As a Nebraska native, alum, and life-long fan, I agree that the BFBS alts are a painful low (moreso than the Denver Bronco side panels in 2002).

But what really gets me is how adidas seemingly does not care about one of their flagship universities, in that Nebraska’s two alts have been little more than slight variations on adidas’s cookie cutter template.

(read more of my rantings here: link)

Did the Broncos do something to tweak their side panels in 2002 that I don’t recall? Because the side panels have been part of their uniform scheme link.

Sorry…I should have been more clear. In 2002, Nebraska added a Denver Bronco-esque side panel, and went white-on-white for road games (instead of white tops/red pants).

    link

In 2002, Nebraska went 7-7, breaking a LONG streak with at least 9 wins and a winning record. Coincidence? I think not.

the Oakland Seals player is not modeled after anybody. it was just a little fun we were having thinking that they only played in the Late 60’S 70’s we might as well make him look like he’s from the 70’s.

Under the Dome was horrible… You want to watch a great show turn on AMC. The Walking Dead. Even if your not a zombie person it is okay, it is about the survivors. It is very bold storytelling, and I guarantee after the pilot and the six episode first season, you won’t be able to turn it off.

AMC has a few good shows, The Walking Dead, Mad Men, The killing.. all quality shows..

Same with the BBC, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Luther, Downton Abbey(if that’s your thing) and the most underrated of them all Orphan Black. if you haven’t seen Orphan Black as of yet, do yourself a favor and do so. The lead actress is phenomenal

Homeland, Justified, Breaking Bad… In my opinion the quality of scripted television has never been higher but very little of it is on the old big 3 networks

Also, The Killing is dead to me after their crappy season 1 finale and season 2 reveal.

Some pretty neat personal logos in that quiz. I got 17 out of 20. I guessed on a few, but I missed Pacquiao, Kobe and LT.

Wasn’t “Under the Dome” already made? I remember it, it was called “The Simpsons Movie.”

Ok… Nike advertising aside, give me a break. They’re going to worry about the color on the bottom of a player’s shoe? Seriously? That’s just.. so.. stupid.

Not as stupid as Nike knowingly giving him a shoe that breaks the rules. My money’s on them having this be the plan from the word go. The subsequent ad as well.

I think that Notre Dame will also be getting uniforms similar to Nebraska and UCLA. If I remember correctly Brian Kelly said that if you didn’t like last years jersey you won’t like this years. Expect the stretch mark fabric up by the shoulders.

His comment was in reference to the “Shamrock Series” uniform they will wear when they play Arizona State at Cowboys Stadium. But, yes, I think their normal jerseys will have that “stretch mark” fabric by the shoulders, and that it will not be easy to see it on the home dark blues at least.

DJ, that’s what I meant when I was talking about the jerseys. If you didn’t like last years shamrock series uniforms, which I didn’t, then you won’t like this years. I don’t think that their regular uniforms will have it but definitely the one for the Arizona State game will.

Big ups to Brinke for this line from Monday’s Wimbledon preview:

“The Adidas/Stella McCartney sub-brand is here – that’s what Caroline Wozniacki will wear in her first-round loss,…”

    Lost 6-2, 6-2 today.

Paul, agree (mostly) with you on network TV. (Though the Sunday night cartoon lineup on Fox is still a must-DVR for me.) With the exception of a few NBC sitcoms over the years, the rest is dreck.

But we’re in a golden age of one-hour dramas on cable. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Rectify – they’re like watching a great one-hour movie every week. And of course, going back a few years, there was The Wire (greatest TV show ever), The Sopranos and Six Feet Under.

budget cuts have forced The New Republic to stop publishing my “One-Man Focus Group” column.

That is bad news…everyone is subject to becoming a salary cap victim.

It sucks, but hey, it happens. I’ve been in this biz for a long time, and I’ve had plenty of gigs that were terminated, contracts that weren’t renewed, etc. It’s part of being a freelancer — there’s no job security, no safety net (i.e., no unemployment insurance, no severance pay, etc.), no guarantees. That’s the trade-off for getting to work at home, having the freedom to set one’s own schedule, etc. Comes with the territory.

On the bright side, I’ve found that the cliché “When one door closes, another opens” is usually true. Some of my best work situations emerged from the ashes of discontinued gigs. I’m hoping that’ll be the case this time, too. And if it doesn’t work out that way, well, OMFG was fun while it lasted, and I’ll just come up with another project. That’s how it works. Or at least that’s how I work.

I really wish OMFG will return in form or another soon. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Why don’t you just self-publish it as it’s own website until if and/or when it gets picked up again by another media outlet? Between mentioning it in Uni Watch as well as it’s exposure in New Republic, it surely has enough of a following to generate a little ad revenue for you.

Isn’t that the way of new media? Create your own distribution and not be beholding to “the man” to provide a paycheck, plus you’re not as answerable to a higher-up.

It is called “One Man Focus Group” – surely it only takes one man to put it out.

Isn’t that the way of new media? Create your own distribution and not be beholding to “the man” to provide a paycheck, plus you’re not as answerable to a higher-up.

Thanks for this explanation. Having made a living in media for over 20 years now, I had no idea how it worked….

My first thought after seeing the BFBS Nebraska unis? Mean Machine from the Longest Yard. Not that big a stretch…link

I was thinking the same thing. If they put Mean Machine on the front, I might be persuaded to support this abomination.

    Logo for Euro 2016 unveiled:

    link

The concept of the logo (not the motto of the event) is “celebrating the art of football.” Appropriate for France, I suppose. The video is nice.

It fit in well with Polish and Ukranian folk art. With France, you can go in a number of ways.

One wonders what the theme will be in 2020, when there will be no single host nation.

I really like the Uruguay faux-lace-up collar. Id like it more without the faux.

Oh, and Brazil looking right proper today.

I like the Hornets court concept. Pleasingly stylish. However, hornets do not make honey, so for me the honeycomb pattern makes no sense

We’ve been thru this countless times. Although hornets do not make honey, they most assuredly DO make hexagonal comb structures. Look it up.

there are many disappointing elements to that Nebraska uniform but the most glaring one to me is the mouth guard that says “team adidas.” the worst

Still trying to find a better shot from the TV but I’m pretty sure that Gaby Sanchez wore a Pirates hat last night against the Mariners that didn’t have the white outline around his P. Someone else might have seen it and caught it.
