Behold, The Great And Powerful LeBron!

76075879SD008_Cleveland_Cav

LeBron James, the all-powerful and all-mighty will answer your questions in due time, my pretties, but first you must answer his:

1. Why did Notre Dame wear black basketball uniforms on Saturday night?

2a. Why can’t Lew Ford hold onto his bat … or a job in the majors?
2b. How awesome is it that both the Athletics and Hanshin Tigers wore white?

3. Why are the Celtics still wearing their green and gold jerseys on the road?

Finally (less of a question and more of a statement) …

4. Godzilla! Godzilla! Wait, that’s just Jack Cust. Throw a curveball.

Bryan

That right there is Paul Lukas pet peeve. Watch it go away soon.

It seems like the Celtics have had their St. Patty’s uniforms for the whole road trip. Maybe the equipment manager didn’t want to pack so many green jerseys. They get the job done as road non-whites, so why not cut down on laundry? Prediction: once the Celtics are home again, the gold-lettered jerseys will become dormant until next year, at the earliest.

I like the green and old alot better than those green and black alternates, but I agree it is time to put them away. And since when did we start to brag about being the first post on this board? That’s two days in a row someone has done that.

The green and gold Celtics unis are great. They should definitely keep them long-term. I don’t see it happening as black is the ‘in’ color of the decade. (no offense to Minna)

After starting undefeated, I’ve now lost two games. Pitt over Michigan State and K-State over Wisconsin.

    Damn

the green and gold celts st. paddy’s day uni’s are, as ladainian, adrian, brandon, kevin, steve, matt, hope, pete, landon, and diana would say, “better than your better” when it comes to 3rd jerseys.
they run circles around most teams standard away jerseys as well. i wouldnt be surprised to see them replace the green/black alternates in the coming years.

with all the focus on ncaa sites yesterday, i was curious.
creighton made the nit, and as a low seed (3) hosted a first round game on tuesday 3/18.
now, qwest center was also an early round site on 3/20-22 (thursday-saturday).
had florida lost their first round nit game, creighton would have hosted san diego st on friday 3/21 also at qwest center creating a potential nightmare for facilities people.

    the schedule would have been
3/18- creighton v. rhode island (nit game, nit approved floor and stadium set up)
3/20- 4 opening round games (ncaa games, ncaa approved floor and stadium set up)
3/21- creighton v. san diego st. (nit game, nit approved floor and stadium set up)
3/22 2 second round games (ncaa games, ncaa approved floor and stadium set up)

thats a lot of bouncing back and forth.
i cant remember in recent history another venue who had to deal with that situation (or if that 2nd round nit game ever came into play in conjunction with the 2nd round of the ncaa’s)

    any help?

I think Creighton would’ve moved their game to Civic Auditorium, since the NCAA has the Qwest Center from Wednesday-Saturday.

I don’t remember anything over a course of four day like that, but I do remember two years back when the Twins and White Sox had to play a make up game in the Metrodome at 12 or 1, and then the University of Minnesota had a football game in there that night, so they had to transform the entire facility from baseball to football in a couple of hours.

The A’s catcher wearing #24 in that Lew Ford picture makes me wonder what the A’s will do if they ever decide to retire Rickey Henderson’s number. Do they retire #35, the number he wore with his first stint with the team (6 years) or do they retire #24, which he wore for his next 3 stints with the team (parts of 8 different seasons)?

The issue in this case wouldn’t have been arena turnaround, it would’ve been the fact that the NCAA is in the Qwest Center not just for the first and second rounds, but for the 4 days from Wednesday-Saturday. It is like when the circus comes to town, nothing else can be in that arena for those 4 days.

There have been plenty of times at Madison Square Garden (and other bball/hockey arenas) where they change from b-ball to hockey and back with a concert thrown in on back to back days

Those Notre Dame uni’s are not black. They are a dark green. However, they should have stuck with their navy uni’s.
Those Notre Dame uni’s are not black. They are a dark green. However, they should have stuck with their navy uni’s.
What, bottom of the ocean green?

Speaking of short turnarounds. Dayton hosted the play-in game on Tuesday night, then opened up the NIT at home on Wednesday vs. Cleveland State. The court was all NCAA’d for Tuesday, but by Wednesday the UD logo was back at center court, plus they had added the NIT logos.

The green and gold Celtic unis make a nice alt. As mentioned earlier they are now over exposed. Reminds me of the “Texans should wear their reds” movement here in Houston. Those made a cool once a year special occasion alt. Now we get them twice a year and the effect is lost. And wearing them as the regular shirts would make them just run of the mill. The lesson? All the time isn’t always better than some of the time.

Oh, and nothing says “I’m a loser” like “First Post!” I mean link.

It was just a few days ago that everyone was loving on the Green/Gold Alt’s and were saying they would be great to keep longterm over their current jerseys.

I like them a lot and hope they wear them the rest of the season if for nothing else then to cause bickering here.

False. They’re black. The black jerseys have been the Irish’s road alternate jersey for the last two seasons. There’s even a prominent ND basketball blog called “Black and Green.”

I still love the Celtics’ green/gold alts. Anything is better than the “lazy, every team does it now” black alts.

So, how many green unis do the Celts have this year? Let’s take a count:

    1. Current green and white (with the vertically-arched “CELTICS” in the front).
    2. The green and black alt.

    3. The Hardwood Classic 1957 with the radially arched “BOSTON” on the front.

    4. The St. Pats Day green-and-gold, which should be the second alt IMHO.

    Am I right?

I do conversions here at Ohio State at Value City Arena…to go from hockey to basketball and vice versa usually takes only 4-5 hours tops. We’ve done it in the same day at least 4 times I can remember (I’m a junior and in my 3rd year of work at VCA). Also, to change an NIT setup to an NCAA setup back and forth would be fairly easy. The hardest part would likely be where the media is seated and the giant stickets on the court…sometimes they tear the paint off the logos.
A better question is why is Miami wearing black today?
Probably because they want to look hideous. I think those are just a little worse than the Notre Dame jerseys because of the orange. I’m generally a supporter of black jerseys, but both of these are ugly.

As far as MSG is concerned, I don’t think they have ever done hockey to basketball on the same day because they are afraid of the court being wet probably. I think they have only been doing it since the NHL lockout, the first time being that 15-round shootout the Rangers had against the Capitals which followed an overtime or double OT game by the Knicks, so the timeline was sped up, but it was a good day, as I believe both teams won.

I’m a Mason grad, too. You are *considered* an elite team when you have made the Final Four, so Mason should be elite. Nike has given Mason the shaft by not giving them their due. I guess only “major” schools (Duke, UNC, Mich. St., Az., etc.) can be elite, cause that’s what makes Nike money. I wish Mason would hurry up and go to adidas already.

The new seating was purchased by the NCAA for use at the Final Four, to maximize attendance and to increase the number of tickets available to the students of the participating schools. Michigan State utilized the seating when they played the game at Ford Field back when the place first opened, and the NCAA liked the idea so much they decided to make the investment themselves. Sorry guys, i was pretty drunk and really stoked that I was first. Now I’m really hungover and regretting a lot of things, not least of which is the fact that I posted something completely useless.

So heres something uni related: yeah, the Celts green and gold is mega sweet, but it will NEVER replace the green and white road unis. Sacrilege.

Notre Dame has had black alternates for a few years now. They’re sort of akin to the green jerseys in football, although I think they’ve been overused this year. But the team does appear to play better in black, with the obvious exception of last night.
I actually like the way the black jerseys look. I’m generally opposed to black for the sake of black (e.g. Detroit Lions), but I actually like the Notre Dame look. I think the whole “black and green” idea does a good job of separating the basketball team from the football team, which kind of has a trademark on blue and gold.

I’m pretty sure Adidas has countered Nike’s SOD line with their own – BAH (Boring As Hell) – worn by Arkansas, Indiana, UCLA, NC State, Arizona State. I also wish Mississippi State would simply go with “State” or “Bulldogs” on their kits. And don’t even get me started on Texas Tech.

I am so sick of this ‘black fad’ (as is everyone on here). As and a Duck fan, I’m thrilled to see them get in the act…16 years after the fad started. But Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame…why?

Not uni related, sorry. But I was curious if anyone knew anything about the 2009 March Madness tickets that are going on sale tomorrow? Everywhere I see says that they’re on sale through ncaa.com, but there is nothing I can find on the site about them (not the Final Four lottery). Thanks for your help.

Notre Dame wore those terrible black jerseys at home in the NIT two years ago. They should wear blue, green, gold (like the Adrian Dantley years), or white; but not black. At least they’re better than the hideous highligher yellow that Digger brought out in ’91 for one game.

And UCLA is not an Adidas thing; they’ve had those uniforms since the Wooden years and they’re the best, period.

Funny, if I had to name my top, say, 15 uni’s in college basketball…all of those schools would probably make the list. :-)

    You’re totally right on that.

I also wish Mississippi State would simply go with “State” or “Bulldogs” on their kits. And don’t even get me started on Texas Tech.
Arizona State is Nike btw

Well if the Old Town Celtics want to make the green-and-gold the road uni, swap the gold with the white and add gold trim to the green letters and numbers on the white unis.

And I think Indiana and UCLA just hold onto tradition with their adidas unis. Arkansas and NC State won championships with the unis they had in ’83 and ’94 respectively, so their coaches went old school to speak.

lol that looks so tacky but those Jordan VIII’s look sick

Please don’t eat me if this has been discussed before, but the football Giants have the least essential game-worn item for sale that I’ve seen yet…
Notre Dame has had black alternates for a few years now. They’re sort of akin to the green jerseys in football, although I think they’ve been overused this year. But the team does appear to play better in black, with the obvious exception of last night.
I actually like the way the black jerseys look. I’m generally opposed to black for the sake of black (e.h. Detroit Lions), but I actually like the Notre Dame look. I think the whole “black and green” idea does a good job of separating the basketball team from the football team, which kind of has a trademark on blue and gold.
Too bad the football teams loves having blue and gold, because the Notre Dame colors apply to everyone, each team. To give up those colors to the football team is slightly… ridiculous. Blue and gold is how ND is known. I might even throw green in. Those are our colors, not just the football team’s.

The team can play pretty well in black, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a questionable addition to the ND color palette. ND should give the green and gold look a shot. Or basically get one standard home and away jersey with a stable color palette… what are those called.. oh yeah, a UNIFORM uniform.
