amazing uni-design on Tyson Gay yesterday at the trials
    link

so much better than anything adidas has ever put out for track. just simple and the red and blue stripes from the shoulder to the hip! plus Gay rocked it out with the top and then the spandex bottoms instead of going with the singlet

But were they perfect in every detail?

Looks like the M’s didn’t get retro batting helmets.

Still, does my heart proud to see a Seattle pitcher wearing #56 (I guess he always wears 56 – too bad they weren’t in Pilots throwbacks).

From yesterday… it looked to me like the “S” on the front of the Mariners throwback is wayyyyy too big. Doesn’t look right.

Actually, from what Tom Hammond stated last night, that was in tribute to Jesse Owens’ 1936 performance in Berlin. And isn’t it ironic that adidas is a German company?

My that’s alot of pink. And the Pink Panther doesn’t look very pleased that he has a 3-wood shoved up his backside.

That’s two days now where the picture is of a dude wearing something tight. Then again it was a slow day?

Sure wish the Pirates and Rays had got the stirrups (both teams) and hats (Rays) right last night.

Red, white-striped stirrups on both would have been great.

Teams seem to be nodding at TBTC’s now, rather than really focussing on them the way they did when the idea was new.

Too bad. What happened to that old saw about, “If you’re gonna do a job, do it right”?

(I promise I won’t mention those purely fictional Cubs hats with their ’48 throwbacks again. Oh, damn, I did anyway.)

Best TBTC of the year so far (meaning most complete and accurate) must be the A’s-Rangers. Any others I’m forgetting?

I have a question, next year will be my senior year in football and i was putting some thought into wearing stir-ups for a game. Would this be a stupid idea since it isnt baseball?

    Joe,
Credit for thinking outside the uni-box. But sadly, you would look like a tool. Stir-ups are for baseball. Wearing them for football looks like something that would be in a Will Ferrell movie.

How much are you willing to bet that those Pink Panther head covers, pink shafts, and pink shirt for the caddie are because of a behind the scenes deal she made with the ad agency in charge of getting the word out about Pink Panther 2?

Black socks and black-blue hats with pins for Mets today. They do that often?

    I hope not.

Didn’t the Padres play in throwback uniforms a few weeks back without matching batting helmets, and now yesterday they did have the matching? Well they looked much better.

Indians look fantastic today… I love that off-white and NNOB.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before today, or if it is something new/something that has gone unnoticed, but Nick Leyva (Blue Jays third base coach) has the wrong crest on his black uniform. It has a big white border around it, which none of the players have, so I’m assuming it was a crest intended for white uniform. If anyone has MLB.TV and wants to check it out look at Rios’ & Wells’ at bats in the 6th, they showed him a lot then (at least on the Jays broadcast)
Something tells me that girl in the main picture has opened her mouth like that in the past, and hoped something shot in it……..
All I got to say to that is: WOW!! LOL.

I was thinking that maybe she was sponsored by Owens-Corning…

here is the best I can do, using MLB.com Gameday. But like I said if someone with MLB.TV can watch the jays feed of the game, they showed him a lot right after Rios tripled

no…only the second time…and they are 1-0 (so far) in that wretched combo…fuckin sacrilege

on another note…was off the boards (obviously) from friday through now…and i LOVED…LOVED…LOVED the blue/grays…oh…i’d give ANYTHING for them to bring that back permanently…i’d even “allow” them to wear the black/blue caps with the pins…

    well…no, not really…but that was a SCHWEEEEETTTT look (blue/gray)
largest strike zone of all time?!
    link

Actually, unlikely that his strike zone is much different from yours.

Here’s something to try at your next softball game. Take a bat, and hold the knob at your “letters”. most likely the head of the bat comes down to your knees, approximating the strike zone.

Try it with adults of varying heights, and it’s generally the same. When you look at the picture of Kareem, you can kind of make out where his knees are… a lot of his height differential is in the lower leg.

Doesn’t work with Eddie Gaedel, but I’m 6’7″, and my strike zone is the same as my 5’8″ friends.

The EURO seems to be leading the UniWorld in human rights messages, from the armbands promoting peace to the racism messages to the Respect patch on every player’s arm.

In the EURO today (don’t have ability to do screen grabs – sorry), one of the Spanish players was having some major problems with his “Respect” patch on the arm of his jersey. Most of the letters in the apparently embroidered patch, were fraying or disappearing altogether.

I wonder if this means he has no respect or he is in the process of losing respect?

TIVO to the rescue… it was at the 67:26 mark of the game – Spain’s number 6… and it’s not embroidered. The letters are simply falling off. It’s down to SPE T.

Unless it’s slow pitch, where all it needs to do is hit the plate, to be a trike.

Yes. You’d stand out like a clown, and end up being the subject of a weekend uniwatch blog post.

They used to do it a lot more often, but not so much anymore.

I actually kinda like the two-tone caps with the pinstripes. It’s got a retro look to it. The black sleeves and socks, however, should only be worn with black jerseys, NEVER with the pinstripes (because it’s fug) or the plain whites (because the blue on white looks a million times better).

The swimming trials are on NBC right now, and EVERY SINGLE SWIMMER is in the LZR. Seriously, it looks like everyone\’s on the same black and gray team. Kind of eerie. Are there plans to make a USA-colors LZR for Beijing?

I just got an e-mail from Paul asking us from saying “Damn it, [insert name here]!” It’s at the point now where we can’t even say link anymore.

I think on the picture, part of it has to do with the fact that the bottom of the pants aren’t really needed. With all the logo creep that goes on in sports, it’s a shocker we aren’t all thrilled over an Adidas logo getting cropped out of the picture.

Not so fast, if you find yourself a pair with a nice stripe comb at the top, just throw a pair of ankle length white socks over the top and you will be major league old-school.

stirrups in football would look dope. ignore those donkeys who insist on sport-specific accessories. the point of trying something new is, you know…

well…you got me there stuby…afterall, you are a giants fan, so you never know

but…i was always hoping they’d break out what link wore in the shack for sunday singles…

    now THAT would be awesome

Just noticed that when they show the Cubs logo as a graphic on ESPN it has a ™ in place of the ®.

Not necessarily uni-related, but interesting anyway. I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this, but during the EURO final, referee Roberto Rosetti appears to have a cross hanging from his whistle. Can’t find a good picture to link to.

As i watch the Astros vs the Dodgers tonight Home Plate Umpire Gary Cedarstrom (#38) is not only wearing the hockey goaltenders style of mask but the hockey neck protector. As a goalie myself, I love the protection that the protector gives, but this is the first MLB umpire I have seen wearing one. Sorry about not having pics. I’ll post some as soon as I can.

Here is a picture from earlier in the season of him wearing the neck protector. It looks like the Itech N18 neck protector. These things hold up well against hockey pucks but how well do they do against baseballs?
