Tuesday Morning Uni Watch

Lots of college football news to report today, including the new Georgia Tech uniform shown above. Before I get to that, you might wanna start by checking out Phil’s posts from Saturday and Sunday, since a lot of college football activity was covered there.

Once you’re caught up with that, here are some uni-notable details from this past weekend’s action:

• Tennessee and NC State went color-vs.-color.

• Baylor wore solid black — in 100-degree heat!

• Speaking of Baylor, check out this helmet stripe. Looks like the striping was cut at the bottom of the “ledge.” I’ve seen a fair amount of this scattered around the college ranks and the NFL.

• Illinois quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase still has the pennant-shaped NCAA logo on his jersey, instead of the Big 10 logo.

• Purdue quarterback Rob Henry wears just one glove — on his throwing hand.

• Once Penn State decided to add NOBs, they were faced with an immediate problem: how to fit Stephen Obeng-Agyapong’s name on his jersey.

FNOB alert! That’s Jamil Merrell (duh) of Rutgers, which also has Jamal Merrell on the roster.

• USC defensive back Demetrius Wright was wearing a dark visor in the first half of the Trojans’ game against Hawaii. He later switched to a clear visor.

Meanwhile, additional FBS uniform changes continue to come in. Here’s the latest (uni changes for non-FBS schools are scattered throughout the Ticker):

• As you can see at the top of the page, Russell Athletic went a little overboard with the honeycomb for the new Georgia Tech uniforms. As several observers have already noted, the players look like they’re covered in bubble wrap. Looks even better (read: worse) from behind. Lots of game photos here, and you can see the gold and blue jersey options here. (Another weird thing about these uniforms: The sleeve has a navy stripe at the cuff, but many of the players were wearing a honeycomb-patterned undershirt whose sleeve matched the pattern of the jersey sleeve. This had the effect of making the navy stripes look like memorial armbands.)

• I had already reported on Colorado State having new uniforms, but I didn’t know they’d also added an “A” to the back of the helmet.

• FAU has changed from a uniform to a costume. Those wings on the shoulder are a standard Adidas stock graphic, by the way, as you can see in on the new uniforms being worn by the new Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, and Eastern Washington. You can almost hear the Adidas account rep: “You’re the [Owls, Eagles, Falcons], so how about if we give you some wings on the jersey?” Lame. (To see the part of the Adidas catalog where the wings and other stock sleeve graphics are listed, go to the fourth page of this PDF.)

• New Mexico has a new helmet and new pants.

•  Purdue is adding a Neil Armstrong memorial helmet decal. No official word yet on what it will look like, although this design has been circulating. Not sure if that’s official or just a concept, though.

• I had mentioned that Rice had switched from Nike to Adidas but didn’t mention that some players are wearing undershirts with a wing pattern. I like this better than the standard-issue wing pattern on all the aforementioned Adidas jerseys.

• Stanford has dropped the stripes from its pants.

• Another standard stock graphic from Adidas is the “claw stripe,” which Texas State is now using instead of TV numbers.

• You know, at first I was happy about stripes and TV numbers moving down onto the undershirt sleeves. But look what Notre Dame’s going to wear next week ugh. Should’ve known this concept would go from good to stupid in no time flat.

They’re still playing that other sport: Although football got all the attention over the past few days, there were some interesting uni-related moments on the baseball diamond as well. Por ejemplo:

• Uni-numerical glitch yesterday in Pittsburgh, where Pirates second baseman Brock Holt had his uni number on the wrong side of his jersey. The team later helpfully tweeted that the snafu was due to “a mistake made by a human being” (no doubt a huge blow to everyone who had chalked it up to the sinister robot conspiracy).

• Bizarre scene yesterday in St. Looey, as Jon Jay reached on an HBP, trotted down to first, and hiked up one of his pant legs so he could remove his shinguard — which he’d been wearing under his pants. Unusual! But the kicker came when he removed the shinguard, thereby revealing that he was wearing argyle socks! Never seen that before. Are these his lucky socks? I’m trying to find out more. (Screen shots by Scott Bumb.)

• Our latest hosiery hero is Twins closer Glen Perkins, who’s started wearing “TC” stirrups. “The sideline reporter for the Twins’ TV broadcast said Perkins would be wearing the ‘TC’ stirrups when the team wears the ‘TC’ hats,” says reader Matt Heitkamp. “When they wear their ‘M’ hats, he’ll go pajama-pantsed, because he doesn’t have ‘M’ stirrups.”

Collector’s Corner

By Brinke Guthrie

Time for NFL football! The season kicks off tomorrow night (Wednesday Night Football?) with the Cowboys and the Giants. so we’re all NFL this week, beginning with this ceramic Cowboys helmet bank and this killer Damac Giants poster — a good pair of items to represent the season-opening game.

Here are the rest of this week’s finds:

• I’ve seen plenty of these 1970s gumball helmet kit sets before, but I don’t think I knew they were sold as a desk-set thing. Don’t think I’ve seen a helmet kit with the old-style goalposts before, either. I remember that Chargers bolt, always thought it was waaaaay off the mark!

• This 1960s 49ers bobble looks like he’s been in the box ever since he rolled off the assembly line! Staying with the Niners, how about a 1970s helmet buggy?

This pricey pennant is for the 1968 “NFL World Championship Game,” which we now refer to as Super Bowl II.

• These NFL playing cards came along for free with “Personna” razor blades.

• Ladies, here’s a 1970s Kansas City Chiefs purse for you.

• Cool cover art on this 1968 AFL Autograph Yearbook. And speaking of the AFL, I highly recommend this book. [So do I. ”” PL]

• This 1976 NFL drinking glass is from Welch’s (hmmm, was it once filled with jelly?). Pair it with this 1976 NFL thermos.

• Never seen these 1960s Cleveland Browns beverage tumblers before.

• Had these! I think. I know I had the Cowboys version (which I’ve been looking for), but these Bengals Hallmark stickers look to be still sealed in the package.

That’s it for this week. But if you want to get in that NFL state of mind, and have a good laugh besides, check out this really weird Monday Night Football promo spot from 1970.

Too good for the Ticker: Jon Solomonson was having breakfast at a restaurant in Kissimmee, Florida, and this sensational jersey (click to enlarge):

image.jpeg

How awesome is that?! The team was called the Golden Brahmans, and you can learn more about them here.

We all know the basic limitations of designing a football jersey — you have to put the numbers on the front, in fairly large numerals. But as this Golden Brahmans jersey shows, that doesn’t mean you can’t have an interesting design that references your team name. Makes me wonder if a similar approach could be used for, say, NFL teams. If anyone wants to try some concepts based on this format, I’d be interested in seeing them.

Uni Watch News Ticker: If you enjoyed yesterday’s photos from my Sunday cookout party, you can see some additional photos here. … On Friday I Ticker-linked to these amazing 1974 East Leyden High School basketball uniforms. “I had the pleasure of wearing that exact template, also in the 1973-74 season, for Grice Junior High School in Hamilton, New Jersey,” writes Ken Stephon. “I was on the bench as the secret weapon eighth man!. Sorry, no color shots available, but we were in orange and black.” … Bradley Wasserman got a close look at Gio Gonzalez’s glove and saw that “Hialeah” is stitched onto the thumb — a reference to Gonzalez’s hometown of Hialeah, Florida. … Due to some new uni regulations, one of the most iconic striped jersey designs in high school football is being scrapped (from J.P. McCarty). … Someone has come up with a very amusing anti-corporate project on Facebook (thanks, Brinke). … Garrett Holt notes that Mark Reynolds’s cap was squatchee-free on Friday night. Anyone know if that’s a standard thing for him? ”¦ Birthday boy Marty Hick hit the big four-oh last week, and his wife, Holly, got him several excellent presents, including some striped tube socks and a 1999 NHL coloring book. Also, Marty and Holly are expecting their first child, and a friend gave them some Chucks-themed booties — excellent! ”¦ Because They Can Dept.: West Salem High School in Oregon now has black turf field. “Gross,” says Desmond Jones. ”¦ Jerry Wolper found this photo of Branch Rickey holding what appears to be a prototype of the Pirates’ early batting helmets. ”¦ Latest school to play G.I. Joe: Becker College (from Jon Suarez). … Speaking of the G.I. Joe trend, Ohio Northern (on whose campus I stayed while reporting the story about Wilson’s football factory in Ada, Ohio, two winters ago) is taking the militarism theme to the next level. “They’re having a fighter jet fly over and everything,” says Bryce Sedio. Peachy. Has anyone told these people that we already have a national holiday for veterans? It’s called Veterans Day, and it’s in November. … Sunday’s New York Times had a good article about families where the husband has lost his job and the wife is now the main breadwinner. The thing that makes it uni-relevant is that most of the husbands profiled in the article used to work for Russell Athletic, which has severely cut back on its domestic labor force and outsourced much of its work overseas. You can read the whole thing here. … John Moist reports that he’s being bombarded with SF Giants clearance ads like never before. “Makes me wonder if they have uni changes in store for next year,” he says. … Saturday was the Euro-American Challenge — a football game (that’s American football, not soccer) played in Poland. You can get a good sense of the uniforms here. “Who doesn’t love a white helmet combined with old Philly Eagles-style decal and the American flag?” asks Kacper Kowalski (who describes himself as “a big fan of Uni Watch and probably the only one from Poland”). … Hope College — a D3 school — is using the NFL’s captaincy patch design. “This guy even has two colored-in stars,” notes Jonathan Cain. “I kind of doubt they will ever need to color in four.” … “After reading a story in Runner’s World about how long it takes for a shoe to break down environmentally, I started feeling guilty about buying a new pair,” says Harvey Lee. “That makes me wonder about Oregon, with all their helmets. What do they do with their lightly used helmets? Do they recycle them, or is there a giant landfill in Eugene?” Good question. Anyone..? ”¦ UConn and Fairfield played a white-vs.-white volleyball game the other day. “It was very confusing,” says Gregory Koch. ”¦ Jonathan Leib reports that Old Dominion wore a white helmet, instead of their usual silver, for Saturday’s home opener against Duquesne. … Fordham has a new helmet. Instead of using the “F” logo on both sides, they now have the “F” on one side and TV numbers on the other (from Chester Baker). … Old Navy had to recall a bunch of shirts that incorrectly attributed a title to the Houston Texans. ”¦ Here’s a rare sight: a quarterback wearing No. 0. That’s J.T. O’Sullivan of the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders. “I assume the 0 is for O’Sullivan,” says Ted Field. … Speaking fo the CFL, the Canadian postal service has unveiled a line of CFL stamps. … New football uniforms for Slippery Rock (from Zack Tanner). … Here’s another sports-themed corn maze, this one honoring Lou Gehrig (from Michael Romero). … Northern Iowa will wear this white helmet for a white-out game against Illinois State next month (from Calvin Alger). … Love this vintage baseball uniform from a zinc plant team. … The Wounded Warrior Project arranged to have an Army veteran who lost his leg in Afghanistan work as a U.S. Open ballboy. In an apparent oversight, none of the players wore camouflage (thanks, Brinke). … Fun cross-sport DIY project from Thomas Qualls, who writes: “I found a couple of baseball jerseys at Goodwill a while back ($3 each!), and one of them was a nice dark navy with gold piping — perfect for a St. Louis Blues treatment. I had to remove all the previous lettering and numbering, but once those were gone I had a nice blank canvas. Here’s how it turned out.” … Mike Colvin attended Sunday’s Yanks/O’s game, where he was sitting behind a guy wearing an Orioles uni-timeline T-shirt. … Whoa, check out the super-stripey football uniforms and gradient helmet design being worn by Bethune-Cookman, an FCS team (from Riley Adair). ”¦ John English has painted a portion of his back yard fence to look like the Oakland Coliseum left field corner. ”¦ While watching the Hokies/Yellowjackets game last night, I was surprised to hear a great song by one of my favorite bands — the Eddy Current Suppression Ring — serving as the soundtrack to an AT&T commercial. The ad apparently debuted about two weeks ago. You can listen to the song in its entirety here. It’s from the excellent Primary Colours album. ”¦ Apparently there’s a barber in Bedford, Indiana, who’s a big Steelers fan (from Troy Guthrie). ”¦ A Los Angeles sports logo mash-up shirt appeared last night on Conan O’Brien (from Rex Henry). ”¦ Pink practice jerseys for the New Zealand All Blacks. “No reason given,” says Leo Strawn. … Nick Postorino notes that Starting Lineup’s MLB figurines in the late 1980s (and maybe during other periods, I don’t know) never had pinstripes — not even for the Yankees! Weird. ”¦ Sam Houston, we have a problem. That’s the new uni for Sam Houston State. “What the hell is that jockstrap-looking thing on the pants?” asks Victor Quintana. Hey, if the Swooshkateers could combine the jockstrap pants with those sports bra jerseys from a few years back, they’d have a real winner!

The “Rambling Wreck” was just that in what will be this season’s worst uni alternate design. Sorry but you simply can’t have the local church quilting circle design and construct your kit. Add chicken wire to your helmet and now you’ve got a total fubar.

If I were a GT alumnus, I’m filling in zeros for this year’s athletic fund drive donation.

The mindset of uni designers these days seems to be, “Let’s do something really different that’s never been done and it automatically will be good just because it’s so different.”

The answer to that, of course, is, “not necessarily.”

What next, helmets with the pro stripes running over the topo of the helmet from earhole to earhole? That’d be different.

Like I’ve been saying for years, these are not uniforms; they’re costumes. And the whole point of a costume is to be outrageous. So that’s what we’re seeing.

The Jeff: “What exactly separates a uniform from a costume?”

Paul: “When it’s designed primarily for (a) shock value and (b) merchandising.”

I don’t think that any definition of costume implies either of those two things. In fact, since merchandising is only a step away from branding and identity you might say that merchandising is sometimes a legitimate purpose of a uniform.

I also think that your argument as to why shock value/merchandising are bad would be worth hearing.

Just ’cause GT is an engineering school doesn’t mean they need to have equations graphed on their jerseys and pants.

The “A” for Colorado State, being orange, is likely a reference to the school’s origins as Colorado A&M, when orange was a school color.

GT’s uniforms wouldn’t be terrible if they had solid, navy numerals. The sublimated honeycomb pattern on everything is overkill. Not a fan of patterns on numbers, but I’m sure it’s the next trend.

Well, let’s see, we’ve spent the last few years watching uni designs that lead the eye to the players’ asses.

Might as well move on to the armpits and crotch…
    link
    link

If the University of Idaho hadn’t lost that season opener a few years back, we’d still be admiring the Vandals “skidmark.”

    I dunno, some might.
But ugly is ugly, and dumb is dumb.

Hey, some people think the Kardashians are worth paying attention to. Doesn’t mean they really are.

True that. Here’s an example: I was all set to praise Bethune-Cookman’s new uniforms for being different, but now that I’ve had time to consider it, I realize all they did was press my favorite buttons (hot colors, patterns, not a trace of white anywhere). I’d get sick of looking at them before long.

    Think about it.

For decades the decoration on football unis has been designed to lead the eye to the helmet, upper body and legs…those things endemic to the game, and representative of it: Contact, upper body strength and speed. That’s a valid design platform.

Now it appears a lot of people would prefer to focus on other…areas.

That black turf field is a bad idea. Normal color turf fields get really hot in the sun. I played in a game in high school with black turf endzones and it was about 85 degrees, and close to 100 on the turf. We weren’t even allowed to warm up in them. One of the coaches said that it was over 120 in the black endzones.

The black turf is actually cooler cause the black will absorb the heat, and the base for this actually works as a heatsink.

I think the worst part will be when it starts fading. Fortunately, high school football in Oregon is almost universally a nighttime affair, so excessive heat will not be an issue for games. I’d hate to practice on it, though.

The Golden Brahmans uniform concept there is cool, but there are only a few NFL teams that I think could make it work. Dallas has a simple logo so they could do it, maybe something like take the shield outline from the raiders logo and use that?

Well, in soccer in Mexico, UNAM Pumas have been using that since the 80’s. As far as I know it is the only team in soccer to go with such a big logo.
    link
    link
Except one year when Nike decided to make it really small and the cost was that the contract was ended next year and the team switched to Lotto
(The ones on the bottom left and as you can see, Nike also did the regular Puma a lot smaller than what the team is used to in the 80’s and now)
    link

I love that Golden Brahmans jersey.

And, yes!, think of the possibilities today. The key is to keep it simple (just two colors), SILHOUTTED and bold.

Return the proper Lions logo and put it on the front of the jersey. Do the same with the standing Buffalo Bill. The leaping Jaguar. The Cowboys star. The Dolphin. The Chiefs arrowhead. The Chargers bolt. The Bears head.

Where helmet logos don’t quite work, use a secondary logo. Or come up with a new secondary logo.

    I love this notion.

    Paul,

Nathan Scheelhaase’s jersey got torn really bad early in the 1st Quarter. I’m guessing he’s wearing the replacement jersey in that picture.

Its a variation of the same font they used in 2000, and has been used by a few Russel Schools since (Ohio’s black jerseys for example).

The Brock Holt wrong-side-number jersey reminds me of Little League. There’s always one kid whose Mom sews somwething wrong on his uni–Cap letter too high, sleeve patch wrong arm, etc.

“Another standard stock graphic from Adidas is the “claw stripe,” which Texas State is now using instead of TV numbers.”

Also wearing the “Claw Stripe” were the Arkansas State Red Wolves…

    link

    and the Missouri State Bears…

    link

I guess Bobcats, Wolves, and Bears all have the same paw marks.

Baylor used to have a big bear paw on their jerseys in the 80s, it was located on the upper shoulder pad area.

What is distracting to me in regards to Tech’s uniform is the two shades of blue in the uniform. Personally I haven’t like none of their uniforms since they went to the wishbone. It’s a shame because their uniforms have so much potential. Also, I have seen highlights of the Mizzou Tigers game and it was tough to read their tv numbers because of the lack of contrast between the gold and black.

Saving grace of the “M” cap is that the stupid red brim road hat (“Hey, that’s been a total ‘fan cap’ worn by people under the age of 9 for, like, 40 years…let’s wear it on the field!”) stays in the clubhouse.

True. I wish they’d toss out the M cap, home whites, and 2 navy alternates and just go with the throwback home and gray road jerseys. Maybe that would get them to score a little higher in the uniform rankings too. ;-)

I’m hardly an insect expert, but it seems silly for the GT Yellow jackets to have a honeycomb design on their uniforms when a yellow jacket is a wasp and doesn’t even produce honey.

Ha! Was thinking that over the weekend.

But, come on, we can’t expect these designers to do any homework/research. That would just get in the way of their “interpretation”.

Then don’t think of it as a honeycomb design — just think of it as a comb design. And wasps do indeed build and live in hexagonal-comb–patterned structures:
    link

“Honeycomb” is a misnomer here, but everyone’s using that term (myself included) because just saying “comb-patterned” sounds weird, like you’re referring to a hair comb or something.

I know that, deal with at least one of those combs a summer. Was more commenting on the misnomer.

But it IS a bit like Oregon State using a pile of sticks because that’s how Beavers build their dams.

You mean a faggot of sticks? A faggot might look quite nice on AN OSU helmet.

(I know hoq childish that is, but I still laugh when people say, “duty.”)

Somebody at Kearny HS should look into the Bethune-Cookman uniforms to see if their shoulder stripes comply with the new NFHS regulations.

I like the stripes on the shoulders of Bethune-Cookman. They’ve been using that unusual bat symbol on their helmets for a little while. I remember seeing it for the first time when they played Hampton. It looked cooler on their dark red helmets in gold. The gradient helmet it’s on the okay scale for me right now. I used to not like stripes on the shoulders and eventually I came around to it and one team that took me from meh to like were the Pine Bluff (AR)Zebras link link Plus BYU’s 1940 jerseys and the wilder side of shoulder stripes – University of North Dakota circa 1947-1950 link

I’d need to see more of the UConn and Fairfield volleyball pictures before I determine that it was confusing

“UConn and Fairfield played a white-vs.-white volleyball game the other day. “It was very confusing,” says Gregory Koch.”

i agree…what’s next, do we need clash kits for tennis players now…?

” How about the Russell brand shoes in that picture?”

Boy, id hate to wear Russell Brand shoes.

More winged Jersies. That is NSU (OK) Riverhawks. The name used to be the Redmen, but they were a victim of the NCAA’s stupid mascot rule. Also a Seattle Inspired helmet.

    link

    link

    link

But we’re talking about the stock wing template used by Adidas. Those are Nike unis. Also, that’s a pretty unique wing design on the white tops. Not used by Oregon or anyone that I know.

“no doubt a huge blow to everyone who had chalked it up to the sinister robot conspiracy”

That’s what the robots WANT you to think…

Does anybody know conclusively what the NFL’s rules are on the new colored cleats?

Used to be teams were either white cleat-ed or black. Now we have team colors, but is that a third option the entire team must adhere to, or is it “the team has to designate either white or black for players not wearing team colors”?

“Now we have team colors, but is that a third option the entire team must adhere to, or is it “the team has to designate either white or black for players not wearing team colors”?”

From what I see, it’s the latter. Jay cutler was wearing (off-color) link cleats in the preseason while mostly everyone else was wearing link *blech* cleats.

Those GT uni’s last night were rough. I was watching with my dad, who actually said “why are Georgia Tech’s uniforms all faded?”. But the really sad thing about Georgia Tech adopting silly templates with swooshy stripes for their every day uni’s, beyond the fact that they obviously look terrible, is that they used to have quite a distinctive and classy look…

    link

They could have absolutely owned the two sleeve stripe look, even on today’s sleeveless jerseys. Instead, they let Russell turn them into wannabe clowns. What a shame.

That is exactly what they need to be wearing on the road.It was a great look. The home I’d like to see the blue jersey with the gold pants or the gold jersey with the white pants. Looks much better than the stuff they had last night. Of course it’s sad that the stuff they are wearing this year is still better than the last few years.

Also was it my TV or did the areas where the players names go have a varying sized gold area depending on the length of the players name or did it vary by cut of the uniform? It looked like a bunch of different sizes for that golden notch which looked sloppy.

Thomas Qualls did a bang-up job on that Blues’ top, but sadly my eye goes right to the trapezoid between the “L” and the “U”. True, cutting that shape out reveals some yellow piping, adding visual clutter, but how would it look if there were a block of navy tackle twill in that space?

Per Joe Skiba, NFL captains’ patches this season are the same as last season. Fifth-year captains get a gold “C,” and so do sixth-year captains. So, basically, after the fourth gold star and the gold C, you max out.

Just highlighting how silly it is.

When the NFL scrapped the misleading “NFL EQUIPMENT” tag from jerseys, I was really hoping that they’d fix the other mistake at the same time.

    Thanks.
Those are also from Holly. She gave me five of them. I already put one on my teacher bag. Not many fourth graders are familiar with The Minutemen.

Did I see a Q&A Uni Watch entry or did I just dream that up?

Which is weird because I pulled it hours after the first comment on this entry here.

Purdue will be wearing a decal honoring Neil Armstrong starting against Notre Dame and continuing through the season.

Look at all those hipster d-bags at that party. And Lukas has zero idea how to properly grill. It’s comical.

Look at all those hipster d-bags at that party.

I assume he’s referring to these two:
    link

They crashed the party, which was kinda rude, but they also brought a shitload of beer, so I let them stay.

Did USC go with the gold flaked facemasks or whatever they were supposed to be? Any good pics of it? I want to see it in action before deciding if I like the idea. On one hand they’re still gray and my massive hatred for gray facemasks says I still shouldn’t like it. But then again if it looks more gold than gray I will approve…
I wish they’d just go the rest of the way and change then to gold full time (or back to the cardinal) but I’d be the 1 person on the planet saying that.

I actually have a pack of those Personna NFL cards in good condition. Used to play Solitaire with them all the time.

Wow Paul doing a nice job covering college football on a weekday. I realize when the NFL has not started yet.

I figured New Mexico would change their look with a new coach.

That was a cool Golden Brahmans jersey. I always look around in restaurants that have sports items on display.

I am glad NBCsports is showing some CFL games. It has been a long time since I have been able to watch any. Time Warner Cable does not get the NFL Network. So I did watch bit of Hamilton and Toronto. Then Calgary vs Edmonton.

About 7 years ago we took my dad to the Labour day classic in Hamilton. That was a fun and neat atmosphere.

Man my Alma mater(SHSU) screwed the pooch on those new unis. Glad to see some MEAC coverage in the ticker today.

I don’t watch much college football anymore, but I checked out the Chik-fil-A NCAA games this weekend as a way to support the sponsor (since they don’t have any locations near where I live). I think that having both teams wear their colored uniforms is a great idea and very visually appealing. They should do this throughout college football whenever it is viable. Obviously you couldn’t have red vs. red games or blue vs. blue games, but when it is appropriate I think they should do this whenever possible. In reality, with so many teams having a third alternate jersey, you could probably play color-vs-color in most games.

if you can’t buy the product, you didn’t support the sponsor. they don’t care two hoots if you watch, the only support they care about is if your watching turns into sales of their product.

but bring on the colour v colour for sure.

I’m going to have to vote against color v color. There’s already been some bad matchups with Illini v Badgers basketball for example. It’s not appealing to watch, either. I don’t want to see red v blue or black v orange, etc; it’s just a clusterfuck of colors.

Paul, the food looked amazing but that looks like a cheap ass carving knife. Live a little and buy some good quality German steel. :0

From the Collector’s Corner: “- This 1976 NFL drinking glass is from Welch’s (hmmm, was it once filled with jelly?).”

Yup, they were. There was a metal lid that you had to pop off, without breaking the glass rim, in order to get to the jelly goodness. Had a few of ’em when I was a kid. (He said, showing his age)

In reference to John Moist being bombarded with ads for Giants gear, the Labor Day Weekend mlb.com sale (as shown on the link) was not limited to Giants gear, nor was it applicable to their current design. The sale was only for items already in clearance, which for the Giants jerseys are items related to the 2010 World Series. Since the Giants road jerseys were changed for this season, I don’t foresee changes for next year. Maybe the home jerseys could get some consideration though. In either case, I wouldn’t mind seeing the gold trim removed.

    – You may have seen this shot of Isaac Redman modeling the new uni in a bathroom prior to the unveiling. He later Tweeted that the lavatory locale “was because we had to hide from the media assholes!” Hey, man, I wasn’t even there.
